Our casserole was lovely, but I’m missing Brussel sprouts this winter, apart from the sticks bought at Christmas (why only then?), they’ve been rubbish.

Had a busy day but not really tired, so off to read a book in a min which usually makes me sleepy.Managed to persuade DP to go and have his hair cut this morning, he has a lot of hair which is good, but lets it grow too long, I cut it a few months ago for him but didn’t do a great job especially at the back but fortunately he couldn’t see that!

Ooh, Jax - your comment about Brussels sprouts. I’ve been thinking exactly the same this winter. I’ve been unable to buy any on the stalk, which is always best, and the ones in bags (no loose ones to inspect individually) are small and meh. They look as though they’ve been picked by a machine that isn’t adjusted properly. Humph.

I think there’s been a problem with brassicas this year, due to the weather. The broccoli we’ve had has had massive stalks with small heads and I suspect the same with sprouts. The stems I’ve seen have had small sprouts wide apart on the ‘tree trunk’. According to my farmer Son in law it’s too much rain followed by too low temperatures. Or something. 👀😂

Oooh! I love the name 'brassica'. On the other hand, if I as much as see a sprout, a gale force 9 blows through my stoma.

There hasn't been an update regarding son's partner's surgery. I believe in waiting patiently for news (although it is not in my nature to do so).

‘Evening All’

Gorgeous sunshine today out here but a ‘very blustery day’ as Pooh Bear would say. We didn’t fancy getting blown along the paseo so we just stayed home. Folded back all the bi-fold windows, applied SPF50 to our faces and sunbathed in the warmth of our little balcony.

We don’t even want to go out to eat. Just closed all the windows to keep our little place cosy tonight. Himself has just poured 2 glasses of that cheap plonk (which is delicious 😁) and I will make some pasta with a jar of arrabiata sauce and throw in some chopped franks. My culinary skills are pretty awesome aren’t they? Hehe! Especially if we finish the bottle between us. LLFL I bet you are chuckling at my kitchen prowess. No freezer, no oven, no baking ‘kit’. Just a hob & a microwave. But WINE 🍷 or the tapas bars downstairs.

It’ll do. I’ll wait till it goes dark in a couple of hours time then dish up. We will be more hungry and if it doesn’t touch the sides Himself will be quite satisfied.

Jaxjacky I love Brussels sprouts I bought quite a lot and blanched and froze them ,we are still eating them and they are lovely .Soop the car picture is amazing ,hope your sons partner is ok sounds painful.Urms foyer looks very clean and welcoming .Oh ,Dd,Gd and myself have been playing Uno we have had a good laugh ,Gs was across road playing with a bit he played with at nursery they get on really well for 5yr olds !! Having Chinese now so will say goodnight.

Just popping into the kitchen to say hello and catch up on news. There’s not much been happening here today, I didn’t go out either Urms but no sunshine and balcony here to enjoy. I have got some wine though so I’m not complaining!

Good evening Kitcheners. I'm popping in to say hi. I had a lovely lunch with dd and dgs1. He behaved so well and ate quite a lot. His appetite is iffy at times. It was lovely to spend time with them. I've done all the housework and washing and just have a little ironing to do tomorrow. It's raining here now which pleases me as it'll get rid of any remaining snow and ice. Urms a nice easy dinner for you. Brook and Urms enjoy the wine.

A quiet day, quick walk along the frosty ground, then immersed in the paper. It’s Finley’s birthday tomorrow, 10, so present wrapping tomorrow, before they call in. Our friends are off to Malta tomorrow for 7 weeks, a good plan, balmier and cheaper, no heating bills.

We’ve had a nice relaxing evening. Bowls of pasta whilst sat on the sofa watching a DVD ‘Shawshank Redemption’ - one of our all time favourites. Must be years since we last saw it. Almost forgotten how good it was.

I used to teach Shawshank Urms. It's a fabulous film. I am having cravings for pickled silverskin onions. Just as well I know I'm not pregnant! I've had four oatcakes with strong cheddar and a wee dish of pickled onions to go alongside. Delicious. I'm off to bed soon. Have a good night all.

Unfortunately I have become hooked on the Inspector Gamache novels of Louise Penny. And I do mean hooked.
I have not watched TV for at least 4 days and am spending every spare moment on my Kindle. I read a whole book today (15 in the series) so you can tell I did little else.
I’m trying to resist downloading the next one before I go to bed tonight - in case I weaken and start reading!
Does anybody else know these? The characters are wonderfully drawn and have become like a second family - know the feeling? I hope today has passed without trauma for you all and I am impressed with the baking going on. I dare not - I’ll just eat it but I can dream.

Jaxjacksy I got some of mine on the local market and found some in local Aldi ,I'm rubbish at gardening let us know if you manage to grow some . We are having sprouts with beef tomorrow .

Before Christmas DP bought some sprouts from Tesco in a plastic bag, well they were awful and I ended up chucking them out, small, dirty looking and woeful generally.I then went to the garden centre and bought the sprouts on their stalk and they were great, and still fine to use now, I left them outside in the porch.A friend told me recently the sprout soup is really nice, so may have a go at making that.
Saw The Shawshank Redemption a few years ago, it is good but also hard to watch at times, think it’s a Stephen King?

Hello everyone. It is OH’s birthday today. A fairly quiet day. I drove us to a nearby favourite hostelry for dinner. They do the best steak. OH had a 12 oz rib eye while I had a rather smaller 8 oz fillet. Cooked to a perfect pink. The drive over was horrendous! Thick fog and ice. Every now and again OH shrieked that I was on the wrong side of the road. Narrow country lanes with hedges and ditches on either side. We made it there and back.

Oreo no heartburn at all! 😄

Lucky you 😃 I like those little onions but couldn’t eat them late in the day.
Gorgeous morning here, really really cold but blue sky and frost covered trees, me and DP had an early walk today and both of us came back with red noses even tho we were wrapped up well.Can’t someone who can knit invent little nose warmers?😁
