At this time of the year ... anyone else fancying a glass of sherry before dinner?

Cheers 🥂, I like a sherry this time of year. Must admit I can’t tell the difference between all these fancy Gins. It’s Aldi’s own make for me, mostly summertime though.

Just had a sherry (fino) to help me write our Christmas cards. It’s a tradition (my excuse).

I'm already halfway down my first Christmas bottle of Crofts, which gets opened on 1st December.

For those of you who prefer a sweeter sherry try Pedro Ximenez - it's the one used by Nigella in her Christmas pudding recipes and is absolutely glorious. I can only manage a sip or two - I keep intending to try it over ice cream but haven't yet done so.

When I was at college we used to buy draught sherry from an off licence , it was very cheap, very potent, and very disgusting.
Can’t really face it now.

My mother was very keen on Croft Original - I thought it was sweetish, though - she didn’t like anything dry.

Once her dementia was more advanced, my brother used to buy it for her - and water it down a bit before he gave it to her - she was knocking back loads of it!

Always used to have a glass of sherry with my mum while helping her make Sunday lunch. Must have been when I was teenager. Whilst I now prefer a g&t or glass of something sparkly as an aperitif somehow in winter we always get a bottle of sherry in. I like it best before Sunday dinner (eaten in evening nowadays). Amontillado is my favourite. People can be a bit dismissive of sherry but give it a chance I say 😀

I enjoy a Croft Original dry sherry as an aperitif. Look at me, all Agatha Christie! My favourite drink at the moment is whiskey (Jameson's) and green ginger. Or a Bloody Mary. Tonight will be a gin though.

Ah, sherry - don't come across it these days. I'm taken back to the '70s and Berni Inns. Prawn cocktail, steak and chips, Black Forest gateau and a schooner of sherry. Lethal stuff if you have too much, I discovered! 🤢

Well, we were out for lunch today Urmstongran so I had a spritzer.
Then someone bought a bottle of Sauv Blanc ....... 😀

As I recall, sherry is hangover inducing.

Martin Miller gin, £28, often on offer £22, £23 in Waitrose atm. Made with water from Iceland. I never said that it wasn’t pretentious. Served with Fevertree tonic, twist of lime, small icecubes, delicious !

Try a manzanilla M0nica. Tastes of the sea 🙂

We did a tour of one of the sherry bodegas in Jerez. Tio Pepe maybe? There was a wine tasting at the end and nobody fancied the "real" sherry, they all preferred the Bristol Cream. So DH and I had their shares of PX and Palo Cortado.

Now that was a night... 🤣

The servings were very generous so it was lucky we weren't driving.

G&T in summer, but I do I like an Amontillado in winter, especially around Christmas time.,
Treated myself last week to a bottle from Waitrose, now in the ship’s decanter that belonged to my father. He was strictly a Fino type though.
I will have one while cooking the dinner shortly , - cheers in advance. 🍷🎄
