At this time of the year ... anyone else fancying a glass of sherry before dinner?

Urmstongran, great idea. I normally only bother with sherry at Christmas. Both my mother and MIL liked one. My mother would declare that it was sherry time, a phrase my sisters and I still use. Sometimes I will Alexa my sisters while we enjoy a sherry time glass or two. I still have the schooner glasses my MIL had. I must dust them off this year. Cheers, Ladies.

I never did like sherry or port. It's always a glass of cider or perry for me as an aperitif.

Cheers Urms, since the darker evening arrived I’ve been fancying a glass of something about 5 o’clock. Diving into the wine at that time seemed a bit decadent somehow but a glass of sherry sounds so civilised and ladylike. I’ve checked in the fridge and we have the remains of a bottle of Fonseca Elegante described as a medium dry. There might be enough to have a glass while doing the dreaded writing of the Christmas cards.
Sorry to the lady who suggested it as I daren’t scroll back to remember your name but that was the best incentive to get on with them that I’ve read.

For those who don’t know (yet might just be slightly interested) Bevano Lounge in Urmston is a nod to Aneurin ‘Nye’ Bevan. He opened the first NHS hospital here in Urmston (it was called Park Hospital then back in the day in 1946).

I love the fact the hospital Board still don’t charge for parking in the big car park for patients.

I won a bottle of PX at our U3A wine and sherry tasting morning last month. I normally go for really dry sherries but DD and DSiL helped me polish it off last Saturday during our pre Christmas Bake Off!

We always had sherry on for my Nan. Sherry didn’t count as a drink. Now I’ve just taken advantage of Sainsbury’s offers for gin and Baileys. Finished the last bottle last spring.

If Himself doesn’t arrive in 5 minutes I’ll have to go back up and bung the chicken thighs in the oven, next to the jacket potatoes that are already in there, otherwise they’ll be overdone. Shame really, I’m enjoying this little get together.

If he arrives, I’ll buy us both a drink and ask him to go up and pop the chicken in. It’s prepped ready.
