Hate baclava. It’s so sweet and they never make it with lots of syrup. Always dried out and hard. My husband just came back from visiting his sisters in Turkey and brought back loads of it for his colleagues. Give me a curry instead please. His sisters are not Turkish. Just saying.

I work in retail and it’s my job to help you find stuff. “End of” as a previous manager of mine would say.
It’s astonishing how few younger people realise this. If customers don’t get helped, to spend, staff will all be replaced by self service checkouts!
We’re there to help you, ask us. ( remind us)

At least that's a reasonable mistake, I suppose.

I once made my DH a list for the old fashioned greengrocer shop. It said amongst other things 3 pears but was interpreted as 3 lbs of fresh peas!

My husband was asked to get milk and yogurt yesterday. I came home to no shopping done, but great progress with the jigsaw!

I tell mine "no substitutions" like a Sainsburys order.

My friend's DH was sent to the village for milk for the children's cereal. He came back with orange juice...

Open invitation to all those who like Bacalava - a box is begging for attention. I was given it today - I just don’t like it😫

In the ‘70s I asked DH to buy a couple of parsnips. He came back with 2 ‘things’ called mouli - giant white vegetables, each over a foot long that cost the entire week’s vegetable budget!
I very rarely ever asked him to shop for anything again, but once bed-bound, I asked if he’d get me a vegetarian ready meal and he came back with a pack of mashed potato. Lesson learned!

My dh once bought pork mince instead of beef. (‘I thought it was beef,’ he said, all injured.

And another time, a pork joint instead of gammon. Similar response when I asked if he was actually able to read labels.

And years ago now, he came back from a huge Asda saying they had no loo cleaner. No, none at all! Yes, of course he did look properly!

It’s not ‘learned helplessness’ - he actually likes shopping, (especially if it means raiding M&S) but I’m happy to say that a man with several letters after his name has now actually learned to read labels - properly! - and to ask staff when he can’t find something.

At least you and I are on the same wavelength - I am visiting D, SIL and the children today with the intention of watching Strictly together this evening and I have just popped to the village shop hoping for Lindor or similar -and came away with a box of “Heroes”

Well it’s not his thing, I know. Not even hisfamily. 😬

Never mind. We’ll stop off a Lidl on the way.

this is called learned helplessness a ploy as old as Methusaleh, so that you will not ask him again, but rollyour eyes and do it yourself.
A get out clause of ‘something like that’ translated to “baklava!’
giving him an opportunity to express his own preference. Did he buy only one pack?
You tube vid Jeanne Robertson, entitled. “Don’t send a man to the grocery store” - this is how it is perceived - that you are ‘sending them’ be this conscious or otherwise.
What he is possibly conveying is his lack of interest in the planned evening.
