You do realise that’s why supermarkets marked down the prices of QS …Roses….Celebrations….Heroes , at this time of year. It’s so you buy them at a slightly cheaper price….they know you’re going to eat them before Xmas ….then they also know you’re not gonna buy the replacement tin til just before Xmas starts…( thus avoiding temptation again) and the price goes back to its normal position!
Ergo…. they’ve sold you two tins instead of one! 20 years in retail never been wasted….I know all the wrinkles !!! Luckily I’m the only person on earth who hates chocolate !

I only crave chocolate at odd times. I think I’ve pigged out so much in the past that I no longer want them. I only like Thornton’s anyway and that’s partly because they still make coffee creams. I adore coffee flavour chocs but it’s really hard to find them nowadays.

I can keep a tub or box of chocolates for ages, UNTIL the seal or wrappings are open then it's game on! Once open, I see it as a mission to finish the sweets as soon as possible. I have zero willpower.

Believe me, the only way to stop eating sweets, cakes, biscuits, etc. is to not buy them. I often buy a block of chocolate "just in case" I'm climbing the walls but I always end up pigging out. Try to find something else you can nibble on, like strips of red/yellow pepper, cherry tomatoes. I quite like thinly shredded iceberg lettuce with a smidgin of salad cream on.

I am upset about the Celebrations tins may not having the Bounties in. I think they are trialling them to see what the reaction is.

Self confessed alcoholic, I have a Christmas cupboard with a higher shelf that my poor arthritic shoulders can't reach properly and I stash the goodies there . Mostly it works 😂😂 when kids were little my personal stash was back of the salad draw

Also, I can always stop after two or three chocolates. I just know I've had enough. I might go back for more in a few hours, but I don't stuff with them. And you know why I think that is? My mother - bless her - never made me eat what I didn't want. So I have good contact with what my body really needs - my theory, anyway. And I've never had a weight problem.

The chocolate cravings bypassed me! I have no desire for chocolate at all and am not tempted by it in the shops. I buy it for DH, who LOVES it. I don’t know anyone else who feels like this. There might be a genetic link? My parents didn’t buy it either🤷🏻‍♀️

My husband and second son don’t really like chocolate. I remember when my son was around eight discovering one of his Easter eggs on Church Eve and it was completely unopened. I broke it up and shared it among the family that wanted it. The rest of us enjoy chocolate but I don’t really like Quality Street - I don’t get the hype around it. I would much rather have Roses. I am pleased that Bounty are being removed from some boxes of Celebrations and wish they would go one step further and get rid of the Snickers. At their last lesson before Christmas, I give each pupil a card and offer them two sweets from a tub of Heroes - l find this selection is possibly the best all-round and least exotic. Of course, parents and any younger children who might come along are also offered two sweets from the tub. One year, a seven-year-old pupil told me that one of his friends was allergic to chocolate. The expression on his face showed that he thought that was a poor do. His five-year-old brother was not to be outdone. He informed us that his friend was allergic to kissing!

Honestly, the remedy is dark chocolate of the 70% cocoa solids kind. It's good for you and a couple of squares cure the cravings (no-one should have to live without chocolate!)

Treetops. An interesting theory but he knows I don’t like QS or the cheapie chocolate in those Easter eggs for hunting. But he will eat both to excess and then complain when his teeth give problems 😝

The only way for me is not have them in the house. My better half keep saying "You're on a diet!" depsite my BMI being less than 25. I love biscuits, sweets and other things that are bad for me.

Well, hearing that the Bounty sweets are being excluded is not good news. I like those, no one else does so it meant I had plenty of sweets to eat. It seems no longer.....
To return to the original thread, I'm pretty good at not opening a tin of Roses, Quality Street etc, but once someone else has opened them, then a magnetic attraction seems to keep drawing me over to the tin.

I used to buy selection boxes etc for my kiddies for Christmas, and then ended up eating them, and buying more etc., so I know how you feel.

It sounds to me like he wanted you to open them...so he could eat them too ;)

Not me but DH. Bought 2 plastic boxes of Quality Street, gave out one at Halloween and then discovered he’d eaten the entire second box and hidden it under the first. Not quite as bad as going to do Easter egg hunt for excited GS. and finding the chocoholic had eaten all the eggs, leaving empty box to fool me 🤬

It’s either Lindor truffle balls or Hotel Chocolat for me. I do agree, the quality and size of both Roses and QS has deteriorated over the years. Oh dear…

I don't buy them because I know I will eat them. I go around supermarkets persuading myself to not buy because I know I will make myself feel sick by eating them

It’s reassuring to hear so many are drawn to the chocolate boxes. Not just me then.
I’m intrigued to read so many can just not buy them. Wish I had that discipline.
