My heart goes out to them both. They have taken on a huge responsibility at an age when most of us are retired. No wonder they look done in. There will be no let up at least until after the funeral, and even then it's a never ending task.

I think he wanted her as much as she wanted him. They belong together, and I wish them much happiness, when this sad period is over.

I am going to be the Devil's advocate where Camilla is concerned, and say what others do not think, or want to say."Be careful what you wish for."
She's wanted Charles for years, she's got him with all the commitments he has been trained for since birth. '
At 74 I would not like to be in her shoes she looks extremely tired, ill at ease and at times looks as if she is a million miles away. Even DH remarked how she plonked gratefully into a chair somewhere yesterday and he's the last one to comment on anything like that.
Camilla got her man and title but did she truly want all it has brought?

It must be tremendously tiring for all the main players. I wish it was not necessary for them to shake so many hands, and look at so many flowers.

barmeyoldbat - my thoughts are with you. Any death of a close family member is hard, but the death of a child has a sense in unrealism. Nobody expects to outlive their children.
I do hope that you have friends and family around you. When my youngest died, suddenly at the age of 25 years, I just wanted to talk endlessly about to him to anyone an d everyone.

You will need a good two years mourning to recover - a day and stage at the time. It is - for me- twenty years ago - but still miss him. Yes, I mourned my parents when they died in their 80's and my brother in his 70's, but they were 'sad' times, not the tragedy of a young adult.

I think if they can get through the next week, things will settle down and a new sort of routine will emerge for C&C.

Don’t suppose they will be able to spend so much time at Highgrove in the future.

Sue and Barmey,thinking of you both?. It is very exhausting when you lose a loved one and for the Royal family it must be so hard being in the public eye and not being able to have a hug and a cry . Camilla looks like a strong woman and no doubt will be a good support for King Charles- no wonder she looks tired because her life has been turned upside down.

Although she obviously loves Charles, I think she is at heart, a reluctant Queen Consort, rather like the Wallis Simpson situation (though so different in many ways of course), when events piled up to an overwhelming degree and there was no way round it.
The people who say online that she is rubbing her hands with glee as she has finally got what she wants I believe are very mistaken.
It will be interesting to see how she fares.

In my late 70s I am still running a business but thats my choice to be self employed.

No way would I want a role like that of Charles and Camilla thrust upon me at this age. Nor at any age.

She does look knackered.

I think she hasn't physically aged well - many women in their mid-70s look active and sprightly, whereas Camilla looks to be plodding along and like she'd rather be somewhere else.

But she's gonna have to get on with it!

I don't agree she isnt ageing well and just a few weeks back I thought she looked quite lovely.
Surely this is fatigue stress, sorrow plus being on "show' just about 24/7
They're both my age- just about - and I know how ONE stressful day (or a trip to London!) leaves me bushed. I do worry about the present unremitting strain on them all.

Our new king looks absolutely shattered too.
I hope they will take a well deserved holiday very soon to rest and relax.
What a schedule they’re having to follow. I too think Camilla looks weary. Poor ol’ thing.

Walking in cobbles is even harder.

Some people just don't look good in black, my mother didn't. If she wore it to funerals she always joked she looked as if she'd died.

That was a heck of a walk this afternoon behind their mother`s coffin. I know it was only a mile, but in your 70s? Up and downhill as well. Towards the end, I thought that Charles looked to be struggling, I`ll bet they were all glad to see the cathedral entrance!

After the vigil maybe a G&T? Hope they get a good night's sleep.

I think Camilla was probably running on adrenaline for the first couple of days, and now she is exhausted. Having the eyes of the world upon her at a time of mourning must be very difficult.
