My mum was diagnosed with a terminal condition and the hospital staff strongly advised hospice care for the last weeks of her life as did extended family.
I refused and brought her back home with me ( I would add that she didn't require pain medication).
I cared for her over the space of nine months until she died in my arms at the age of 48 while I held her in my arms.
Those months were filled with love, laughter and nothing was left unsaid between us, that's comforted me in the years since.
For both of us, it was the best decision.
