Adverts for Viagra

There's a an advert for a contraceptive pill that you can get over the counter, but I've only seen it advertised way later on in the evening. They must need to get in early with the ad as all the men I know doze off by 8pm in front of the telly and they'd miss it.

The 'lessons for life' are inappropriate as well if you ask me- especially if they cover that stuff- the kids just all find it embarressing- what they really need is the physiological stuff covering in biology lessons- then in 'lessons for life' real stuff they will need in life- like money managing, budgeting, basic cooking etc- with a smattering of contraception sense thrown in then!- all stuff they need at Uni or their first go at living- standing on their own two feet- they are the 'Lessons for life' that they need!

‘A sex enhancement product’? Erectile dysfunction is a recognised medical condition caused by all sorts of problems, as well as simply ageing. Perhaps you are confusing it with the Love Honey ads which I find hilarious! If malfunctioning female bladders are an acceptable medical condition which it is ok to advertise before the so called watershed, then surely so is a dysfunctional male member. It has an added bonus in that it might be acceptable to more than just the person at which it is aimed!

Who are these women who are constantly peeing their pants? I find it SO embarrassing and demeaning to women when those adverts come on. And where are the adverts for leaky old blokes?
I'm 75 and the last time I peed my pants was 72 years ago!

Yes i agree a later time would be better- my GD mentioned it and said its for erectile dysfunction when i was there and was finding it laughable (she's 14 so has obviously learned what that means in the school 'lessons for life') But I'm her nan but imagine how poor grandfathers must feel if the grand kids are doing same when they are in the room!

I honestly do not think it should be legal to advertise any form of medicine whether pharmaceutically approved or alternative medicine.

Anyone needing Viagra would be well advised to start by going to his doctor - no-one else can judge whether it is advisable or not.

Standards vary so much these days, that it must be hard to legistrate on public decency.

I have seen advertisments for products such as contraceptives, medicaments for prostrate trouble, sanitary protection, sun creme or bathing suits that I found distasteful.

Others may well not find any of the above embarrassing, so it is a difficult thing to judge.

It should be possible to make an advert that conveys the message to the age group most likely to neeed Viagra, which a small child wouldn't fathom and with some form of visual content that is unobjectionable.

Might get a stiff sentence…

Maybe instead of the graphic ads which often make us want to hide, switch off or choke on our coffee, information could be delivered on tv in the style of a party political broadcast.... children wouldn't be attracted in the least and a lot of the rest of us would get up and boil the kettle or visit the toilet!

Originally, Viagra was intended as an angina medicine

It would be a bit daft in my job (as was) to be squeamish around body functions.
Explaining erectile dysfunction to a child though, is a bit too far for me.

I would hope not. Gone thankfully are the days when 'bodily functions' were seen as ' no go areas for discussion.

I've no problem with any bodily function.

Good feature on the Wimbledon programme yesterday about the white dress rule that looked at how that could feel uncomfortable for a woman player who was having her period. It was good to see this discussed in a simple, factual and open way.

I have no problem with inco-pads adverts. Better that children grow up understanding that this is something that can happen. I am never coy about mine with the GC - they are to catch drips!

I quite like the one with the chain saw that won’t start etc.

.... on the other hand, I do feel things are becoming far too graphic in adverts these days - do they think we are all thick and need it all spelled out to us? Have you seen that ad for pads, I think, where the woman is sitting pant-less on the loo? And those that show us a close-up of a woman's bottom (in leggings) to demonstrate that the pads don't show??? Can we not understand them when they just say the pads don't show??! However, I love that fast-moving ad for ED which give loads of names that people use for the male organ!!! The first time I saw it, I choked on my coffee with laughter!!

I don't know how I know this but you have to fill in a form to get over the counter Viagra or you used to have to. There is a limit to how many a pharmacy will sell you before they say no, go to your GP. Women apparently use it too

I don't think there's a problem with explaining to a questioning youngster that sometimes when consenting adults have sex for enjoyment, they sometimes need a little help. It's never ceased to amaze me over the years, how many of my friends are very uncomfortable with their children knowing anything about loving, consenting, adult sex (obviously we're not talking about non-consenting or hard porn here!!) and won't let their child watch a film if it has a basic love scene in it, yet they're happy to let them play violent video games from a very young age!!!

I can see from a previous post that this refers to ITV which is presumably covered in the UK by some kind of advertising standards. I think though that with many more channels broadcasting around the clock the " watershed" might need to be reviewed as it could be really difficult to maintain. Its not just adverts that mention these products though, not so long ago I had my young teenage nephews, brother, husband and two male neighbours around to watch sport on the tv. At half time they all came through into the kitchen for snacks. I had the tv on but wasn't paying much attention to the American hospital drama that was on until I heard someone on the tv mention that the patient was hospitalised because they had overdosed on " ED" medication. I hadn't heard this expression before then and stupidly asked the whole room if anyone knew what this was.......you could have heard a pin drop and everyone suddenly needed to be back in the other room to watch the second half of the game. I looked it up and was mortified. But if I had seen the adverts sooner I would have known and so it's probably better to be educated rather than ignorant.

There must be a fortune to be made out of womens pads the amount spent on advertising and you’d think all us were incontinent.
