I have opened my home to people in the past , but I now live with my father in a house , which is uncomfortably small so this girl didn't live with us .
Being extremely anti social and naturally embarrassed about his incontinence he would not have liked it anyway .
It was a weekly handout of money , food clothes etc .
I also tried to find work for her .
I had lots of opportunities lined up for her .
But basically she just wants huge gifts and is never satisfied .
I've tried and failed .
Never mind .

Anyone else get the feeling the west is giving up on Ukraine ?
(75 Posts)I’m getting the feeling that the west / nato is now losing the sense of urgency to help Ukraine win the war., I wonder if it’s because they have at this stage, calculated that unless we actually joined the fighting ( which we won’t do) , that it is highly likely that Russia is going to win.
I really hope we haven’t given up. I feel like screaming at the TV when I hear Ukraine’s leaders desperately asking for more weapons. Although we hear we are sending more, it now seems to me, slow to respond and with less sense of determination.
Am I just feeling gloomy ?
Well said Monica
First they came for the Communists (Ukraine)
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist (Ukrainian)
Then they came for the Socialists (Moldova)
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist (Moldovan)
Then they came for the trade unionists (the Baltic states
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist (Estonian, latvian or Lithuanian)
Then they came for the Jews (Finland)
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew (Finnish)
Then they came for me (Western Europe)
And there was no one left
To speak out for me (us)
Do you think Putin will stop with Ukraine if the Europeans and Americans just shrug and say 'sauve qui peut'
Moldavia will probably follow, then Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Finland, even. Whyd do you think those two neutral companies, Finland and Sweden have come off thefence and joined NATO after 75 years of non-a;ignment?

Henetha , the British press are not fond of promoting anything
European, because you don't read about Europes' involvement
doesn't mean there isn't any. Mr Johnson kept visiting Ukraine
hence the constant headlines.Should we send Truss to Ukraine?.
If we want Armageddon. She was willing to face Putin she said that when running for P.M.maybe he will fall for her "Charms"

Put a asterisk before and after the wanted highlighted word, no gaps.

How doc you come to have a Romanian family in your home ?
Channel 4 news is still covering this news.
@Esmay (how do I highlight names, please?)
Why do you have a Romanian girl staying with you? Especially after a year?
Is there no one else to teach this girl that you are not her money bags?
The blimmin nerve of some people!!!
Im acutely disappointed with her. My friends all think that I'm far too trusting of people
I was once foolish enough to help an elderly neighbour fill out a DLA form and before long I had been co-opted into the role of being her PA. I was doing her shopping (no car) making all her phone calls, sorting her benefit and lots of other time consuming tasks all on top of a high powered full time job and my own diminishing mobility issues.
Now I deliberately prectice the art of "not getting involved". No good deed goes unpunished.
Im acutely disappointed with her.
My friends all think that I'm far too trusting of people .
One of them , warned me.
She was right .
This girl asked me to give her some paid work - but she didn't want to do it .
A fortnight ago , she had a mood with me over her daughter's birthday celebrations .
And last week , she walked out of the cafe after she'd eaten .
No doubt she'll be back .
It's not the first time that it's happened to me -but now I've got tired of it .
Having written that I'm helping a man ,
who is a homeless alcoholic .
I don't expect grovelling thanks just politeness .
I've asked the supermarket -near where he sits to help him too .
And they are .

I think things are being done under the radar so to speak, and we are being kept in the dark.
Not a bad thing if i am right tbh.
I agree.

Nothing remains frontline news for very long.
Something else overtakes it.
It would if we thought Putin might push on through Europe just like Stalin did near the end of WW2. Churchill's "Iron Curtain."
We are complacent and starting to ignore the threat that it poses to us all, economics comes into it too.
If the Americans put Trump back in at the next Presidential election where will we be then?Thank goodness for Biden.
Her requests for expensive meals out and costly gifts have become too much .
I'm shocked that she would do this. I think I would be fed up too.
Just read the Op's post and she says - the West .
I've written gransnet ,but my feeling is the same .
We all have increasing problems and struggle financially and that becomes a priority.
I believe that all of us care very deeply about Ukraine and other countries - the plight of women in Iran is the latest , but most of us on gransnet have reached a certain age with limited funds and are really struggling with the huge increases in the cost of living - and that eclipses our concerns about other people .
Nothing selfish in that .
It's called survival .
I've done a lot of charity work for about 30 years .
Recently , I've got fed up with the Roumanian girl that I've been helping for a year with money , food and clothing .
Her requests for expensive meals out and costly gifts have become too much .

Well, the magic money tree is thriving when it comes to sending weapons to Ukraine. Incredible amounts of money being paid to armament manufacturers for these.
I never could understand the tears and waving of flags to show support for Ukraine, whereas so many wars that have been and are still being wages are just ignored. Dreadful the bombing of Ukraine cities, equally dreadful the bombing of cities in Syria, Iran, Iraq etc. etc.
Ah but Ukraine is part of Europe and the people look like us. That’s the difference.

The time has come to look after out own economy. Cut ALL overseas aid including Ukraine. Cancel the coronation and have a quick and cheap Skandi style inauguration without all the religious mumbo jumbo, I despair at the huge amount that was wasted on the circus of the late queens funeral.

Putin is angry that the USSR is no longer the world power that it was. We lived in fear of nuclear war through the 50 s 60 s and even 70 s and that was when Russia still had all those other countries under its rule. Now independent nations which do not want to go backwards and want to keep the freedoms of western way of life.
We just move on, until it comes for us.
That’s just how it is.^
I get what you're saying, but isn't it a sad world if we live like this.
How can Russia have the nerve to be angry because Ukraine dared to fight back?
I don't really know anything about how countries are responding/helping, but they haven't stopped Kyiv being bombarded. How long are the people of Ukraine meant to live like this?
Surely Putin wouldn't risk using nuclear weapons.

The Ukraine war is on the French tv every day
It is on U.K. TV and radio news everyday as well.
The Ukraine war is on the French tv every day
As has been said British press don’t report much on Europe and given most of Europe is closer to Russia than we are they will be equally involved in giving support to ?? Ukraine.
GrannySeaside51
I like to believe the West is still doing their best to assist Ukraine. I do wonder if they are playing down announcing how much help they are providing so as to not play into Putin’s anti-West war cries. I feel so angry that Russias response to a bridge being blown up they bombard cities in Ukraine with missile attacks against civilians. ?
I agree with you.
Governments in the West are not forgetting Ukraine, even if some of the population in those countries are, although I do get the impression that most people, at least here in the UK are very much behind the Ukrainians with their support.
The rest of Europe cannot possibly look the other way in this matter.

Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq, Iran so many places, at one time always in the news, now almost forgotten, yet their tragedy still plays out and their people live in fear.
We just move on, until it comes for us.

I have never quite got over growing up in fear of (once powerful) Russia.
