Pillows...

I have awful trouble getting pillows that suit me, right now I have firm fill down pillows and have two on my bed. They cost a mint btw. The one at the back I tucked into a wool pillow cover from the woolroom and I have the softer down one at the front, a slope of sorts. I already notice the down one losing its springiness, from john lewis and cost an arm and a leg

I am ok right now as a side sleeper but all pillows lost teir oomph over time. Do the pillow test, balance a pillow over your forearm, it should be quite straight, if it bends down then the support factor is gone and dust mites have taken over

Fernhillnana - I agree completely. Everyone should be aware of the terrible suffering these poor creatures have to endure & really, it’s totally unnecessary.

Good feather not food feather pillows, and in fact they were a mixture of feather and down.

I've always bought food feather pillows and had 4 or 6 on the bed plus a couple of orthopaedic 'V' pillows.
About 18 months ago I saw the 'GX' pillows being advertised on Ideal World. They are normally about £60 each but I got 2 for that and OMG! the feather pillows were relegated to the spare bed, we no longer need 2 or 3 pillows each, one of these is fantastic, it doesn't matter how you sleep, these are the most comfortable pillows I've ever seen.
I've suffered with terrible sleep for decades and tried everything until I moved to farther pillows which helped some but the 'GX' has made an enormous difference.
We've still got the 'V' pillows for when skittering up reading our watching TV but for sleeping, the 'GX' is perfect.

Tilly8 I’ve been having exactly the same problem!
I’ve tried having the window open in my bedroom during the day thinking maybe the room needs fresh air- but it’s made no difference!
I did wonder whether the pillow contents start to chemically change after a while, but new pillows don’t seem to make any difference either.
My next solution is to try a contour pillow.
I have noticed though that if I’ve been lifting something heavy I get a terrible headache the next day.

Have you tried using ibuprofen gel at the base of your neck? (Assuming that you are able to use ibuprofen and aren't allergic)

For months now I keep waking up with headache (probably twice per week). I’ve tried different pillows but nothing helps. The strange thing is as soon as I get up and start my day the headache goes away. I do have disc problems in my neck. Can anyone relate please?

DH & I both use contoured pillows from IKEA. Had them for years and they're still going strong - as are we!

I now buy all our pillows from Premier Inn. Never had one neck ache or uncomfortable night on them. Available through the Premier Inn web site. We buy their Hypnos beds too.

We have wool filled pillows, latest ones from a company called Baavet (we also have wool duvets and underlay). All items are cool in summer and warm in winter. The pillows are great, they 'plump' up beautifully and if they are too firm you can remove some of the woolly ball stuffing or add more if you want a firmer pillow. I have a shoulder/neck injury and I have struggled for years to find a comfortable pillow. I saw these advertised in a newspaper and thought I would give them a try and they are honestly the best pillows I have ever used. You might want to look at how your feathers are obtained from the living animals before you buy another one. There are videos on YouTube.

I bought some from King of Cotton six months ago, they're firmish but soft too! They were called Premier Microfibre/Cotton Down Feel Pillow SKU: PILMFF
They're quite thick so one pillow is enough for me. I get hot at night but these don't seem to heat up and I use them in preference to my expensive extra-stuffed down pillows now.
Not the cheapest pillow I've bought but this company often have special offers if you sign up for email newsletters.

Missdeke the Deluxe pillow is the one with the zip so you can open the cover, fluff up the wool balls and adjust the volume if necessary. It's also washable but read the instructions on the description.
The Classic pillow has no zip and is dry clean only.

We have the Deluxe. They're on offer at the moment but there are sales and offers quite regularly.

I've been using dunlopillo latex pillows since the 60s when given them as a wedding present. Obviously had replacements over the years. DH was complaining about his neck and searched for recommendations. Found a Dunelm wool filled one. Initially okay but six months in the usual problem of sagging in the middle. Back on the latex pillow.

I don’t normally buy things advertised on Facebook but I took a chance on Sleepeasy and have not regretted it. Cost about £29, it’s contoured and claims to keep your body in alignment, whether you are a side or back sleeper. I don’t know whether that is true or not but I do know that the pains in my head and neck have not recurred since I’ve been using it.

mummer, me too. Mine are uk goose down. I have not had neck ache since using them.

I did buy woolroom pillows, I have their mattress covers and duvets but I never did get on with the pillows. They are filled with small blobs of wool, smell like sheep, which I am used to as I am a spinner but they also flatten during the night.

The down ones are far the best after a lifetime of searching for a good pillow. I cringed at the cost tbh but now have more than one so am good for a long time ahead. So much down in one pillow, I only need one under my head as a side sleeper

Always spend as absolute much as you can afford on decent pillows. We have 100% Hungarian goose down that are
Akin to resting one's head on a fluffy cloud in fluffy town, on fluffy planet!!! You can squish them to support you however you sleep and they never ever ever go out of shape or prick you with quills as they're made from down not with cheap and nasty feathers! DH has allergies to feather so it's a must, and they can be washed in laundromats big machines too! You must invest to save your necks!
