Like others, I can appreciate that the whole idea of monarchy can seem ridiculous in this age, BUT (like others here) I've thought about what would replace it - when Trump was US President I was very glad we had a monarchy instead. Would I want Boris as our elected president (he's embarrassing enough as PM). What I appreciate about our monarchy is the steadiness and sense of continuance it gives to our country, especially when everything-else is in flux. AND I like the fact that the monarch is always someone who was born into the RF and learned "on the job" from the previous monarch. We don't have some novice every 4 years, we have someone who saw their parent doing the job, probably for decades and understand very well what it entails and how to do it. If they don't want to do it, then abdication is always an option - so no-one is forced into the job. Personally, I hope that Monarchy survives well past my lifetime - I think that Charles and William will be fine as monarchs, and then the ones that follow can decide whether or not they want the job! As others have said, we have to be careful to consider what the alternative will be and well may not realise what we have until its gone.
