Nostalgia for Childhood comics.

I remember Sunny Stories. Was that an Enid Blyton magazine?
The boy next door used to get a comic called Radio Fun, which he passed on to me. That would have been around 1950 I think. TV in the home was very uncommon then.

I've just googled and can't find the Robin comic I remember. I'm not talking about Batman's sidekick. The Robin I remember was for very small children.

The first comic we had was Robin, then Dandy and Beano, followed by Bunty then Jackie. Nobody else has mentioned Robin, have I imagined it?

Great to find so many Bunty fans. I have always loved cut-dolls to dress.

I have a question for you. One of the characters in Bunty was a a teenaged who was very fashionably. One story that stuck in my mind was when she faced many hair-raising activities on a walk. She calmly dealt with each but suddenly ran home screaming. The reason was that she had discovered the seams or her nylons were not straight.

Not being fashioned myself, I did not understand the story, but it has stayed in my mind for 60 odd years. So who was she.?

Bunty - I loved The Four Mary's - Mary Field, Mary Radleigh, Mary Simpson and Mary Cotter. I can see them now.
Those cut out dolls and clothes on the back page.
My brother's had The Beezer, Dandy Topper and Beano. I can remember lots of characters from those too! We all had Annuals at Christmas.

I used to have a comic called Princess Tina, delivered every week, my sister got Twinkle. At Christmas I got Bunty or Diana annuals & still have a Diana annual from 1969. I moved on to Jackie in the early 70’s, buying it on the way home from school. We used to love the Dear Doctor column and pop posters.

When I left home my mum got rid of all of my dolls, teddies and books. I’ve managed to find some through book searches though. And now eBay of course. I loved film annuals too.

Kim19 I'm pleased you mention 'Sunny Stories' as it's what I had when I was very young. Now none of my friends have heard of it, so I was beginning to question if maybe I was imagining it.

I wasn't allowed a comic! I had to have Look and Learn. I was so envious of friends with Bunty, Judy and the Beano etc.

A few years ago DH bought me some original Twinkle comics for my birthday. I have them still.

Bunty for me, Judy for my Sis, Valiant for our baby Brother. I remember winning a stamp album from Valiant as they gave prizes if your birthday matched one of the random dates printed and worrying that I wouldn't qualify because I was a girl?

My own mother read the People's Friend and My Weekly.

My six year old granddaughter gets the Beano delivered every Saturday and loves it. For Christmas, she received a personalised Beano annual. Something to treasure.
I tried to get the Dandy for her, but it is no more.

For me it was Bunty, a special treat was Judy, then I moved on to Jackie. Of course, the first page I went to was the problem page. All that teenage angst!

Dad was regular at the Tobacconist/ newsagent,christmas morning ,meant I was allowed to go and choose an annual for myself,and my brother,whilst buying Tobacco and sweets for the day.
Dad went to the off licence for sherry and port,and light ale,which opened till 12pm,they also sold large arrowroot biscuits

I had Girl and my brother, Eagle. I seem to remember we weren’t allowed the Beano or Dandy. The annuals we received at Christmas were Brownies or Guides for me and Cubs and Scouts for my brother. As a teenager in the 60s, I had Pop Weekly, which had lots of pics of “pop stars” in black and white! My favourites ended up all over my bedroom walls. I also remember collecting “Knowledge” which came as a weekly magazine and built up to make a childrens encyclopaedia in 5 binders, used lots of information from that in many school projects.

The Beano Dandy Bunty and Jackie I remember them very well loved them. An auntie of ours gave me a general knowledge illustrated book one Christmas I thought it was the best gift I ever got. I remember reading children’s books black beauty children of cherry tree farm children of willow farm and countless others. They were from the library we never had many books in our house at all.

I used to get Bunty and always the annual for Christmas. Have you seen how much childrens comics cost these days though? I’d rather buy DGS a new book than a comic - they cost the same at the supermarket.
