If Christmas starts in November when can you eat a hot cross bun?

I suppose now you can eat them whenever you like, but I would still prefer to wait to Good Friday to eat a hot cross bun, but I always forget to bake them!

You can't buy them here in Denmark, but we have glorious sticky cream buns for the Monday of Shrove week and they have been on sale for ages now, as are Easter eggs.

No-one keeps Lent here, as it is a predominantly Protestant country.

I feel it spoils a holiday, when we can get Christmas things in November and Easter eggs in February. Others feel that January and February are such dreary months that we need cheering up.

Good Friday. Or all year round.

As soon as they are on sale. They always taste better than fruit buns ?

I absolutely adore Hot Cross Buns! We eat them all year round.

All year round - my husband loves them so I make them all year round. And mince pies too!! I draw the line at Christmas cake and pudding, I make him wait until Christmas for those!

It’s the same rule for some people with turkey. I know lots of families who eat turkey only at Christmas we eat it all year round it’s healthy protein.

When I was a child we only ate them over Easter.
I ordered some toasted tea cakes from Waitrose and got a substitute of hot cross buns. You can buy them all year round now.

We like the Rich Fruity ones from M and S best and always buy 2 packs as cheaper that way then freeze one pack.

When I was a child we used to queue outside the only baker open on good Friday for his delicious hot cross buns. That was the only day they were sold. My mother bought a dozen and we had some for breakfast each day over the Easter holiday. Now they are sold all year in many flavours I tend to eat them all year. Just wish the supermarkets wouldn’t use the cross all year….keep that for the month of Easter……but I guess that’s a factory production issue.

I don't think that people stick to our food traditions anymore !

The only one ,which my family keep is fish only on a Friday even though the church has relaxed that rule .
If I don't eat fish then I eat vegetarian on the day .
It's a problem with my father ,who is a huge eater of beef ,pork and lamb .

I love any kind of fruit bread all year round. Hot cross buns, fruit spiced loaf, Barmbrack, Irish fruit soda, etc. I have to have them all toasted with butter melted on and a big mug of tea.

I love a spicy fruit bread, so no contest. Keep lidl fruitloaf in freezer all year , take out a couple of slices when I fancy

Never before Good Friday

I eat them all year round. Why should something so yummy only be eaten at a certain time of the year?

It was only on Good Friday in my day - that dates me! I also remember when everything fell absolutely silent from Good Friday noon. No traffic, no shops, no cinemas or theatres, no parties, no restaurants. It was eerie but also rather wonderful. The start of lockdown brought back those memories…….

I love Hot Cross Buns eaten fresh without butter. I haven't had any yet but now I will be on the lookout for them.

Any time .......

As a child when food was seasonal we always looked forward to each item as it became available. With everything being available all the time now there is no surprise or real enjoyment any more.
I had a grandmother who lived in South Africa a lot and I never forget the pure joy of the huge box of bunches of large black grapes all swaddled in scrunched white tissue paper that arrived once. It was like a box of magic. Out is season fruit was also available in one shop in the centre of town where my mother sometimes bought red peppers and avocados. They were treats.

Used not to eat them until Good Friday but now they are available from the beginning of January. I love them (especially Sainsbury’s) so I eat them when they are available. Tea cakes are not the same and I don’t eat them. Other members of the family can’t tell the difference!

Hot Cross Buns were definitely a treat for Good Friday and the Easter weekend. But at no other time.

I buy them as soon as they are in the shops. I prefer the plain ones and I am having them for breakfast with lashings of butter

My neighbour invited me in for a cup of tea (Earl Grey) on Friday afternoon and gave me a toasted hot cross bun with butter on... delicious!
