A few I've watched recently;
Joy.
A star is born.
Best of enemies.
Mary, Queen of Scots.
All very good and entertaining.

Based on actual events. Fisherman's Friend is a pleasant escape to the Cornish fishing village of Port Isaac. A fairly predictable story but character driven and it passes the time pleasantly, not to mention tunefully.

I subscribe to Cinema Paradiso. They have tens of thousands of DVDs films of all nations, TV series, old and newly released films. Two DVDs at a time. As soon as I send them back get another two by return of post.

Cry the Beloved Country, an old film about South Africa.

Can anyone tell me the name of the heroine in Rebecca?

I've sometimes found old films on utube which seemed inaccessible anywhere else.

Annaram1, AFAIK the name of the main character, the new bride, is never mentioned. A very clever device, IMO, given how the dead wife, Rebecca, pervades and casts a dark shadow over the whole plot.

More great recommendations! I'm grateful. I loved the Marx Brothers when I was young - a real pity if they are no longer available. But really good to have suggestions for more recent films.

The heroine in Rebecca was never named in the book, and although I’ve seen the original film, I can’t remember if she was named in that. The book, which I loved, was written in the first person, so she never named herself.

My Octopus Teacher on Netflix, brilliant film about the developing relationship under the sea between a man and an octopus.You will be amazed.

Paul, and all the Cornetto trilogy of which Hot Fuzz is my faavourite ...not too serious and a great laugh.

Always loved Rebecca, I’ve got it on my recorder so I can watch it whenever I like. I don’t think she was named at all, not even in the book. I also liked Field of Dreams and Casablanca.

Hope Gap is very good, Bill Nighy. It’s feels like play. Annette Benning in it too as a very annoying character!

I’ve recommended this film before, Untochable, the french film based in a true story, not the Eliot Ness one. It’s wonderfully heartwarming and very funny too.
Also Florence Foster Jenkins.

My husband’s favourite is “Come September” with Rock Hudson and Sophia Loren.
If anyone knows where it’s on I would be very grateful to know,
haven’t been able to find it even through we appear to have all the streaming and sky channels.

Film Stars Don't Die In Liverpool is heartbreakingly sad. It stars Annette Benning in the story of Gloria Grahame who was very famous at one time. I loved her portrayal of Ado Annie in Oklahoma!

The last film we saw at the cinema before lockdown 1 was
Military Wives.
Going to the cinema tomorrow with 1 GC for Peter Rabbit 2 - we have been waiting so long!! Will take 2 GSs next week.
I know many people don't like it but we love Peter Rabbit.
Loved Fisherman's Friends - a shock in the middle which you don't see coming!
We also loved Goodbye Christopher Robin. I think Margot Robbie is stunning. I also loved her in Mary Queen of Scot's but i am not keen on that film.
We enjoyed JoJo Rabbit at the cinema but may not be everyone's cup of tea.
Maybe going down the wrong path now but i love Rocketman.

Yesterday was a good watch and i enjoyed Nicholas Nickleby and of course the latest Little Women.

Apparently the second Mrs de Winter was never named because Daphne du Murier wanted her nameless state to denote her inferior mindset to Rebecca. It certainly works.

If you want a more modern, check your brain out kind of film, Saving Grace is pretty good.

Also, any of the Ealing Comedies.
