Isn't that why people have dogs? To bark warnings if they hear something?
We kept geese which were far better at alerting us to danger anything approaching on the down side, the gander used to nip my knees whenever I hung the washing out.

Our border terrier loves to sit and look out of the window, he's a very well trained dog but if he sees a rabbit or a fox in the paddock, or a squirrel runs across the fence I'm afraid it's pandemonium. He will stop if told "no" but it's a reflex action for him. Fortunately we don't have near neighbours and our nearest ones all have dogs that will bark too. He also barks at the sound of a doorbell, be it ours or on the TV or radio.

? one of mine did that, also climbed ladders, stole socks. Hankies if they were in anyone’s pockets and was a continuous terrorist. Not so much of a barker really though.
She’s now pretty deaf and barks a little more. As age has her the thieving and running away has stopped. She is my heart dog though ......

It is very irritating to have constant barking in the background earnshaw, terriers do tend to be like this if not trained or left alone for long periods. Have you spoken to your neighbours about it.?
I love dogs but do sympathise with you, hope you find a solution.

I had a dog that in the house, NEVER barked. During the day while we were out, both dogs were outside in a kennel and run. The male barked all day, so the neighbours told me.

Contact you dog warden they will warn the owners that it might be removed we did this and it worked.

Oh dear. I do sympathise. One of my dogs was yappy . Lived to a ripe old age but drove me mad. Thankfully she didn’t bark in the house or garden just on walks or in the car, so the neighbours were safe from her.
