Campaigning for the removal of landmines which killed and injured so many people www.halotrust.org/about-us/who-we-are/our-history/ and instigating an internationl agreement about it.

My stepfather was a P.O.W with the Japanese, captured after the fall of Singapore and the murder of his Chinese girl friend and their baby. He never talked about it at least not to me, but when he was dying he did tell me that he had always regarded himself as fortunate that he actually survived those dreadful years, when so many others didn't. A star gazer perhaps!

A star gazer indeed. If only we all were. I remember when I was little my father talking about being on North Atlantic Convoys, he was a teenager. He talked like it was such an adventure and how beautiful the aurora borealis was. Late at night if he had been drinking he would talk about the horror of sailing through the men whose ships had gone down, not allowed to stop and rescue them, knowing that if his ship was hit the same fate would befall him.

He was a star gazer I think although sometimes the darkness (or mud) got him.

Harry is selling his mother. It's the only currency he has, plus his "misery". The theme of Harry feeling happy with his life is not a money-maker.

You are right Annie, those are sadly the facts. No one ever seems to remember the poor driver who also lost his life. He was off duty and wasn't expecting to be ordered to drive. Why he agreed goodness knows, but it's not hard to guess. The body guard who was severely injured, the two young boys who were mentally scarred, one to this day. Why were they so cavalier with other peoples lives and well being against all advice?
