first moon landing, your memories R-I-P the commander of the mission

I remember looking up at the moon and thinking that there were men walking about up there. I was only 7 so it probably didn't seem that amazing to me at the time. Now, I realise what a big deal it is/was!

Armstrong and Aldrin are the ones that people remember, but I can't imagine what it was like for Collins all alone in that capsule. If something had gone wrong, he would have been coming home on his own and it would have been a very different story. For a while, he was the most isolated man in the universe.

We stayed up to watch it, but I was only there because I had a painful wicklow on my thumb, and hubby was sorting it for me, otherwise he`d have been watching it on his own. It didn`t particularly thrill me, to be honest.

We were living near Rome at the time, and rented a tv to watch it.It was huge. About a month later we reminded the rental place that we still had it. Apparently we'd bought it.

We all went to bed, and set our alarm clocks to wake us in time for the moon landings. We got up, put our dressing gowns on and all sat in the living room watching. It was a marvellous sight, even on the grainy black and white television.
My Dad was fascinated by anything space related. I remember listening to the beeps from sputnik on the radio.

We were on honeymoon in Hampshire. It was shown on tv as it happened, 2am and most people stayed up in the lounge to watch. We took a walk and looked up at the moon in wonder that anyone could actually land on it. We speculated that in years to come, space travel could become commonplace.... Not quite yet.

I watched with new daughter on my lap I don’t think I realised the significance at the time either. I now watch the ISS pass over my house regularly in awe of astronauts who made it possible. RIP Micheal Collins.

I stayed up to watch it. It was amazing.

I was 17 and arrived at work tired and the "old biddies" that I worked with couldn't understand why I'd bothered to stay up

I was in my teens and stayed up all night with my parents to watch it.

I remember staying up with my dad to watch it thinking it was amazing. There is so much speculation about it as a hoax don’t know what to think about now.

We got up early to watch it, and I went outside and gazed at the moon, and tried to make sense of it all.

My sister and I were staying at my auntie’s house. Remember watching it on the tv at breakfast time.

I must have been so ignorant of current affairs back then, I had no idea of the significance of it all.

I was living in Cyprus at the time of the landing. Fully remember being outside and looking at the moon in awe and wonder. Didn't spot any of them, though! Perhaps they were on the other side?
