Treats that are no longer available

Anyone remember when smarties came with a mixture of plain and milk chocolate centres? And the orange ones were orange flavoured? My sister and I used to have a tube to share, and we counted them so we each had an exact share of the different colours!

Yes, I remember Little Imps. I didn't really like them either.
I was given 1½d bus fare each day; I would walk so that I could spend it on sweets! I used to get a little finger of Cadbury's chocolate for 1d and a Fruit Salad and a Black Jack for ½d. You can still buy the latter two in packets.
Barmouth biscuits, jaylucy- I used to love them and now I really want some! Another favourite were Lemon Puffs- anyone know if they are still available anywhere?

Caramac - something very strange about that chocolate bar!

I haven't had one since childhood but do remember being faintly repulsed at the taste compared to say Cadbury's Dairy Milk, but couldn't resist buying one with pocket money every now and then, to torment myself

Fast forward many decades - a few months ago in M&S I bought a small tub of Marmite cream cheese(!). I'm not a particular fan of Marmite so don't know why I bought it.

Anyway, the stuff tasted and looked like Caramac - and again I was repulsed but couldn't resist it, and ate the whole tub in one sitting. Very odd behaviour on my part

M&S used to do coffee walnut whips, or their own version. I bought them 2 or 3 years ago. Not good though. The cream inside was awful.

Does anyone remember Little Imps? Tiny squares of liquorice in a minuscule box. They were bitter and I didn’t really like them but if my brother had them, I wanted them too! I do remember the wagon wheels that were sold at school were the size of tea plates and like curly wirly bars they have either shrunk dramatically or I have grown!

I love the occasional Caramac. Available in Farmfoods and usually Co-Op’s.
I wish Aztec bars were still available, they were my favourite.

Cadbury bar six was my favorite chocolate bar but I also loved the 1d golden cups. I really really miss greasy potato puffs too. Anyone remember toasty toppers? The chicken and mushroom can was my favorite supper on toast.

Potato puffs, they used to sell them at school break time 3d. They also sold wagon wheels which you can still get.

Mojos, blackjacks, fruit salad, penny arrow bars. Does anyone remember the jubbly drinks you used to get in a triangular shaped carton ? We used to put them in the freezer in the summer to make a whopping lolly ice - the cherry flavour was my favourite.

widgeon3 the only Lion bars I know are still sold, but they’re a chocolate coated bar rather than a loose sweet sold by weight.

Does anyone have childhood memories of curly wurly bars ? My next door neighbour showed me some she had bought online for her little nephew and we were both shocked at how small they were. Were we just small children or am I right in thinking these used to be huge !!!

Thanks Moggycuddler and LinAnn52, glad to know I wasn’t imagining it. My early childhood years were spent in Liverpool so I was wondering if it was something particular to that area.

Oh Grannygangan I loved Spanish Gold too. Also the little cloth bags with little yellow nuggets of chewing gum in them, it was like little bags of gold. Rancheros crisps and Whoppers. Pocket money lasted for ever in those days lol

*GagaJo*. I think you are talking about Fry’s Five Boys, which had five rather sickly fruit flavoured creams. The boys in question all had very rosy cheeks and what my mother used to call turnip top hairstyles.

My recollection of five boys was of five rectangles of chocolate which depicted the boy going through five stages of emotion from happy (because he had the full bar of chocolate) to crying (because it was the last rectangle).

I think the one Gagajo is talking about is Five Centres, with each segment having a different fruit flavoured fondant

No-body has mentioned Lion bars which I could buy in the 40/50s
They were a special treat but my mother would allow us to buy 1 oz. of sweets each daily on her account. They should cost no more than 6d a quarter and would be secured by Mrs Bunce, the shopkeeper, in a brown conical bag
It must have been during rationing time so i do not really know how it was managed

Nestle Sweetheart. My aunt always had tins in her cupboard when I was a child. Pear flavour was my fav, strawberry coming in a close second. You whisked milk in it and it made a yummy pudding.

another vote here for horlicks tablets, aztec bars & also cabana bars were fabulous I really miss those. The lime candy from a box of weekend chocolates or the butterscotch from a box of black magic, yum! My favourite biscuit used to be caramel cookies, I think the were made by Peak Freans maybe ? They were darkish smooth flat biscuit, square with rounded corners, not to sweet but just perfect with a cuppa. I've never seen them for years & really miss them. They weren't expensive either.

I would love to get my hands on a chocolate bar I haven’t seen in years called Country Style (I think). It was a gingham style wrapper with a lady on the front.

My DH just googled the Five Boys bar. I remembered the wrapper with the different faces on it. The first one in tears, but gradually cheered up, presumably when he got the chocolate!
