We have a shop specialising in old fashioned sweets but they are never as I remember them as a child. I loved flying saucers filled with sherbet, ropes of liquorice, Barrett’s sweet cigarettes, liquorice all sorts. The modern versions seem meaner and less flavoursome and, of course, you would never get sweet cigarettes now. Every Saturday, my modest pocket money would all be spent on these. A childhood filled with visits to the dentist!
