But just to say, if a thread is started enquiring about a missing poster it is immediately deleted so there is no way of finding out if it is all brushed under the carpet.

I come here for good cheer, disappointed; with the news of lockdown until March as well, not surprising I suppose, a sad kitchen visit.

It’s a pity that GNHQ don’t seem to realise that without the contributions of regular posters, there just wouldn’t be a forum.
Alienate too many regular posters by appearing to make unjust and illogical decisions and the backbone of Gransnet will break. It is already severely bent.

I don’t know if StellaGransnet’s post was intended to sound like a threat, but I don’t like being threatened and will be curtailing my involvement from now on.

If threads are deleted by the moderators for reasons deemed valid, would it not be possible to see them, by title only, under Site Stuff/deleted threads, so we know what, when and why they have vanished?

I agree Doodle, its spoiling the kitchen, I am going to withdraw.

I thought I'd missed something with all the deleted posts etc, etc!! What ever is wrong with people caring and showing kindness especially in these strange and uncertain times. I've had a hospital appointment this afternoon and we got back to the sight of some beautiful little snowdrops peeping up at the side of the drive. I'm sending a picture but you do need to zoom in to see them!! And Duncan says "good afternoon" from the laundry basket!!

I did want to take this discussion away from soops kitchen so I started another thread about this issues under site stuff about 1 minute ago. It has been deleted.

Unbelievable and sad ?

When I was very unwell recently, I was overwhelmed by the kind comments and PMs I received, many from members I had never heard of.
I found it so uplifting in such awful times.
I'm so annoyed about the whole situation.

I am thinking particularly of a member who recently posted, in distress, that an ambulance had just taken her husband off to hospital as an emergency and that she, herself, was not well either.
I consider that the posts which followed showed the Gransnet community at its very best.
There was an initial silence as she herself was hospitalised and the messages of love and concern just flowed in.
By keeping in touch, just saying 'hello' and 'thinking of you' regularly and sending virtual flowers meant that eventually, when she came home and in her own time, she felt able to thank us but sadly to share that her dear husband never came home.
I just cannot accept that we should have done nothing for this poor lady except remain silent and absent from the life which she herself had wished to share with us.
Surely this is not what a 'community' is all about?

Justine (Roberts), founder of Gransnet (and Mumsnet) is still CEO. I wonder if she is aware of all this disquiet and unhappiness in the kitchen?

GNHQ I don’t think the lovely Soop’s kitchen is the right place for this sort of discussion. I would like to start a thread under site stuff where other posters can add their comments if they wish to without disturbing the kitchen.

Do you not think we would be worried about her absence particularly at this time of coronavirus?
There is often mention on this thread of people who are missing for a while. Others ask if we have heard.
Soop’s kitchen is a very caring thread. We are all concerned for each other it would be very strange in deed if we didn’t ask where someone was or why they were missing. Hence my post last night. I am sorry it’s against the rules but if we can’t even ask how someone is without having our posts deleted we soon won’t be able to post to one another at all.

Also, if you are going to expel someone from GN is it not possible for other GNetters to be able to say that we don’t want them to go. Or to be able to ask for our opinions to be taken into account.

Many people are unhappy with the way things are being handled these days. Perhaps a better explanation of your rules and how you make your decisions should be available for all to read.

Kalu so true. We have obviously moved to China where possibly everything except the weather is verboten.

Most but not all of the snow has vanished from here but the light drizzle should finish it off.

Dare I say I am looking forward to cooking Urmston's lovely pork recipe but as I have to buy the pork it will not be anytime soon.

Times have changed and not for the better in many ways.
