Lovely post Farview I couldn't agree more with many of the other comments.
I too lurk and look forward to GN even though I don't manage a daily read. I've not posted for quite some time but I've found some of the topics very helpful especially on the Estrangement threads but I've not looked for a while as it was getting a bit difficult recently as I felt the tone changed with some posters.
Each to their own as they say but I just took a break from it all as confrontation can be a bit much at times.
Thank you to all the lovely people on GN that make my days brighter and give some amazing insights and advice.
Unigran if you put a star before the word and after without a space it makes it bold
After previewing and not seeing it in bold I'm hoping I'm right

Unigran Before you write the name you put on the sqiggle - I do not know the nake of it but it is beside & and looks like this* each side of the word you want to make bold, putting the sqiggle as close as possible to the name.

My apologies if this is a clear as mud but I am a computer idiot.

Unigran type an asterisk then the name then another asterisk, no spaces.
As far as I can see all are welcome here with or without children or grandchildren

I'll say one thing though, GN has certainly helped us get through this year. All thanks to the organisers of the site/ forum.

I feel the same as you farview. But can someone help me out here - how do I get posters' names to come up in bold type? As I would have liked farview's to come up in this post.

I don't post very often but look forward to reading all the posts and responses, most of which are really helpful.

Jan16 welcome. I do not have any children never mind grandchildren so I would not worry. Just dip in where you fancy but stay clear of politics threads unless you are prepared to give as good as will get!

What a lovely post Farview. I only discovered GN this year and have found it so interesting, informative, humerous, helpful and often humbling. The world and life seen from so many different viewpoints. I probably spend far too much time here but, this year especially, it has been good to 'meet virtually' with other people.

I too was a lurker for about a year before posting on the Good Morning thread. There was a lovely kind welcoming response which gave me the confidence to continue joining in most days. I enjoy reading about all the different lives we lead and how we are all managing to cope with the usual health and family ups and downs in addition to the challenges of this difficult time. There has been so much to admire and plenty food for thought.
I do stick largely to the ‘good morning’ thread and am grateful for the nice group feeling in this time of solitude.

It’s a great place to rant so my DH doesn’t suffer so much. It’s a place to read about other’s families, lives and problems and you can ask for help or information from such a wide audience.
I do think there is an in crowd, but I’m not bothered about not being in it.
Best thread recently has been nightowls. Just knowing there are others who can’t sleep and are willing to chat, share problems and sympathise at stupid o’clock has been great and strangely, I’ve slept better over the last few days and not needed it, but the thread is still there if tonight’s a white night.

I do read Gransnet thread every day. If I miss it I don't have a morning cup of tea and my 2 Westie Hiighland terriers wouldn't get their morning cuddle on my lap while I read and occasionally post on Gransnet. I love reading most of the posts and sometimes agree or not.

I am also a “lurker”! Have posted a few times but maybe because I don’t have grandchildren I tend to feel a bit of an intruder. Always read all the interesting posts though!

I enjoy Gransnet too. The Games are my favourite but I know that other people don't like them.

That's what is good about Gransnet - you meet people on it from all walks of life and reads lots of different viewpoints.

The one thing I don't like is when people get overheated and make unpleasant remarks. My trouble is I don't like confrontation.

I stumbled on here because I was looking for discussions about menopause. I mostly enjoy it very much, and it’s helpful to read other points of view and get involved, without the possible awkwardness you’d encounter in real life. I have sensed groups of people who I would consider a clique, but it doesn’t bother me...I just move on as I would in real life. I have surprised myself really, because usually, I’m a very face to face sort of person. I find talking on the phone difficult, and writing things down can be a nightmare for me...expressing myself clearly. However, on here, it’s just a discussion in writing which seems to work. The only annoying thing is I have to keep stopping and get on with things!?

I believe life is never too full to share a little more kind words, wishes, thoughts and support to others so understand how you feel, farview. Best wishes to all throughout Christmas and the coming tough period.

GrannyGravy something similar happened to a GN last year. A few of us were meeting for coffee at 11 am in a large department store and I think it was her husband and son who said she really should not meet up with us. It was not 11 pm at night in woodland! She arrived home, unmolested and able to join us again another time! She thoroughly enjoyed herself.

I was a lurker for many months, before I was brave enough to post.

I got lectured by AC when I met with other GN members for the first time (they were worried I would be carted away by some weirdo imposter pretending to be a Gran).

Looking forward to meeting up again soon, love the GM thread and soops kitchen. I must learn to sit on my hands and not get embroiled on the Political threads.

Although I have family nearby I would be lost without my morning catch ups on GN.
