As have we esspee but 111 was dire yesterday.

We have had excellent treatment from our surgery and our pharmacy. It helps that we are proactive in our own medical care. I sometimes feel there must be a note on our records to indicate that we know what we are talking about.

I expect minimoon’s husband was given antibiotics to rule out a septic joint.
This also presents as red hot and extremely painful.

Any idea why kitty? It is thankfully many years since I was troubled by a UTI but I remember how much importance was put on testing. Hope you’re more comfortable today.

They no longer do testing for over 70s franbern.

Antibiotics for gout seems rather strange.

Kitty, hope you sent off a sample. It is important for any UTI to be tested as some infections are totally resistant to some anti=biotics.

My DH was at work yesterday, and finding his sore toe very painful, rang our Medical Practice. A Doctor rang him back, listened to his symptoms and asked him to take a photo of the affected toe and post the picture to her via the link provided in an email. DH is a technophobe, he had no idea how to do it, so asked a younger member of staff to take a picture of his toe and send it to the doctor.

She diagnosed gout, and sent a prescription for antibiotics to the chemists.

The nice doctor said he would come in and exam in me if I wanted him to. He also let me choose my own antibiotics and the length of the course.

The situation re the NHS is very worrying. When Covid ‘arrived’ the government seemed to have a bottomless well of money. Yet the NHS has been starved of cash for years. I don’t understand that now less people are being hospitalised for Covid why the government cannot find the funds to ensure people receive the treatments they need. I read recently that a consultant stated that he actually had nothing to do because people were not being referred. When social historians look back at this period in time I think they may well reach the conclusion that more people have become seriously ill with undiagnosed conditions than have died from Covid. I am not minimising the effect of Covid but I feel both the government and the NHS really are sitting on a ‘time bomb’. Sorry kittylester have got off on a bit of a tangent here but I wish you well and hope you get the treatment you need.

It is not good; I have been told to collect my hospital prescription from a hospital which is in an area locked down due to COVID.
I declined. Apparently they have not heard of Royal Mail.

I thought I had a UTI recently and getting past the receptionist, on the phone and in person, was the most difficult part of the process.

I had an eye infection during lockdown, and the service I got was very good indeed. NHS24 called me back when they said they would, they organised a face-to-face visit that afternoon and provided antibiotics on the spot. Then my own doctor called me back 2 days later to check on me! Better service than I would have had in normal times! I do think I was lucky.

Update. Phone call from a doctor somewhere in our village in one of those cars. Our village has awful mobile signal so it was difficult to tell what he was saying but he turned up and pushed my tablets through the door.

And in the meantime, whilst you’re waiting kitty, the infection gets a hold and your symptoms may worsen.

Ours is more like Fort Knox than a surgery.

I have an ongoing problem, seen two pharmacists given two different meds, had a telephone consultation with practice nurse sent photo of problem area, prescription for strong antibiotics. These were ineffective, eventually managed to get telephone consultation with locum GP different tablets and cream. I still have the problem and I think I need to woman up and ask for a face to face consultation (with masks obviously)

I am very 'but' about the NHS at present. It nearly killed DD at the height of the COVID emergency.
