Do you take your phone to bed?

You can set your phone to “do not disturb”, which will silence nuisance calls, whilst allowing numbers approved by you to get through. We have found this very useful

Charge in bedroom.... on silent from 10 pm to 6am

I have a landline in the bedroom in case of emergencies. The mobile is turned off and stays downstairs. All day long my phone is ringing, or peeping with messages as I have a large and chatty family! I don't need it for a few hours at night.

I take my smartphone up to bed, plug it in and charge it for an hour whilst I read. Then unplug and put on the bedside table switched off to act as an alarm. I didnt know you can programme specific numbers to overide 'do not disturb' mode. I might try to figure that out. We do have a landline so I guess if there was an emergency the family would know to ring it if they got no mobile response.

Leave mine downstairs and on silent. In the case of an emergency family would ring the landline.

Our phones charge by the bed and are on 24/7. I have an elderly mother who lives on her own.

My phone has become an extension of my arm!
I have it with me at all times. Im in waiting for a Coronary Stent so it gives me reassurance.

No phone in my bedroom.
We live in a bungalow, there’s a phone in the hall. I’m sure I would hear it if it rang. I don’t have any family that are likely to have an emergency situation.
Of course that may happen but I can’t live my life expecting the worst on a day to day basis.

Like many I keep the phone by my bed at night as an alarm, for reading, listening to audiobooks etc.
I have a list of time differences for overseas friends so I don’t send texts or call in their night time.
Although my phone isn’t on silent, the odd beep doesn’t disturb me.

Just to clarify, as much as having a mobile phone near your bedside at night is daunting and unsettling should there be a need for family to call you through the night, most importantly it is for you should you need to ring for emergency services.

I'm not wanting to scaremonger but people should be aware, if they haven't thought of it, that if a fire broke out downstairs you could be trapped upstairs unable to contact anyone. Seconds are vital in a fire outbreak and could save a life. Also, the mains phone may be damaged in these circumstances.

My phone comes to bed with me, use as white noise to drown husbands snoring. Read news and social media on waking

Mine is used as a safety mechanism. I have siezures and falls. Sometimes leading up to a siezure I can become unable to move but still talk fine. I suffers partial paralysis and as my phone is voice activated I can just say "Ok Google ring DH" so I can gain help. We don't sleep together due to my mobility needs I sleep in the living room on recliner as I'm unable to lie in bed. My husband is partially deaf so shouting wouldn't work as he has to sleep with hearing aids out. It also means if I fall In not usually far away from my phone and can do the same either call him or call our local surgery who will organise an ambulance

I charge mine in the bedroom I have to have it there in case my mum presses her pendant alarm. It’s also set to only receive calls, no texts etc between 9pm and 7 am Family know they must ring not text if it’s an emergency.

monk08 ,,when I had a home assessment by our local fire-service they recommend taking a mobile 'phone upstairs overnight as landlines can be damaged or cut from outside.
(They also suggested a spare set of house keys to be kept in the bedroom. If urgent house access is needed without forcing an entry through locked doors then keys can be thrown down.)

Hilarious, or have a key safe outside with spare front door key(s) in it.

Always have my phone by my bedside It never is away from me really In my pocket or bag all day and up to bed with me at night

Have phone in the bedroom for alarm and ‘just in case’ but it’s on do not disturb. Only certain numbers will get through .

My phone also comes to bed with me, it stays in the case so no blue light, I also listen via earplugs, to radio 4 (World Service all night) to drown Tinnitus (and make sleeplessness a pleasure), but I keep it as far from my head as possible and it is in an anti RF cover, (as some people say you should not have a phone near your head.

Neither of us charge our phones in the bedroom and only use daytime charging. I leave my phone in the living room. Hubby loves the alarm on his phone (Dawn Chorus with additional chimes) so he has his in the bedroom, and uses the alarm every morning!

I use my phone as my alarm bit put the ringer on silent. I don't use a landline any more. So if there was an emergency, it is right by my side. Also occasionally there may be something going on outside, so I could take a photo for evidence. (not that I've needed to)

We charge our phones upstairs and take them off the charger when they are done. We both have to trek to the loo during the night, so unplugging them is no problem.

It is a good thing that we keep them close by. A few months ago, DH was woken by a call to say that his mother was dying. He just got the chance to mumble a few words to her on the phone. It would have been awful if he missed that call.

My phone is on charge by my bed. I have it on do not disturb mode from 10 to 7 but I do use it to listen to radio in the middle of the night as I have a medical condition which often wakes me up and I struggle to get back to sleep!

Do not disturb on but set to allow calls from my family and also those trying to get through from a same number 3 times within a space of 15 minutes.

Yes, I'll often catch up/read articles online in bed instead of a book, then all on silent except alarm which I use if I need to be up at a particular time. Charges for an hour in the morning whilst I have breakfast, shower and dress. Phone all ready fully charged for the day and I am too!
