Keeping foxes out of gardens!

Very difficult to protect a garden against foxes. They're good climbers so a fence needs to be about 5ft+. Even then they sometimes tunnel below it.
Fox poo smells really awful.
Can the old lady contact someone at the council involved in pest control?

Thank you so much for all your helpful replies. As I said she is an old lady and is unable to clear the mess up herself - she has to wait for her carer to do it. I promised I would try and find a solution and I knew that Gransnetters would not let me down. (Apart from one - why is there always one who has to be unpleasant?)

Anything " left behind " by animals is dangerous. What they can pass on is something everyone should read up about.
A few buckets of water containing Jeyes fluid thrown across the area should deter them and other animals too.

This person is elderly and it is presumably in a spot where she has to walk.
I shall read with interest as we get a fox walking through our open plan front garden sometimes. I don't mind but would like him to defecate elsewhere.

Jeyes fluid apparrently works, they dislike the smell.
Also mothballs - less easy to get hold of.

I have a sonic animal scarer in my garden and it is brilliant. Bought it from A****n for about £20 and it was money well spent! There's various settings for all manner of animals as I was constantly getting the neighbours moggies and urban foxes using my garden as a toilet.

A tape recording of a dachshund barking? I don't know if that would work, but as they hunt foxes it might just.

What is the area round her door like? Are there plants that could smell nice to a fox? Dustbins?

Has she tried putting down the kind of powder that is supposed to deter dogs?

Most animals dislike the smell of vinegar or acidic acid, so putting a little out in a jar might do the trick.

If none of this helps, she will need a good strong fence.
