...........and 'systemic racism' as she just couldn't understand what the terms mean, given that she thinks most people are treated more or less the same in the UK. I was fortunate to have recently been given an excellent example by a black acquaintance that graphically exemplifies these terms:
What does 'sytemic racism' look like? Try this. Type 'women's professional hairstyle' into a google image search; now type 'women's UNprofessional hairstyle' - see the difference? That's a demonstration of systemic racism and white privilege.
My sister was truly shocked and now has a much better understanding of some of the in-built obstacles people of colour need to grapple with.
