Barefoot

I can’t believe how many of you have bare feet outdoors!

You could tread on anything which could cause a slight scratch or cut on the soles which could well become infected.

Very occasionally if the weather is extremely hot I have bare feet indoors but I would put sandals on in the garden.

I’m amazed at those at the coast who come off the beach and have no sandals on to walk along the prom where there certainly are sharp stones and could be tiny flecks of broken glass.

Madness.

I occasionally walk about indoors barefoot but, I am afraid of slipping on the stairs. Slippers (not mules) are safer

So true about the Lego! But what I would give to be fishing toys out from under the sofa again!! I so miss having the little ones around.

I have had repeated bouts of plantar fasciitis and was advised by podiatrist never to walk around barefoot. In her opinion it was a cause of this very painful condition.

Her explanation was that the structure of the foot would be unsupported and result in added strain on any slightly weak points and lead to long term problems.

I was already at the long term problem stage when I saw her so the advice was too late.

I wear flip flops around the house and garden but as soon as I sit down for a coffee or whatever, I kick them off and often dust and hoover bare foot.

Always have something on my feet.

I have what I call retail feet, many hours at work standing behind a counter,bunions and hammer toes all fighting to meet my wizenened little baby toes.

A severed tendon in one of my big toes,as well as a whopping bunion,a massive scar where they tried to repair it,means toe all floppy,and I have to lift it up and shove it in when putting shoes on,otherwuse I tread on it.

Haven't worn proper shoes ,only slippers,sluders or crocs for the garden, will take to wearing the shoe boxes on my feet as they have spread.

On the upside,I dont have hard skin

I hasten to the toilet in the dark of night and sometimes step on my elderly dog's wee wee on the tiled floor. My problem is if I put the light on and put my slippers on I wake up too much.

Oh dear chewy they must be useful for galloping around though ?

Can't bear to be barefoot, wear slippers or fitflops in the house and garden. Really couldn't manage in summer without my fitflops, what a wonderful invention, just like wearing two pillows on your feet, the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn.

I wear pool style flip flops almost all the time in the house and in the garden . Unless it’s very cold in which case I wear slippers. My late mum never wore slippers and her feet had awful hard skin . My feet are as soft as babies

I've only very recently bought a pair of crocs and they're excellent for the garden.

I love walking barefoot on soft sand or grass but for everything else it's slippers or crocs at the moment.

Mowing a lawn in bare feet is madness.

Pigs trotters sums my feet up exactly, even down to the gnarled toes!

I was always barefoot until I cut my foot badly on some broken glass, now it's flip-flops.

I'm always barefoot. Used to teach sans shoes until teaching became a profit making business instead of a labour of love.

I have slippers but usually only put them on if my feet are freezing or if it's cold/wet and I have to pop outside. And yes, hard skin is a problem.

You're brave, mowing the lawn!

I go barefoot in the house and when I mow the lawn I do it in my bare feet. I have heard anecdotally that grounding (aka earthing; walking on the ground outside in bare feet) is supposed to be good for your body.

For people who need to wear slippers, I always recommend that if you know someone at risk for falls, or if you are ever in a seniors' or care facility, check to see what they're wearing for slippers. Aging increases fall risk, and good footwear is a way to mitigate that risk. You know that whatever shoes someone with a high fall risk wears are likely to be good shoes.

My toes are so bent and twisted now that I'm treading on my own toes when I walk, and I'm heavy!

Unfortunately I don't have normal sensation to my feet due to diabetic complications, so barefoot could potentially be dangerous. I wear lovely cosy slippers that fit like a glove!

Don't be tempted MissA, I wish I'd never done it. In my 20s and 30s, I went barefoot as much as possible, even driving. Over time, the skin on the soles of my feet became very hard and calloused and no amount of sloughing, filing, scraping, rasping, creams or chiropody has ever softened them or improved the feel and appearance. Buy a pretty pair of sandals and save your feet.

Barefoot indoors and out unless I;m going further than the end of the street,although I have been known to walk to the local shop 250 yards away without realising I've no shoes on.One of my GD's goes barefoot a lot ,mainly because she spends a lot of time with me and her mum complains about it ..the lack of shoes,not spending time with me .

Barefoot with deep red toenails at the minute . I feel comfortable in bare feet. ..when its warm enough of course and I love the feel of grass underfoot.
