Lockdown Breakdown (Lighthearted)

Doris that's just reminded me of my mum screaming "Quick! Get a saucepan!" while she tried to hold onto the spinner when it started break dancing around the floor, and gushing water everywhere.

Miss Adventure. I had ordered one just before I saw your post. I had one when I first got married and remember chasing it around the kitchen if it was loaded unevenly. Hope they have improved in 45 years!

Same here, Goldengirl, our spare fridge/freezer went kaput. I’d only had it 28 years and all! New one came from John Lewis. The guy brought it on a trolley thing and deposited it in the garage where it lives. We had to manoeuvre the old one out of the way and there it will stay until lockdown is over.

DorisD I hope you can find a solution and you get a new WM soon.

You don't have to be stuck without. Mine gave up the ghost last Monday. I ordered a new one from Hughes, delivered two days later and the delivery man lifted it just inside the front door. I was then able to drag it into the kitchen.
Ringing washing machine repair companies, I found one that would come and take out old one, unpack new one and install it for £65, he then took the old one away. Worth ringing several, another one quoted me £135!

I'm sure an independent plumber and his mate could get the machine in to the house and install it.

Chestnut. I do have a couple of strong men of my own (two sons) but they each have a young child with a medical condition which makes them vulnerable so I won't risk them coming into the house. The launderette is a good drive away, so I have just ordered a spin dryer! Remember those?

Our launderette has been open since the beginning.

Maybe you could think about getting a spin dryer, Doris?

My neighbour's cooker has died but then it is the one she nearly set fire to the other day when I broke lockdown to 'rescue' her

Our freezer decided to call it a day which was horrendous. The good news is that we managed to get a delivery. DH made a ramp to the back door and the guy [on his own!] managed to get it directly into the utility passage [it's not a room!] whilst DH got out of the way. DH then managed to shove it in to the appropriate spot.
The bad news is that DH had to get the old freezer out beforehand to the garden on his own and there it remains until we can get a collection.

My worst nightmare! Any possibility of getting a couple of young men to bring the new machine in the house? It could be done safely if you keep your distance. Otherwise I think I would have to use the launderette for sheets and towels. They take a big load so you can probably get quite a lot in the machine.
