I'm at the "Mud March" in London. My boots are soaked, my skirt is covered in mud but I'm surrounded by other women and we are marching together and we will win the vote.

If I weren’t here I would be in Antarctica. The penguin chicks would be fledgd and making their way in wobbly lines to the sea, stoppIng in confused huddles by the edge until the pile up becomes so large that the front ones get pushed in.

Splash! Up they poplike rubber floats cheeping indignantly and with suprised looks at each other. Then the flippers snap into action and away they go. In their natural element, instant masters of their environment and only seconds ago they didn’t even know it existed.....

I`d be sitting on the beach at Muasdale in Kintyre, gazing across a shimmering sea to the islands of Gigha, Islay and Jura, then I`d travel a bit further down the road and pay a call on the lovely Soop and MacSporran.

I was just dreaming about these lovely places when you put the grammar question in and brought me back to reality.
I think it’s one of the few subjunctives remaining in English -used where you are not stating a fact but a wish or supposition It’s like “ if I were you “ .

I’d be driving from Newton Abbot, via Bovey Tracey onto Dartmoor, and climbing Haytor with my family and dogs.
Such happy memories, climbed Haytor every year, 58 to be exact, still managed it just last year, heaven on earth?

If I could be anywhere think I would like to be in the very north of Jutland to the endless white beaches and the artist community of Skagen.
It will be cold there now but in a few months time I shall go.
I may have to time travel too (is that allowed) and be in the 1880s

Lake Garda would be my destination. We've been lucky enough to go many times. Just sitting at a pavement cafe people watching, and the comings and goings on the lake. We'd probably plan which boat trips we'd make to the small towns and villages around the lake visiting the small shops and markets. Probably buying yet more leather goods and scarves!

I've got a grammar dilemma as well why did I use "I weren't" not "I wasn't" ?? That'll make me think!

If I weren't here I'd be with DH and the kids on the boat we once had (a 23' cabin cruiser) pootling up and down the river systems around here, joining up with friends who 'weekended' on theirs, for pub lunches, playing Trivial Pursuit' in the evenings, sharing bottles of wine and snacks. Sometimes a riotous sing along to Billy Joel or Genesis if we were moored where we couldn't upset anyone.

Fried breakfasts, fishing, walking to nearby villages or tourist attractions. We were sometimes only five or six miles from home but we could have been thousands of miles away in terms of fun and relaxation.

If I wasn't here I would be walking along the promenade at Fort Myers Beach , Florida. Id stop at the little ice-cream shop for a double chocolate ice-cream , then walk out along the pier.

Id take a seat in the shade to eat my ice-cream and watch the pelicans cruising by at eye level. Then laugh at their antics when they land on the pier rail waiting for fishermen's scraps.

Afterwards, I walk down the golden sand into the warm sea and watch for the tell tale fin of the local dolphins as they come in close to the beach .

I would be wandering round a modern art gallery in Turin, having had coffee in cafe San Carlo. I would have lunch at Eataly, which is in the former Fiat factory in Lingotto ( famous from “The Italian Job”) and pick up some food and wine from there. Then a stroll along the river and back to my hotel for a nap, and I’d go to Caffè Mulassano for vermouth and tramezzini- little snacks. I’d probably be too full for dinner, but I’d stop for ice cream before wandering back to my hotel for a nightcap.
It’s lovely to read others’ dreams- I hope they can all come true!

If I wasn’t here I would be....... Fairfield, Connecticut,USA. I would be walking along the beach near to where my aunt and uncle lived and picking up shells. Then a short drive away my DH and I would be off to Tomato and Basil and have a chicken salad while watching the Red Sox on TV. Talking to our friends there and then back to my aunt and uncles house for afternoon tea while watching the chipmunks, deer and turkeys in their beautiful garden. Sadly my aunt died last year and my uncle now lives in a care home on Manhattan. We holidayed there in 2013 and I’m glad we did as I often think back to the fabulous time that we had. I’m there right now in my head and thank you for starting this topic.

Sitting on a beach in San Diego where we went with friends quite a few years ago only this time I would like to be with all my kids and grandchildren. I used to really enjoy going for an early morning walk around the lake that the house we rented was situated on it was always lovely and warm but comfortable. At present I am sitting typing this feeling guilty because I haven’t done my daily exercise walk today and yesterday it is so miserably windy and cold that I cba!

Well if all this hadn't happened, our flight to Seville wouldn't have been cancelled last week and we would be wandering around Cadiz right now as it was our intention to split our time between those two places. Although we went to Spain exactly this time last year and split our time between Seville and Cordoba and I have to say I wouldn't mind being in the latter which was wonderful even better than Seville also a pretty damn interesting and atmospheric city. So we would be sitting in a cobbled courtyard in the old city, drinking coffee, maybe having a pastry. We have just visited the awesome (to use an Americanism where it's actually justified) Mesquita, people watching, before we move on to the Palace of the Christian Kings, the smell of Orange blossom is wafting in the air and the Oranges are prolific, a marmalade maker's paradise.

Quite honestly pretty much anywhere with sunshine, and a beautiful vista would do right now!

I have left my bungalow, travelled 60 miles with my three
grandchildren in my younger granddaughters car. We are in
New Quay, West Wales. We are walking on the pier watching the waves hitting the pier and feeling the spray . I have booked the holiday cottage where their grandfather, mother,
aunt and I holidayed. This afternoon we will look around the
crystal shop, then walk on the beach where I will remember
lying on the sand and my husband proposing to me. We
will go out on a boat to watch the dolphins. This evening we
have dinner at the Wellington Inn and then walk again on
the pier.

If I weren’t here DH and I would walk along the cliff tops on our way to a special little cove in Ibiza . I would have my back pack filled with everything we needed for the day and DH would hold my hand as we scrambled over the rocks down to the shore. I would remove my sandals and walk in the sea as we made our way along the beach . I would be holding onto my straw hat as the breeze caught me.

Heaven .

If I weren't here....I'd revisit the bluebell woods I was taken to as a child, sit against a mossy tree trunk and look up through oak leaves to a blue sky. There'd be a carpet of bluebells (Yes, I know they're not out yet, but I'm dreaming). I'll have the sketch pad and BB pencil I carried everywhere as a teenager and there would be nothing but the gentle rustle of leaves and glimpse of the occasional roe deer. Then I'd wake up and be sitting at the table writing this
