Be allowed to see my granddaughter. Her mother has used the crisis as an excuse to stop her seeing her dad and us. The poor child has been terrified out of her wits by them and she seems only to get to watch the updates about it on TV.

She would be safer in this house from the virus as I am working from home and granddad no longer works

But for the vast majority of us it is an inconvenience, a pain, a period of even greater isolation for some, but surely more than worth any sacrifice?
Like everybody else I may not see any of my family until June (is that 12 weeks?) or even longer , but my mother left her parents behind in Germany when she came to the UK in 1947 without knowing if she would ever see them again. My half- sister left her family and her husband’s family behind when they emigrated to Canada in the 60’s with 3 small children . They would not be able to afford to come back to visit for 4 years and my parents had to make do with weekly airmail letters.
The people I do really feel for are those with life limiting or terminal illnesses who may be worried they will not be around to enjoy their last years with their children and grandchildren

Well, people will have to do what needs to be done. If that means not mingling for much longer than 12 weeks, so be it.
I certainly don't relish the thoughts but I make the most of what I can do, as do many.

Gabriella why do you think that it's 12 weeks "at most"? That's the timescale suggested at present, but this thing is by no means conquered, nor the timescale certain. It it quite possibly mutating as we type, and will almost certainly be with us forever.

Maybe not everything they like, but certainly much of what they need to assuage hunger.
This is just my opinion and it doesn't have to chime with other views. That would be boring.
When this is over, pe everyone values that which they had to forgo this is over

I could (but can't) understand. It's not as if we're doing a 5 year jail sentence. At must, it's 12 weeks of keeping to some rules for our own safety/ health. For many it won't even be that long.
Surely facetime and phone calls can suffice in the interim, for those that have internet connection which must be everyone here.
As for going hungry...there are foodbanks and aid boxes and most areas have aphone number where that aid is available.
As an aside, the people talking about cruises, booking holidays, days out, family meals in restaurants, theatre visits and even fish n chips with friends, are not going without food, nor those who have shopped online. Maybe not keeverythinke*likkekklhvhhxfcvbnkeke

GabriellaG54, these are uncertain times, and for some, sad though it is, they might not see their loved ones again. As for not being in jail, well there are people who struggle with anxiety and depression, and this enforced isolation and limit on our movements will be incredibly difficult for them. You are fortunate as it seems as if you are able to cope with the present situation really well, and that is wonderful. Others are finding it much more difficult, miss their families and being able to go about their daily lives in the way before all this hit us and need compassion, not criticism. If they can focus on what they are looking forward to doing once this is all over, then that is a good thing and not to be ridiculed.

GabriellaG54, I think you have totally misinterpreted the point of this thread. I know because I initially began thinking like you, then I realised, well how do I know if these people will be around...Will I be around to feel the full force of COVID19. It is predicted to happen; if it will indeed happen- who knows? So, don't be negative. Why don't you try to be a little understanding for those who live in hope, and just wish to have happy daydreams. Again I reiterate the point made by downtoearth, how do you if any of us are going hungry?

Get together with family and friends. Keeping in touch is a blessing but seeing them and hugging loved ones is what I want to do most.

Well Gabriella after losing two daughters bringing up my grandaughter,I havent been on holiday for 16 years.

Well, I miss my family like hell.

I am going to kiss my new granddaughter, born 2 days ago. Going to kiss her big sisters and her mum too.

Hopefully we will also be able to visit our other DD and family in the USA, a trip planned but now postponed.

By some of the comments on here, you'd honestly think that some of the posters hadn't seen family or been in holiday for years.
We're not in jail. It won't last for years yet one would think you had been massively deprived in a segregated unit, to read some of the outpourings. No-one has gone hungry, no-one who usually holidays at least once a year, will forgo future holidays.
Reading this thread, you'd be forgiven for thinking that families had been forced apart for decades.

I'll still practice safe distancing and no hugs until a greater time than the enforced lockdown is imposing.
To suddenly go from no touching and strict hygiene to swarming over, hugging and kissing and going about in crowds is, IMO, foolish.
Think of this simile.
When one has been off food for a while due to a bug, you don't, when the restrictions are lifted, then go stuffing yourself with cake, ice-cream and all the foods previously denied.

So looking forward to cuddling my grandchildren. They change so quickly, and I am missing watching them grow.
I tell you one thing, when this is all over, trying to make a hairdressing appointment will mean a long, long wait.

Italy.

Go to the UK for a month to spend time on Lindisfarne, visit Whitby for some amazing fish and chips and house hunt on the Isle of Skye so that we can return home. France is lovely but nothing replaces seeing the Cullins looking pink in late autumn sunsets.

Go to the USA to meet my new grandchild. Sadly I should have been there for the birth.

Cuddle my daughter , go and see my sister and brother in Birmingham and see my friends, in that order?. I can’t wait ?

Visit my mum, siblings and friends (a short plane ride away).
Eat in a fabulous restaurant I discovered just before the madness happened.
Write a book of recipes for my daughter and grandkids. This nonsense has certainly inspired me to remember how much I love to cook and bake.
And rekindle my fwb relationship ?

See my grandchildren, take them to the park, have them staying here.

Go to the pub on Saturday evenings, see the local live music.

Book a table at a nice restaurant for mine and my husband's birthday (both April), take the family with us.

Book a holiday for our Ruby wedding anniversary (May, booked but now cancelled)

Meet my friend for coffee and cake

Resume my Zumba classes

Get a dog. I’ve wavered over this decision for a while. Now shielding for 3 months. Wish I’d got one before!
