Special Gifts

As a child at home and at Sunday School I was taught that everyone has a special gift and it would eventually show up in your life. I'm still waiting for mine - has anyone got a special gift they can tell us about. I dont mean family/children but a characteristic or skill of your own.

Apparently I make exceptional vegetable soup according to my siblings!

Thank you for all the responses. It sounds as though many of these gifts involve caring for others which is great.
I spent a long time waiting for my special gift to make itself known. I thought at some stage I would emerge as a concert pianist or an Olympic something or other but no. The only thing I know how to do competently is look after others that was why I was a nurse. I still wish I was good at golf though.

My talent according to my family, all generations, is Shepherds/Cottage pie making with either beef or lamb, no-one make it better. Not sure thats much of a talent but at least they all eat well haha

I can make people laugh. My 13-year-old grandson says I crack him up, and that's praise enough for me.

I have no special gifts but I was so pleased to be told by both my sons at different times what a great childhood they had had so I must have done something right.

Very impressive Theoddbird !?

I seem to have a knack for opening screw-top jars which defeat others. It does occasionally come in useful.

Hand eye coordination . If you throw something to me and even if I am looking in the other direction I will catch it with either hand equally well . I don’t have to look at it or turn my head. I just jut out my hand and the thing is caught . Especially with my right hand as I am left handed. I impress myself with this . My husband tries to catch me out randomly throwing sweets . Catch them every time .

I'm still waiting too. smile

Wow Theoddbird, your piece is amazing.
My 'thing' seems to be organising. I organise everything and everybody, much appreciated by some, absolutely not appreciated by others. More recently I have also developed a talent for knowing when to use my talent and when to shut tfu.

Conni7 Mon 10-Feb-20 15:34:43

I don't think I'm good at anything, so I must be very modest!

MissAdventure Mon 10-Feb-20 15:43:39

I can touch my nose with my tongue.
That's it. That's all.

sodapop Mon 10-Feb-20 15:51:40

Some people think I should develop the second part of your talent Peardrop50 grin
I already have the first.

lovebeigecardigans1955 Mon 10-Feb-20 16:03:01

I'm not sure what my special gift is.
I love quizzing and can often guess the right answer which can irritate others but it's not exceptional.
My grandma said that I could be relied upon to see the funny side of things - a gift which has been sorely tested over the last decade.

Maxblank Mon 10-Feb-20 16:04:19

To the ones who say.... I haven't got a gift.

You have a special gift of motherhood or fatherhood! A great parent that inspires their children, is special.

Organizational skills, or running a household is a great skill in of itself.

Can cook something from nothing, people say .... Omg you should their roasties, or upside cake or whatever. Or I've never known anyone that can make a fishfinger sandwich taste amazing.

Can you sew and fix ... Great skill

See, the trouble is, people want an AMAZING skill, when sometimes your gift is being you, and all you do that goes unnoticed by most.

Things you do with your eyes shut, and never think about, but we're never "taught", that's a skill/gift.

The gift of kindness, is an amazing gift, and so rare these days.

Please don't be hard on yourselves for not having this "special" gift, cos you have it already.

Being able to recall information is a great gift. I lack that one majorly. My recall skills are very lacking, to the point, I struggle with stuff and forget so many things.

One of the teachers I worked with was told she had a very special gift because she had musical talent and I agree she had.
However when I went into the Staff Room and said why haven't I got a special gift/talent I was told that I definitely had one.My Gift turned out to be that I lowered the tone of the Staff Room beautifully!
Still proud to know I used to make them laugh.

smile I think that's what I do too - without meaning to.

NumNum Mon 10-Feb-20 18:47:35

What a fabulous post!! I'm still trying to decide what my Special Gift is and I could be some time!!!!! smile

Llamedos13 Mon 10-Feb-20 19:14:44

Miss Adventure, that is a special talent.I wonder how many of you tried it? I did and failed.

MissAdventure Mon 10-Feb-20 19:16:53

Thank you. I have a ridiculously long tongue, and a very quite big nose. smile

Evie64 Mon 10-Feb-20 19:44:29

OMG! Theoddbird, that's amazing! I paint glass to give as gifts to friends and family. Usually candle holders, wine glasses, that sort of thing. Approaching retirement now, so who knows what new talents I might find I have given the time?

Shizam Mon 10-Feb-20 19:51:06

That’s so funny re the parking. Always said my niche skills are parallel parking, pulling horses’ manes and cleaning tack. It’s an interesting CV. ?
