My Mother, in fact all my family, loved him instantly.
All down to his gorgeous soft Irish accent.
Farage, Reform, their plans, why bother?
When they first met your husband/wife?
My mum always had a love/hate relationship with my ex.
Apparently he took great big steps all around her living room (one of her reasons!)
My Mother, in fact all my family, loved him instantly.
All down to his gorgeous soft Irish accent.
My Mum just adored him, Dad was a bit slower, his must protect daughter kind of hung around a bit too long, but eventually mellowed.
My parents really liked my DH right from the start. My DH went to my Dad for advice, as his own father had very strict and Victorian ideas!
My ex instantly got on with my dad - they had interests in common.
My mum never actually said that she didn't like him, even when we split up, but my ex always maintains that she didn't like him from their first meeting !
My mother fancied the pants off him but luckily he wasn't interested. Dad offered me money not to marry him, but admitted many years later that I was right, he's been a good husband.
My parents loved DH, the son they never had, in fact probably a lot more than they cared for me.
DH was very mild mannered and never ever swore in front of my parents.
When our DC were young we had a chance of going to live and work in Canada but mother made such a song and dance that we put our plans on hold.
H & M please note some of us consider our families and give in to pressure
My mother in law thought I was a hunchbacked Jewish Cockney. I came from Kent and was VERY nervous. After we married I always tried to keep a free County between us ;)
My mum adored mine she seemed to like him more than me at times.Dad was different it took longer as I was a daddies girl and an only child.
They loathed my ex (quite rightly!) and because my mum thought I was a bad judge of character, refused to accept DH2, even though MIL was one of her best friends.
Liked his company but didn't like the way he treated me. They were right.
With an ex they didnt say much to me other than mum thinking his job wasnt good enough, however he knew they didnt like him!!
He was an engineer. When we met he was working at the local mine (yorkshire). Ironically doing the family tree I found that Mums not very distant ancestors worked as miners including a 7 year old ?
She died before I met Mr Riggie. He has a degree and a white collar office based job so she would possibly have approved. However in a former life he was a gold miner so Im not sure how well that would have gone down, even though he was managerial level!!
My mother thought the sun shone out of DH's a...... Thought he was perfect (he's not)
My MIL was, I think, always a little wary of me, heaven knows why. She was a bit dotty but could often make cutting remarks.
My father sadly didn’t meet my husband but he would have liked him a lot I know! They are very alike in some ways. My father comes into my husbands dreams sometimes and there’s always a detail my husband couldn’t know about . Fascinating.
My parents liked my first husband - but saw me as a "problem child". That hubby turned out to be an abuser - Mum said that "must be my fault!".
Divorced 9 years later (separated after three).
Haven't asked since - now twice widowed and re-married again. All marriages after that first one were happy. Those that ended in widowhood were fifteen years long. Current marriage now over five years and we are still very happy.
Both parents long since deceased.
Neither of my parents liked my first husband - something I only discovered when I left him! Both of them liked the second - which proves their character judgment wasn't that great, but neither lived long enough to see my second divorce.
They both loved my sons though, so they got that right!
They were confused!
From The South - must be Posh
An engineer - they lie under cars don't they?
Actually a graduate eng and software pioneer. But not posh background. They learned to be tolerant.
They didn't like him and refused to contribute to the wedding or even attend it. My in laws put on the wedding for us and my father in law gave me away. At the time I was terribly upset but time passed and they eventually came to like and respect him. We have now been married 52 years.
Dad really liked him but Mum not keen. That was because he was very sensible & saw her for what she was-selfish & self- obsessed. He & Dad got on really well. Mum moved out!!
My mother "sniffed" pointedly in a disapproving way every time she saw my husband from the first time she met him which was marginally better from when she met my first boyfriend and referred to him as the "something" on the doorstep.
She has undermined, disapproved and generally been unkind about my poor DH for the last 27 years so you can imagine my surprise when just before Christmas she suddenly started talking about how lovely he was and how pleased she was that I had met him. It has been a source of amusement to us ever since because he has suddenly become a Saint in her eyes.
My parents always told me my room was there for me when I came to my senses.
I simply adore both my sons in law, they make my daughters so very happy they can do no wrong in my eyes
Mine had long hair and a car which I made him park down the road so mum and dad didn’t know.
My mother initially took against as I'd been going out with someone else for a couple of years and she adored him. i'm afraid I kept going with both of them for a couple of months but then opted for the one I married. I was told, after ditching the other one, that I was 'a fool to yourself' but the one I chose and I are still together after nearly 50 years so something went right.
On which, I met up again with the other one briefly about 20 years ago. Realised immediately I'd ditched the right one!
My parents liked him from the second they saw him as did all my family aunts uncles etc. Also his mum and dad. We all clicked and my mum and dad used to go on holiday with his mum and dad. He loved them all and was heartbroken when my mum died. They really got on.
My parents liked all my boyfreinds but one - my Father always said he would never make anything of himself; he retired recently, worth a great deal of money, having run a successful business for the last forty years.
They absolutely loved my DH; so much so that I began to wonder what was wrong with him! He got on well with both of them - how much easier life is in that situation.
My dad was disappointed when I finished with my first boyfriend, T - (I was 14; he was 19) - because he was an engineer like him and 'would go far'. Met hubby, E, 3 years and one or two others later and dad said 'If you marry him al you'll ever have his books!'( sounded good to me)......Dad was right on both counts - T became an oil man and a millionaire and E was a librarian. We have taken many boxes of our books with us at great expense whenever we have moved the length and breadth of the UK and still have a huge collection. Fifty two years on I wouldn't swap him for any oilman. Interestingly, both chaps had Orkney roots and T visited DH and me with his wife and child when we moved to Orkney in the early 70's. He introduced us to his aunt and uncle who became amongst our very best friends until they died about 12 years ago. My mum adored DH from day 1...
