Beales department store at risk of collapse

The Beales in Bishop Auckalnd closed a couple of years ago, along with the loss of M&S it killed Bishop Auckland town centre, its so depressing now to go there, and walk past empty shops, charity shops, phone shops and betting shops
Near by Darlington is going the same way

There was a Beales in our closest small town. It was replaced following redevelopment by ...Debenhams! And now that’s closing too. I didn’t actually realise Beales was still around. ?

Oh no, I am devastated. Although I struggle to get a table , it is so worth it.

I found myself browsing John Lewis Weekend range, the other day. Must keep off the Campari. What's next? I fear for the future.

They certainly do Auntie ?. Sometimes they have a pianist playing on a Saturday. I buy snazzie socks from there.

Daniels does seem to have bucked the trend and as you said it’s always busy.

We have had lunch in Heidi’s and often struggle to get a table.

There is a Beales store in our nearby seaside town. However, wit Debenhams just closing, along with Bon Marche and other boarded up shops, there will be nothing left in the high street.

I am not surprised; it has been in a poor state for years, low stock, few shop assistants and great difficulty in ordering anything.

In Windsor the JL Store Heelas closed a number of years back, however the old department store Daniels has invested and the store is thriving. Maybe because it is a tourist town. They have a a busy cafe with lovely pastries. There is a sushi type bar. A small cafe where a lot of mums take their children.The toy department on the top floor is great and they have both men and women’s fashions to suit all.

I think it helps that there is an entrance both at the back and the front of the store so customers are flowing in both ways.

Long may it continue.

There’s one in our nearest town, it’s already pretty much a ghost town, this will be the end of it.

It is sad, it used to be a lovely store, but really gone downhill over the last ten years or so.

I'll be sad if they go. I worked at the Poole branch for 7 years so have fond memories. There is something about department stores. I think peeps will want to head back to the shops and move a little from online. After all, you are buying a picture and it's tiresome having to return goods.

That's a shame. Fond memories of proper China cups and saucers in the Bournemouth cafe.

There's a Beales in Hexham. We bought our corner sofa unit there a couple of years ago.
This Christmas DH bought his Christmas tie there.

Just spent £16,50 on line at JL; they will be ok

Their after sales service is good too which isn’t always true of all shops.

A lot of them seem to lose interest in us once they have got our money don’t they?

The Bedford branch is clinging on and has been up for sale for some time. We lost Marks &Spencer last year. It’s very sad, especially for the elderly.

There is one in Bournemouth. Remember how I thought it was pretty swish, would be so sad if it goes.

There’s one in Kendal I go to occasionally, it will leave a big hole in the town centre if it goes. Marks and Spencer’s went a few years ago. What a shame. They sell good clothes, handbags, shoes etc etc but a bit expensive and I guess doesn’t really entice younger people although they have a Topshop or something included.

Have to confess had never heard of them until it was on the News last night.

That name Beales takes me back to early days of my marriage. I remember a hat I bought there, and a duffel coat.More and more I have to try to come to terms with changing times.I suppose we all do.
