When will I get back to normal?!

I love Christmas with all the family - but with 21 of us it goes on forever - so always after New Year we all go to the Pantomime - but now that’s all over I know what you mean - it’s getting the energy to do all the jobs that don’t get done over Christmas. I have the builders everywhere though at the moment so no dusting for me !!! Roll on February it will soon be here .

Oh I have hobbies Luckyfour, just can’t settle to them!!

I dislike the “festive” season though loved it when there were children around. Nowadays we counteract the gloom of January by heading to sunnier climes.
Sun has just risen so I’m off out.

I'm involved in our local panto, I have book clubs, choir and a variety of other interests. It's as busy this month as any other (perhaps even more so). Get yourself some hobbies and have something to look forward to.

Ah. I also find January miserable so just getting my glad rags on as going to meet my friends ( who I haven't seen since before Christmas ) in a nice country pub!

What have I been up to Grannylatte? Absolutely loads! We were on a two week cruise in October to mark my significant (ahem) birthday, which also involved travelling practically the length of the UK to get to Southampton. I also managed a weekend trip to Shropshire to visit family. Also in October my son ended up in hospital - twice - with a torn retina, cue trip to Inverness to help out. November saw my actual birthday and a big family party to organise. First week in December saw the village panto take to the stage. I’d been working on this since August and between twice weekly rehearsals and 10 straight days of set construction, performances and clear out I barely had time to draw breath! Then the reality of Christmas hit and I had two weeks to complete shopping. We had also booked a large country house for Christmas week so that the whole family could celebrate together. Heaps of organising to do there! Both of us went down with a virus over New Year and now oh has just left for Netherlands for a week. Oh and I managed to fit in a dental appointment and a barium meal last week! This week dd1 has a significant birthday and we’re all off for dinner. Phew.......exhausted after reading all that!

Well I can't settle to much either, I put it down to the Brexit stuff keeping us up in the air, and now the Royal shenannigans. There seems to be a sense of things about to happen any moment to our country.

I actually greet January with relief, I love Christmas, it is a grand family occasion, but I find that exciting as Christmas decorations are and how much I love welcoming children and grandchildren and miss them when they have gone. It is so good to dismantle everything and return to normal life.

I am enjoying just pottering around with no major event just ahead. I have pottered around and got a lot of tidying done, sorted out all sorts of little admin and house jobs that have been suspended over Christmas, and look ahead to events already planned for this year without that nagging backlog on my desk.

So now we're in 'recovery from Christmas' time and I'm quite content to coast along for now!

Bluebelle the saying relates in this instance to Christmas being a time when you would dress up a bit and eat more rich food. Can apply to being on holiday, having people stay, any occasion when you indulge and smarten up.

I don't think I'll ever be "normal" again after the election result!

I think trying to 'get back to normal' is pointless. Better to go with the flow and find new or different things to do - a new normal.

You can wait it out (the winter/early spring doldrums) by watching films on Netflix, knitting, going out with friends, long walks, decorating, anything that's not your usual routine.

I think of it as 'hibernation time'!

By the end of March, the clouds lift and you have a new energy and determination.

What were you doing for the last 3 months Katek ?

I must say the Scots are good at serving up celebrations and after the elongated New Year we have Burns Night to look forward to as well as, in my case, 2 Gransnet meetups.

I quite like January. Not much is expected so it's a time to recharge the old batteries.

I hate January I find it very unsettling and depressing. February is nearly as bad but at least it’s a bit shorter and has half term in the middle( I work part time in a school)

I love Christmas and it’s such a let down when things get quieter again and there still loads of winter left. Roll on spring I say

I always said that after a long summer break and going back to work .

I see it as meaning that over the festive season we live a different type of life.
All dressing up to go out, lots of eating out, lovely food and drink, lots of socialising.
This comes to and end and we have to go back ( well most of us) to our mundane lives for 10/11 months and it can be dull and unsettling.

January has to be one of the longest months of the year - at least it feels like it. It is hard to believe Christmas was less than three weeks ago and it’s still nearly another 3 weeks until February which is, if anything, even worse

I think it means that after wearing the glad rags and excessive eating at Christmas, it's back to simple things, especially if you are skint!

Ahh I see (no idea why old clothes and porridge have anything to do with Christmas but hey ho) well I don’t find Christmas exciting I find it very stressful so although January isn’t a favourite month cold grey and dark it tells me it’s over thankfully and the little bulbs starting to show and the thoughts of spring round the corner so I m ok with it

It's a funny time of the year. All the excitement and work involving Christmas gone. I never really like January, it seems like an inbetween month. I will be glad when Spring arrives.

I think it means all good things must come to an end, which is probably why Katek is finding it difficult to pick up the reins again!
