After a very busy 3 months I am now back to ‘aul’ claes n parritch’.........except I’m not! I cannot get settled into this new year at all, very restless and can’t settle to much. I have lots of craft projects to be getting on with as well as matters domestic so it’s not as if there’s nothing to do! Think I’m an adrenaline junkie after so much busyness!

Oh I have hobbies Luckyfour, just can’t settle to them!! smile

I love Christmas with all the family - but with 21 of us it goes on forever - so always after New Year we all go to the Pantomime - but now that’s all over I know what you mean - it’s getting the energy to do all the jobs that don’t get done over Christmas. I have the builders everywhere though at the moment so no dusting for me !!! Roll on February it will soon be here .

Aepgirl Mon 13-Jan-20 12:04:03

It’s only 13th January for goodness sake. Anyway, what is normal?

Kim19 Mon 13-Jan-20 12:06:44

I too regard this time of year as a kind of hibernation. Unfortunately Feb has an extra day this year but this may prove fortuitous for many lucky men. I'm already planning projects for when the weather improves. Have a builder coming in next Saturday to kick start process. Forward thinking and imagining certainly helps. I also try to generate more lunches than usual to while away the days. To have had no snow so far is the ultimate bonus for me. Yippee!

Rocknroll5me Mon 13-Jan-20 12:07:02

I'm completely the opposite - delirious that all that nonsense is over - all done OK 'cos that's important - but now the evenings are getting longer and the snowdrops will be peeping phew. Don't feel guilty - energy will soon come back quite of its own accord. Being bored is rich soil for growth.

I love Christmas but also enjoy the newness of January. In fact I'm always ready for the next season whatever it is. I like the differences throughout the year and try to enjoy the ride.

Just think of those of us who have birthdays in January. My daughter has her's just at the beginning of the month and mine is at the end of this week. We can always tell when we are given unwanted Christmas presents as birthday gifts! I feel like saying, if you didn't want it, why would you think I would?

However, a dear friend has a party on my birthday as it is a special biggy! So I've told everyone to play down my birthday as I don't want to steal her thunder. What's more, we all know how we're going to celebrate so it will be fun.

Yes, boredom fuels creativity. I really have to launch myself out into the cold (the dog needs her walks) but feel so much better after the exercise!

I went into my garden yesterday as the sun was out. Cheered to see crocuses in bloom and loads of buds swelling on the bushes! Spring is on the way!

moggie57 Mon 13-Jan-20 13:16:55

go hiking ? go get some fresh air than sitting indoors crafting...get out and about is a lot better.....

bridie54 Mon 13-Jan-20 13:26:36

Katek, Like you I'm a 'crafty' person but I love Christmas and New Year finishing cos then January brings the re-start of my crafty groups. Just get yourself into your crafty workspace, shut out the world, and start doing something/anything to get you going. You've certainly had a whirlwind last few months so some relaxing you time will probably do you good.

I love after xmas/January as I start planning the year ahead and making bookings for; campsites and ferry’s, theatre, cinema, gigs, meals out, visits to friends and planning what needs sorting in the garden, not to mention plans for redecorating one room or another. The very nicest thing after xmas is counting the days down until the lighter evenings finally arrive. Chin up, soon be here.

We always say "back to clogs and crowdie".

The January Blues!

I must admit to becoming rather lazy in January. It should be a time of getting on with finishing craft projects etc, when the weather outside is gloomy, but it's a month of procrastination.

Perhaps we need to hibernate to recharge our batteries after all the 'busyness' of December.

Not a good start to new year, I had my debit card scammed the other day,and have just received my new card.Went to buy on line today to find my other card, credit this time wasnt accepted,I rang the card people to be told they had blocked it as they were sure I hadnt bought the item which I was billed for,so no credit card for a few days, not only that it was the same firm who I have to say after cancelling the card last week and reporting to the Police I actually received my money back, thats not the point why do these horrid people target the older generation,I am boiling mad They had got into my other card and taken the same amount, do these people think I am some kind of charity where they can just take money from.I hope the year continues on a happier note.Wishing everyone else on GN a Happy New Year

Hi Katek, Don't worry about wearing aul claes. It's the new trendy, according to Joaquin Phoenix at the Golden Globes. Yes, I love Christmas and now look forward to Burns Night, which this year is the same day as the start of the Chinese Year of the Rat festivities. Hope everyone on here with the winter blues feels better soon.

I agree that January is a bit of a "down in the mouth" month - but look forward to longer days/lighter nights and watch for signs of spring in the garden (we have daffodils starting to show yellow heads and I'm watching for snowdrops!).

Callistemon Mon 13-Jan-20 23:58:55

Anrol I had planned an outing this evening but the gales put paid to that!

sharon103 Tue 14-Jan-20 00:11:56

Patsy429 you'll have to request money or gift cards for your birthday in future so as not to get Christmas cast offs.
Have a lovely birthday at the end of the week. flowers

Hetty58 Tue 14-Jan-20 00:22:30

Yes, too blustery to take an evening walk today (the dog wasn't interested) - but there's always cocoa and watching films on Netflix in bed. I've no energy so I'm perfecting the art of being lazy!

Katek Tue 14-Jan-20 08:51:56

I like your style Hetty58! Unfortunately if I don’t get up I shall starve as Dh is away. December birthdays are difficult I agree - ds, dd2 and Dh are all December - 4th/18th/29th. Dd1’s is this week so still quite close to festive period. Didn’t plan that very well, did I?grin

Last year my DS turned thirty, my DD married, my poor DM died and the DH and I celebrated our Ruby Wedding. The DS was also made redundant and the DD went from a secure job to a new one. We all had the shadow and terror of a hard left, Marxist government as a real prospect hanging over our heads.

I had three major stress related health issues/illnesses connected, especially, to the above wedding and funeral.

Sometimes life can be too exciting and dullness and tedium can be a relief. These January days where the DH is back to work and there is nothing but cold, darkness, housework and ennui are proving both difficult to get through but a blessed relief too.

The lightening days, the small shoots and pussy willow, the birdsong and snowdrops are all holding out hope.

I can't wait for my busy time to end, it is now into its fifth year and still hectic. My crafts are waiting for me too, one day. Sigh!

Somehow my diary has magically filled right up. I'm so confused by myself. If I have nothing planned I feel awful, lazy, useless etc but when my days are filled I yearn for a day with nothing on. confused
