i am temporarily following this issue with M&H despite being anti Royal...so could not resist putting up a new thread as things develop.
This will be a first for the Royals for sure.

There is more information appearing now on M & H
M wants to continue where she left off with her career and can now ask to be paid in eye watering amounts of money.
That is their plan
She will do it by flogging her Royal status.

Is this really allowed?
Her and H can be in an advert and then seen wearing the product.
This is what they meant by modernising the monarchy.
Tacky is an understatement.

What do others on Gransnet think?

She might pull down the whole House of Cards.

And they were not pushed they have been planning all this for over a year.

Also they have to find about being Taxed, here and in US and possibly Canada, A new world for H.

I think posters get confused with the RF and the press. If H and M were/are having mental health problems I'm sure the RF would do all they could to support them. The RF aren't the ones posting tabloid stories about them.

It wasn't my assumption Chewbacca 'twas the DM's.
Just whizzed over to Mumsnet, and it seems to me that many seem supportive of H&M but some also resent the fact that many young families struggle, whilst they, H&M can please themselves.
I have to say their posts are much wittier than on here grin.

Could it just be that Meghan has post natal depression, and Harry, having mental health issues himself, knows just how hard it is.
Many of us have had to deal with family with Mental Health problems, and should we perhaps be a little kinder, and maybe not be so taken in by the tabloids, but use a little common sense.

jolbrook I think you could be right.

I am a little puzzled as to why they are making such a drama out of this decision to leave. Surely it could have been handled differently as, we are led to believe, plans for their exit were already on the table? Plans could have been finalised and then an announcement made by the Palace. Was their instagram announcement meant as some subtle form of leverage. Give us a good deal or we sit on Oprah's sofa?

Wonder if he will go to Sandringham tomorrow, face his
grandmother,father and brother , I doubt it.

timetogo2016 Sun 12-Jan-20 11:15:15

She playing a good game on the back of H and the family.
They should never have married.
That`s just my opinion and I am gutted for our wonderful Queen and the family.

EMMF1948 Sun 12-Jan-20 11:12:05

Her intentions were clear on their wedding day, the lone walk up the steps, look at me not any flower girls, page boys, even a bouquet. She has played him like a strad from the very start and he is so emotionally fragile that he fell for it.
I do hope that when the day comes his brother will be there for him, he's going to need it, the old song 'I'm going to be around to pick up the pieces' will never have been more appropriate.

Millennials are a lot more at ease with the culture of celebrity than baby boomers. They probably can't see what all the fuss is about.

quizqueen Sun 12-Jan-20 11:04:05

I've said it before, I have no problem with H and M leaving and not 'doing their duty' but all funding should be withdrawn from the end of January, although they didn't have the grace to give a month's resignation notice! I very much doubt that Meghan, or indeed Archie, will ever set foot in this country again. I wish the press would stop giving so much space to their antics or what Meghan is wearing. Best thing now is to pay no attention to them at all.

Did none of the family or staff not notice that they took their dogs with them on their '6 week break' or didn't bring Archie back? Surely both of those facts were a real give away as to their intentions. They don't need Frogmore any longer, so maybe it could be kept for Charlotte. They could just have a room allocated for them at Buck Palace where they can be kept an eye on, if they need accommodation in this country on any visits.

grin Callistemon

JenniferEccles Sun 12-Jan-20 10:58:35

Wouldn’t you love to be a fly on the wall at Sandringham on Monday...... a fly with its phone on record of course?!!

Callistemon Sun 12-Jan-20 10:48:06

Was it Jon Culshaw?

Chewbacca Sun 12-Jan-20 10:47:51

I'm not sure your assumption that the Millennium generation are backing H&M's decision Greeneyedgirl; at least not from what I've read on Mumsnet, which has a younger demographic than Gransnet.

tickingbird Sun 12-Jan-20 10:45:58

I have just seen a video of Prince Harry telling the Head of Disney that 'she' does voiceovers. It's not fake and you can hear quite clearly. He's touting for work for his wife! Just unbelievable.

tickingbird Sun 12-Jan-20 10:43:38

Chewbacca At least NBC have got it right.

ladymuck Sun 12-Jan-20 10:42:46

So all those who were accused of 'Meghan bashing' were right about her. Marrying Prince Harry was all part of her grand plan, but will it really further her career? If she doesn't have the talent, it may all come to nothing.
Victoria Beckham was given her own chat show, simply on the back of her celebrity status. It was a failure, because she just doesn't have the personality for it. Something similar may happen to this lady.

Callistemon Sun 12-Jan-20 10:42:41

Am I bucking the trend then?

Although I do think that their manners towards their family were appalling.
But then, I am too old to be a baby boomer (just).

Greeneyedgirl Sun 12-Jan-20 10:38:03

According to that well respected source..sic...The Daily Mail, their poll shows that more Milleniums back H&M's decision, whilst many baby boomers (us?) do not.
Do you think this demographic interpretation is true? Are the older generation just wanting to hang on to the status quo, and is GN just running true to form, as usual?

Chewbacca Sun 12-Jan-20 10:36:32

NBC News in America has this today:
LONDON — It was a thunderbolt announcement that lays plans for an unprecedented relationship between the British monarchy and two of its younger royals.
To hear them tell it, Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, plan to distance themselves from the taxpayer-funded comfort of the monarchy and brave it in the real world. Senior members of the royal family are to meet Monday to discuss their future roles.

On closer inspection, the "new progressive role" they want to pursue would appear to have them benefit from millions of dollars bankrolled by the British public — while walking away from many obligations traditionally tied to that life.

tickingbird Sun 12-Jan-20 10:34:06

I think it will be interesting to see how next Thursday goes when Harry has to be at some event.

tickingbird Sun 12-Jan-20 10:32:49

That law does exist. It was in the papers the other day and I wondered if that was the reason Archie wasn't brought back but I don't believe that right would be exercised in this case. Archie isn't anywhere near the succession.

I think they should let them go but strip them of the titles so they can't use SussexRoyal to make money. As long as they aren't embarrassing the Queen anymore why should we care?

Anniebach Sun 12-Jan-20 10:28:40

Archie is a British and American citizen!

GrannyLaine Sun 12-Jan-20 10:25:24

While that prerogative may exist, I think that's perhaps a bit of a stretch of the imagination Chewbacca even for the royal family. I would say its a very sensible move to keep the baby as far away as possible from all the press hoo haah.

Callistemon Sun 12-Jan-20 10:25:05

The Royal Family will survive this.
He's not the direct heir or even heir but one.
It survived the abdication, didn't it?

Crikey, anyone would think that Harry and Meghan and little baby Archie were vital to the succession.

It will all settle down again.

In the meantime, who is going to be responsible for overseeing the Queen's Commonwealth Canopy? I am quite concerned about that. In the long term, trees and the survival of the planet are more important than Harry and Meghan.
