This is the hole where my diamond was last time I looked at my hand.
Just say diwn to watch Deadwater fell and my engagement ring felt spikey - No diamond!

I am sooo sad - I keep saying it’s only stuff... but I’m so sad!

My engagement and eternity ring were stolen, I was heartbroken, our insurance company paid out, but the replacement doesn’t feel as precious to me as the first.

A signet ring I was given by my godmother when I was christened at 5 (64 years ago) went missing when we moved 14 months ago, I found it about a month later in a rubber glove.

I do hope you find it. I took my ring to the jewellers a few years ago and he told me the claws were so worn he was surprised I still had the diamonds. It was a wake up call.

Tigertooth I feel for you and hope you come across it. I thought I had lost a much loved watch this week - I knew I had put it in my bag to have a new battery fitted, but then couldn’t find it. After turning the house out, I emptied my handbag for the third time and just as I was about to give up, felt something heavy inside the lining. It took a while to find the hole it had fallen through, but there it was. Don’t give up.

When I lost the stone in my ring I took it and had it reset, looked as good as new. I also claimed on my insurance. Good luck

Very sorry to hear this as it is so upsetting. I keep thinking I ought to take more care with mine but usually forget. My mother had hers stolen and I remember she was devastated.

When I used to lose a contact lens, back in the days when they were the hard type, I used to put a bit of tights/stocking/popsock material over the pipe of my vacuum cleaner and hoover where I thought I lost it. It would usually come to light stuck to the material. I suppose it will be a long job to do the entire house but it might be worth it! Good luck.

Oh Tigertooth I feel for you. Retrace all your steps since you put it on. Did you go out in the garden? To the bin/recycling/compost? In the car - footwell? Check inside gloves, by the bed, sink, etc.
Yesterday I found I was wearing the back fastening of one earring - the front was found on the bathroom floor. That doesn't matter, it was cheap plastic but yours is different. I do hope you find it soon.

I lost my engagement ring many moons ago. It originally belonged to DH’s grandma. I have spent years looking for a similar ring but to no avail.

Tigertooth, I do hope you manage to find the missing diamond and to get your ring repaired.

I expect the spikes of the setting on the ring will be awkward and catch in things at the moment. You could try getting the ring off using this method, which worked like magic for me.

Take a length of dental floss and tuck one end under your ring, on the hand side. This should be long enough to get a firm hold of. Then wind the other part of the floss around your finger, over the knuckle and towards your fingertip as tightly as you can. Get hold of the end which went under your ring and unwind it (don't just pull or it'll cut into your finger). Continue to unwind the floss from the top and the ring should slide over your knuckle. Good luck!

This happened to me too and I felt awful. It was my birthday and I went for takeaway and realised that one of the sapphires was missing from my engagement ring.
Outside the shop was lots of broken glass, so DD and I got down on our knees to search, but nothing.
When we got home, we searched the driveway, but nothing, I was in tears. It wasn't the monetary value, it was what it represented.

I was so fed up at my birthday being spoiled, I opened up a bottle of Cava which a colleague had given me, and at the bottom of the gift bag was the missing sapphire!
I was so lucky as the jeweller who repaired the ring said that it would have been very difficult to match the missing saphire with the one which was left.
I had to get a whole new setting, as I had obviously caught the ring on something.

Please don't give up hope. If you only noticed it whilst at home, that's probably where you lost it.
Good luck!

Can imagine how you feel. Really hope it turns up.

gmarie Fri 10-Jan-20 23:24:41

Sure hope it turns up. Keep us posted! Lots of good suggestions on here that I've tucked away for the next time one of my gem stud earrings goes missing!

Lost my wedding ring and even though I replaced it straight away with another exactly the same model, I knew it was not the same because of the sentimental value of course! But I don't let myself dwell on such things.

leyla Fri 10-Jan-20 23:18:20

Hope you find it. Let us know!

TrendyNannie6 Fri 10-Jan-20 23:10:49

Hope you find it

Vac everywhere, then empty the dust bag onto newspaper.

Callistemon Fri 10-Jan-20 22:38:07

Check through the Christmas decorations too

Callistemon Fri 10-Jan-20 22:37:01

If you do find it, and I hope you do, try to take it off and take it to a reputable jeweller to reset it.

If they have to cut it off, they can make it larger by inserting an extra piece (you can't see it).
I had mine made larger, now need it made smaller again as it slips around.

Otherwise you could have another diamond put in, not quite the same but better than nothing.

Check through any laundry from washing machine and tumble dryer.
Unbeknown to me I must have somehow caught my gold bracelet whilst taking washing out of machine and found it in between wet washing.
Also check inside washing and tumble dryer machines and the rubber collar on washing machine.
And check dishwasher.

Goodluck shamrock

Thanks all?will definitely try the lights out and torch. I’m pretty sure it happened indoors although I did take the bins out so will empty those tomorrow. And to crown it all my fingers are so fat now that I can’t get it off!

DillytheGardener Fri 10-Jan-20 22:12:04

Oh tiger tooth. It is of great sentimental value to you, which of course makes it very important. I’m so sorry it has done a bunk.
It is worth giving a plumber a call, as other posters have mentioned, an old work colleague found hers this way.

Newquay Fri 10-Jan-20 22:11:34

Aw-DH lost his wedding ring a while ago-tried everything including local detectorists-no joy!
Our golden wedding shortly so will replace it then!

Auntieflo Fri 10-Jan-20 22:10:24

This happened to me once.
We were in a restaurant and I realised that my diamond was missing. Some of the staff crept around carpets and I searched the loo. Then when we got home, I put my hand into my jacket pocket, and there it was, right in the corner.
Although I had it repaired, I now wear just a costume jewellery ring most of the time.
I do hope that you find yours, soon.

Hetty58 Fri 10-Jan-20 22:07:08

Check the place where you last got changed or took off your coat.

In case it went down the sink etc. put an old sieve under the drain outlet (from wherever you last washed your hands) then turn lots of water on.

Check your floors (and hoover contents) thoroughly - you never know, it may turn up!

Doodle Fri 10-Jan-20 22:04:03

Try looking round the house at night. Turn all the lights off and use a torch to see if it catches the light reflected in the diamond.
So sorry for you. Hope you find it.
