... and planning to be financially independent.
?

Fergie has never sold her story, never done a doe eyed tv interview telling the world she is a saint,

oldgimmer1 Sat 11-Jan-20 09:44:48

Jennifer I doubt she had any idea of what being a working royal means.

She would have needed to out duty before everything and fit in with some pretty ridiculous, anachronistic traditions.

She probably thought she was bringing a breath of fresh air with her and that she could change the RF to suit herself.

That's not going to happen.

Other women coming into the RF such as Diana and Fergie - did not succeed. The only women who seem to survive are those who stick their heads down, put up and shut up.

This is families though-----biting the hand that feeds them. No matter who they are, they'll do their own thing and pass you no compliments. They're usually brats !

H has never been known for his brains..

harrigran Sat 11-Jan-20 09:40:46

Second son is someone elses love child, I don't accept that and neither will the RF, there will have been DNA checks done.
I can not accept that Harry is letting a two bit actress dictate the odds either, surely he has more common sense than that.

I’m sad Harry and Meghan don’t feel they can carry on as senior royals. I thought they could have done a lot of good.

I’m sad they don’t have the same ethos of duty and service as the Queen.

I’m sad about the way they handled this, without respecting the Queen.

In the end it is up to them, and I hope they will find fulfilling lives with satisfying work, and will build a strong family of their own.

annsixty Sat 11-Jan-20 09:37:06

Her ex H and former friends say she never stuck at any thing for long.
As soon as things weren’t to her satisfaction she bolted.

I feel so sorry for everyone in this situation.

JenniferEccles Sat 11-Jan-20 09:36:54

I would be interested to know when this plan started.

Was it in Meghan’s mind right from the start of their relationship?
Did she have no intention of being a working royal ?

Maybe though it’s unfair to solely blame her though.Perhaps Harry has dreamed for years of getting out and in Meghan, saw his means of escape.

Curlywhirly Sat 11-Jan-20 09:36:38

I also don't think she has any intention of coming back soon - I believe they even took both dogs to Canada, where they remain. One of the dogs, Meghan's before she met Harry, looks old, and I don't believe as an animal lover, Meghan would put it through several long flights back and forth; Canada is obviously going to be their main residence.

merlotgran Sat 11-Jan-20 09:31:44

I think he does give a toss, Annie. He's in turmoil. He faces a life apart from his country, his family (he already seems to have lost his friends) and the life he has always known.

Growing up in an environment where he's been allowed to be petulant and rash and suddenly finding out he can't stamp his foot and get his own way any more must have come as a shock.

My sympathies are also with the Queen and she's probably very worried about him as well as being sad about how things have turned out.

oldgimmer1 Sat 11-Jan-20 09:30:56

vegan I think HMtQ would always put The Firm first.

That's the only way the RF has always survived.

I'm wondering whether the Q has had more to do with this than is being said.

I think she'd be quite happy to chuck Meghan - and Harry by default - under a bus if it meant the survival of the RF.

Maybe Hand M jumped before being pushed - who knows?

ExD1938 Sat 11-Jan-20 09:25:34

What about the Queen's mental health? It must be tearing her in bits!
(just imagining how I'd feel if my own grandson behaved like this).

merlotgran Sat 11-Jan-20 09:24:33

Basically, She's left him!!

Dress it up however you like but leaving Archie in Canada and then flying straight back leaving Harry to sort out the mess means he has no choice but to go and live in Canada or lose his son.

He may have already left, he may be in Outer Mongolia for all we know but I doubt they will ever return as a couple.
Not stripping them of their titles leaves the door open for Harry should they split up.

Sorry but I don't buy any of the 'Just trying to make their own way' theories. This is Meghan's fait accompli. Harry has no choice but accept it.

Anniebach Sat 11-Jan-20 09:21:07

One family member

vegansrock Sat 11-Jan-20 09:14:17

What is more important - a) royal protocol or b) the mental health and happiness of family members?
The Queen must decide.
I think her decision might surprise some of you who are putting the boot in.

Anniebach Sat 11-Jan-20 09:04:56

The Queen has dedicated her life to duty , the country and the commonwealth.

So sad as she is in the latter years of her reign she has a grandson who doesn’t give a toss for her life of dedication.

JenniferEccles Sat 11-Jan-20 08:45:40

Just when the poor Queen thought she had put maybe the worst year behind her......

annsixty Sat 11-Jan-20 08:39:26

The rumours abound this morning.
The most positive one to me is that they are getting help from the Obamas. They seem to me to be a well grounded, sensible and mature couple although they are making oodles of money from books, appearances and other publicity opportunities.
Perhaps this is what the young couple intend to do.
Others are, Meghan has signed up with Disney to do voice overs, they already have a publicity machine set up and Meghan will never return.
We shall see in the fullness of time.
My sympathies still lie with troubled Harry and the baby in the middle of this sorry tale and of course HM and Prince Charles, when a member of the family goes against you it is heartbreaking for all.

NotSpaghetti Sat 11-Jan-20 08:38:31

I read on a US website yesterday that they have branded "Sussex Royal" to use the royal connections if they lose their titles and that they had done a "voiceover deal" with Disney. No idea if this is true but they have lodged the Sussex Royal brand protecting multiple categories (caps, shirts, books, stationary, china etc).

I suppose this would lead to financial independence very quickly. The commercial route would be paved with gold for this celebrity couple.

sodapop Sat 11-Jan-20 08:32:25

A senior officer of the Grenadier Guards will be taking the place of Prince Andrew merlotgran it has been confirmed. They are not releasing his name for security reasons.

Bridgeit Sat 11-Jan-20 08:25:34

Very few members of my family look alike, apart from fleeting resemblances.(apparently)
In my own family we can pick out an eye colour from Great Aunty/Uncle so & so, one may have the same ear shape as a man I never knew who lived several streets away , another is short, another considered very tall compared ( to whom?)
Do you not think that tests would have been carried out if there were doubts???
Prince Charles seems happy in the company of both his Sons.
And I wish them well.
I wish the speculation would stop , but of course sadly it never will, that’s the nature of many folks.

tickingbird Sat 11-Jan-20 07:38:39

itsnotme What utter tosh.

vegansrock Sat 11-Jan-20 06:25:03

When the Queen goes the whole dysfunctional family should be shipped off somewhere. Off with their heads!

Itsnotme Sat 11-Jan-20 05:58:05

I don’t like Megan either. She naïvely came into the RF, not realising what she was getting into, had no idea of the hot house it is. She probably thinks she’s in a tv show or movie, doesn’t take being a royal seriously. Thinks she can marry, get the trophy, be manipulative and do what she likes as Americans have far different values to us. I do think Harry married the wrong girl,

But maybe he married her to get a get out card. After all, we all all know he’s not royal blood, he’s Hewitts child. He’s the spitting image of him.

So I think they should run off together, but not on our expense, they should be out of the royal family altogether so this pretence can stop.

hollysteers Sat 11-Jan-20 02:33:47

It’s a mistake for the Sussex duo to think stepping back will ease their perceived problems. One only has to remember the clamour around Princess Diana when she did the same, it created even more ‘hunting’. Like Garbo, who wished to be left alone, the fascination for her increased.
Earlier in this thread, someone compared Harry to George V!
? His idea of an ideal day was attending to his extensive stamp collection and going to bed at 10.
Re the oft repeated Hewitt connection. Harry, to me, looks SO like Sarah, Diana’s sister, features and colouring and the Spencers are known in aristocratic circles to have ‘bad blood’, sorry about that, but there you go. Although not a Spencer, Diana’s mother was called “a bolter”, fleeing (today’s parlance) her husband AND children. Her own mother testified against her in court as unfit, cripes! One might even regard the sainted Diana as a bolter. I think the Spencer line throws up some bad ‘uns, as in every family.
Well as the Queen Mother used to say “Toodle pip, old fruits and down with the Nazis!”
