... and planning to be financially independent.

Fenton95 __do you know them,? are you not also making assumptions as to their thoughts based on media info? Different opinions are the basis of debate the only nastiness I can see is your attitude to those who's opinion differs from yours.

lavenderzen Wed 08-Jan-20 21:21:55

You know all of this Merlot do you. You make presumptions every time you post. Shame on you.

Cherrytree59 Wed 08-Jan-20 21:21:25

Seems Harry has forgotten all about Royal Protocol.

I'm sure Her Majesty 'is not amused'

ladymuck Wed 08-Jan-20 21:20:02

It doesn't come as a surprise. They have been half-hearted about their public appearances, so they are just doing the decent thing and stepping back.

However, they are both used to being in the limelight, so I shouldn't be at all surprised if they miss all the attention.

merlotgran Wed 08-Jan-20 21:18:19

It's not ignorance, Fenton just exasperation.

Harry has a duty to support the Queen. Without the monarchy he would not have had such a privileged life. The public took him to their hearts after the death of his mother, instantly forgiving him for any misdemeanours and thoughtless pranks. Everyone wanted him to be happy and rejoiced at his wedding.

Many of us thought Meghan would be a breath of fresh air and hoped she would soon find her feet. It's not our fault she had no intention of listening to the advice of people like Michelle Obama who suggested 'watching and learning' for the first year. It soon became clear that she wanted it all her own way and Harry is so in her thrall he will do anything she wants.

The alternative of course is that maybe this is all Harry's idea and Meghan is inwardly seething. grin

Annibach typical lack of respect.

SirChenjin Wed 08-Jan-20 21:16:09

I agree Anniebach. They’ll keep the Royal connection in order to grow their brand and make money out of it whilst avoiding the tedious royal duties. I wonder what Hello pays for royal photos these days?

Anniebach Wed 08-Jan-20 21:13:58

Seems they announce it before telling the Queen and the family.

Ohmother Wed 08-Jan-20 21:13:16

She seems like one of those partners that cuts the other off from their own identity and all they know. Then can manipulate to use as required. She’s not good at relationships as she’s proved that with her own dysfunctional family.

Cherrytree59 Wed 08-Jan-20 21:10:56

Is the announcement via Instagram also informing The Queen and Prince Charles of the Sussex future plans???

Fenton95 Wed 08-Jan-20 21:09:03

Some of the comments on this thread demonstrate exactly why if I were in their position I would do exactly the same.

Nasty and unpleasant about people you really don't know. How ignorant.

I wish them every happiness.

merlotgran Wed 08-Jan-20 21:05:17

Just think....All that lovely money still pouring in and not have to do a thing for it. No boring speeches, ribbon cutting, meeting people who don't interest you, being nice to foreign dignitaries who offend your 'woke' principals, walkabouts, curtseying, being expected to wear the same outfit twice and horror of horrors, having to travel on commercial airlines rather than a private jet.

No wonder she's smiling.

Grandma70s Wed 08-Jan-20 21:04:43

I think she is no loss to the RF, but I do worry for Harry, who in many ways seems a bit of a lost soul.

On the whole I agree with Anniebach and Merlotgran.

Mommawolf Wed 08-Jan-20 20:59:50

Diana was very young and vulnerable Megan is older and came from a Hollywood lifestyle where press intrusion is a daily game had they given themselves a bit more time to educate her as to what she was getting into and the lifestyle changes it would bring she may have coped better. I can understand her feeling trapped but she is not a child she knows how the media works and what she was getting into with the press, can't have it both ways.

merlotgran Wed 08-Jan-20 20:57:25

I agree about the added burden on William and Kate. Harry may not be as major a player as his brother but he undertook royal duties before his marriage. After that he just trailed along behind Meghan.

It's a bit like the abdication only not as serious. The dutiful brother v the selfish one.

Cherrytree59 Wed 08-Jan-20 20:55:06

It will be interesting to see in a few years time, if Archie attends school in U.S. or Canada.

annsixty Wed 08-Jan-20 20:54:19

I wonder if she will go back to acting,
I read she has kept in touch with her agents and contacts, of course this may or may not be true.

merlotgran Wed 08-Jan-20 20:52:23

We don’t actually know that there is a rift.

Yes we do. Harry said as much in his interview with Tom Bradby.

ineedamum Wed 08-Jan-20 20:49:14

Didn't they brand the Sussex name- it must have been with this in mind. I agree Anniebach she can do what she wants now using the name. She wants it all her way

Anniebach Wed 08-Jan-20 20:44:37

If they have their own charities and not as royals they can
have a Salary from the charities.

They will keep Frogmore , Charles can give them money from
The Duchy and they will be free of all the boring parts of being a royal. She can have her own brands of fashion , make
any speeches she wants .

My sympathy is with William and Kate, they take their duties
seriously and with Andrew retired and Harry working part
time much will fall on them. A heavy burden .

Summerlove Wed 08-Jan-20 20:42:15

Absolutely BradfordLass

As bad as it has been for his wife, it’s going to be so much worse for their son. Especially since so many refuse to except that so much of the criticism leveled against her has been racist in nature.

BradfordLass72 Wed 08-Jan-20 20:38:45

"....but I thought it would be fair. And that’s the part that’s really hard to reconcile.”

I remember Princess Diana saying much the same.

Prince Harry is wise to get his wife and son out of the interminable, vicious backbiting and racism before it affects them as it did his poor mother.

MerylStreep Wed 08-Jan-20 20:38:24

Sparkii
You would have to ask my friends ?

Summerlove Wed 08-Jan-20 20:29:59

sparklefizz I am just sorry that her presence has somehow managed to alienate Harry from his family after he and William have been through so much together.

We don’t actually know that there is a rift. It’s very natural the brothers would not be so tied together once they are both married.

Not everything is Meghan’s fault, even if there were a rift.

eazybee Wed 08-Jan-20 20:25:23

Just like his great-great uncle.
Poor.
