... and planning to be financially independent.
?

Callistemon Wed 08-Jan-20 22:21:11

What about the Queen's Commonwealth Canopy?
Is Harry giving up all duties or demoting himself from senior to junior?

jo1book Wed 08-Jan-20 22:20:14

Harry has millions from his Mother and she earned about 3 million from Suits. You can live well on that money, surely?
Watching her on tv tonight at the Canadian Embassy as though she was in a scene from a movie convinced me she knows no other way but to act the Hollywood star. She was never going to fit.

SirChenjin Wed 08-Jan-20 22:18:43

It can take them years to become financially independent

Not really Annie - they’re only giving up the 5% they get from the Queen grin

Calendargirl Wed 08-Jan-20 22:15:46

I thought they were going to take on a lot of Commonwealth duties. Not sure how this will pan out now.

Anniebach Wed 08-Jan-20 22:14:16

It can take them years to become financially independent, if ever with their love of the high life.

She wants to be Queen Bee and can never be here.

NanaandGrampy Wed 08-Jan-20 22:11:19

It will be much easier for her to be a ‘princess’ in Canada which seems to be how she expected to be treated.

It sounds very like cherry picking - they want the benefits but not the work ☹️

Callistemon Wed 08-Jan-20 22:09:30

I don't blame Harry and Meghan at all.
It's a good thing as we need a slimmed down monarchy.

working towards being financially independent
I wonder what they are planning?
Harry an environmental consultant?

Apparently they did not consult any members of the family.

EllanVannin Wed 08-Jan-20 22:09:25

This surely wasn't unexpected ?

grannymy Wed 08-Jan-20 22:06:54

Perhaps pervy Prince Andrew's antics has also contributed to them wanting out.........

Who wants to be associated with that?

Callistemon Wed 08-Jan-20 22:05:38

I'm not sure why Zara Tindall's driving ban for another speeding offence was a fine example of how things are reported!
It was on the TV news, a fairly factual report

As a mum of young children she really should know better than to drive so recklessly.

Urmstongran Wed 08-Jan-20 22:02:14

What was it that Harry said? What Meghan wants ........

SirChenjin Wed 08-Jan-20 21:54:30

Giving up 5%

SirChenjin Wed 08-Jan-20 21:54:00

Apparently they’re giving 5% of their income which is the amount they get from the Queen’s sovereign grant (“their Royal Highnesses prefer to release this financial tie” according to their website grin)

Apparently (no idea if it’s true, DH heard it on the radio tonight) the Canadians don’t want them because they’ll have to meet the security costs as they’re part of the Commonwealth.

Urmstongran Wed 08-Jan-20 21:53:04

Harry will outlive his usefulness in a year or two when she wants to get into politics like her role model Hillary. She'll have to give up the titles if she wants to run in the USA, not sure about Canada. I think this announcement was preemptive to try and give them the upper hand in negotiating with the Queen & Charles. Don't forget she got all the trademarks for everything Sussex so they will be peddling their services like the Clinton Foundation.

merlotgran Wed 08-Jan-20 21:49:31

grin No probs.

Mommawolf Wed 08-Jan-20 21:45:49

Merlotgran apologies post addressed to wrong handle, opps

vampirequeen Wed 08-Jan-20 21:40:54

I don't blame them one bit. They're both rich in their own rights so will have no problem living 'independently'. I just hope there isn't a nasty fight over the baby. Since the time of one of the Georges, the monarch is the legal guardian of every royal baby and, technically could demand custody.

Mommawolf Wed 08-Jan-20 21:38:12

Merlotgran I rest my case! Yes you are as entitled as any of us. As we all are to express our opinions.

SueDonim Wed 08-Jan-20 21:33:51

I don’t know all the ins and outs behind this decision but I am feeling sorry for Prince William. When his time comes, he’s going to have precious few with whom to share the burden of being king, although I imagine the monarchy will have become less important by then. Maybe that’s why he and Kate have had three children, to try and ensure that in turn, Prince George will have some support around him.

merlotgran Wed 08-Jan-20 21:33:14

she’s being accused of keeping him in her “Thrall”,

That's not what I said at all, Summerlove

Grandma70s Wed 08-Jan-20 21:30:50

Hear hear, Anniebach.

merlotgran Wed 08-Jan-20 21:30:12

I never post anything I haven't learned from a reliable source or know from historical fact, lavenderzen

And shame on you for being so rude. I am entitled to comment just as much as anyone on this thread.

Summerlove Wed 08-Jan-20 21:29:32

Mommawolf, Meghan has been accused of isolating Harry in one comment, in another she’s being accused of keeping him in her “Thrall”, a breath away from calling her abusive

How do you not see any of that as nastiness?

Grandma70s Wed 08-Jan-20 21:29:24

The Queen is not having a very happy time in her nineties, is she? Andrew, Philip’s illness, and now this. She deserves better.

Anniebach Wed 08-Jan-20 21:28:43

They are stepping back from being major royals ! So still royals with all the perks but not work.

I could respect them if they gave up their titles and all that goes with their titles.
