... and planning to be financially independent.
?

Well said Luckygirl, my thoughts entirely. The public being swayed by the tabloids and media, yet again!
I think people on this forum can be very judgemental and harsh. We simply only know what we are told and who can tell if that is correct?

Rosina Thu 09-Jan-20 09:47:00

'Usual round of hysterical nonsense in the press this morning; they may be 'forced' to pay rent for Frogmore - don't the press love the word 'forced'? It's all specualtion and hot air at the moment , but if they are choosing to lead different lives to the conventional, good for them. I imagine Harry has a decent fortune of his own - Diana left her sons millions apparently - and he is so unlikely to become King that this seems a wise move, rather than stand about handshaking and smiling for the rest of their lives.

Callistemon Thu 09-Jan-20 09:43:16

Frogmore doesn't belong to them so, unless they pay the going rate for this refurbished 'cottage' I see no reason why they should keep it on as a pied-a-terre for visits over here.
Perhaps someone else can be persuaded to rent it and we can recoup some of the money!

Luckygirl Thu 09-Jan-20 09:42:09

"Cunning - manipulative - self-centred etc." Does anyone actually know this woman? I certainly don't.

They are doing what is right for them and their family and good luck to them. Harry did not ask to be born into the RF - he did not choose to be brought up by this emotionally constipated crew. Or to see his own mother crucified by the media.

So he wants to distance himself from all that rubbish and try and bring his family up in his way and free from these emotional retards.

As to the money - he did not choose to be in a family that is awash in money; nor did he choose to be a "celebrity" and need protection. This is what being a part of the RF brings with it, and that is generated outside of them.

All this stuff about them wanting the limelight is nonsense. This is the first I have heard anything about them for months. But then I do not read trashy papers.

If we want to ditch the RF so none of them get a bean from public coffers, then so be it; but on the whole the public have shown that they want a RF, so folk like Harry will continue to be scrutinised by the media and funded by the state - again, this is not their choice, it is simply what he has been born into.

The fact that William and Kate toe the line is fine - their choice. The fact that Harry and Meghan want something different is also fine - their choice. They are free to make choices, just as we all are. Being a royal does not mean they have to forfeit that right.

Let's just give them a break and concentrate on the good things they do charity-wise. They use their celebrity for good things.

I really do not blame them for wanting a bit of normality now that they have a family. Good on them. Harry is trying to protect his little family and has that as his priority; as we all do.

I'm disappointed but not surprised. It's been on the cards since they got married. I think it's OK so long as they are self-supporting.

notanan2 Thu 09-Jan-20 09:40:43

There is awful footage of them being shown around an art gallery, Harry nodfing and smiling at least, Meghan is ignoring their poor guide and looking around her like a bored stroppy school kid.

I wish they really were leaving and no longer representing us. They are poor ambassadors. If ONLY they would go fully..

catta5 Thu 09-Jan-20 09:40:28

Well she is actress and within 2years she has got what she wants so is he really walking away from his family seems like he and her are having their cake and eating it frogmore and doing nothing he was a popular royal mucking in so now he has walked away as Meghan does not want it she will be living of his title and if it’s true William was right to suggest they should have waited but she could not get up the aisle quick enough

endlessstrife Thu 09-Jan-20 09:37:30

I liked Diana. I don’t like Meghan. I’m not particularly Royalist, but have found the series “ The Crown” very moving. None of us would want their lives if we’re honest. I know God allows these people to be in this position. In fact, even to the point the Church believes it is a ‘calling’. However, I don’t like supporting those ‘ hangers on’ as my mum used to call them. I think more of them should step down, and put taxes to much better use.

notanan2 Thu 09-Jan-20 09:34:18

They both have too short attention spans for Canada to work out for them long term too.

sallyc06 Thu 09-Jan-20 09:30:59

Good on them!

notanan2 Thu 09-Jan-20 09:30:57

I think it was completely out of order to announce this to the world without discussing beforehand with William, Charles and the Queen

Well quite, but the non working minor royal path is too well trodden for them to quietly opt for that! That wouldnt be special enough for them!

If they act like they're doing something unprecidented it'll pave the way for them to milk it in pained Dianaesque interviews for years!

GrandmaMoira Thu 09-Jan-20 09:18:32

I think it was completely out of order to announce this to the world without discussing beforehand with William, Charles and the Queen. Can you imagine in an ordinary family if someone wants to cut off their mother they announce it on Twitter/Facebook and let her find out that way.

notanan2 Thu 09-Jan-20 09:15:36

Precisely Annsixty, the likes of Zara live quite private lives with no fuss or tantrums.

Harry doesnt seem to get that he is pretty much as minor as his cousins now, and is acting like an abducating king! Not just another minor royal who could have opted for a private life all along.. no tantrums required!

Anniebach Thu 09-Jan-20 09:14:39

A very cunning move.

They will live in Canada and make money using their royal
connections. We will have to pay for their security,if he was kidnapped it would cause serious problems.

They say they will carry out some duties so they keep Frogmore. They will be welcomed in countries because they
are royals and will get lots of attention.

They want a foot in both camps and will be financially secure,
Charles will have to pay up or she will give interviews telling
all as did Diana.

Yes very cunning.

notanan2 Thu 09-Jan-20 09:12:29

He found someone as childish as himself to strop off with whilst still demanding attention and money, and status, and their prescous "platform" for their "wisdom"

They remind me of a teenage couple who think they know better than us all and think we should want to hear why.

You wouldnt think these were nearly midfle aged people

annsixty Thu 09-Jan-20 09:11:38

I do realise that Meghan is getting a lot of criticism on here, some of it quite spiteful.
To be fair to all, she has asked for it.
I remember posting in the early days on this forum that she looked like the cat that has got the cream, she has never altered, we never see her without a triumphant smile on her face, look at me, look what I have, look what I have achieved.
I feel sorry for the lot of them.
The Countess of Wessex married the son of the Monarch, did she gloat and put herself forward?
No, she fitted in and is a credit to the royal family in spite of many many rumours about her H and her marriage.
Princess Margaret’s children are rarely heard of, ok very minor royals but getting on with their lives as are so many others.
Meghan got what she wanted and now she wants her old life back as well and we can pay for it.
Before the comments start I am as entitled as anyone to state my own personal opinion.

merlotgran Thu 09-Jan-20 09:05:33

I see Meghan's fawning pals are getting in on the act.

Jameela Jamil (me neither) has tweeted, 'And that, folks, is what power looks like!'

As if that's not daft enough in itself, she then follows it with a Crown emoticon. hmm

All hail the King and Queen of vacuous celebs. grin

notanan2 Thu 09-Jan-20 09:04:43

I dont think Meghan has changed Harry, I think the problem is he hasnt changed/matured at all!

It was cute and "ladish" when he didnt take royal life too seriously in his 20s. Its not so cute now that he is supposed to be a fully grown man but is still throwing tantrums if his job isnt fun or part time enough for him!

notanan2 Thu 09-Jan-20 09:02:12

They will work towards becoming financially independant hmm

How long is THAT piece of string? angry

I feel sorry for the baby. He'll grow up surrounded by A list sycophants rather with his cousins etc

Buffybee Thu 09-Jan-20 08:58:36

In my opinion both of them stepping back from Royal duties would be for the best.
Neither of them have appeared very happy when mingling with the other Royals and there is one particular photo on the balcony when Harry looks positively surly.
In my opinion Megan has spoiled the Harry we loved and changed him into someone we don’t recognise.
Thank goodness for William and Kate!

suzied Thu 09-Jan-20 08:55:01

No wonder the poor lad has emotional issues.

suzied Thu 09-Jan-20 08:54:19

There was plenty of nastiness about Diana from monarchists when she decided to tell all and give interviews about her eating disorders and marriage to Charles. There has been plenty of bitchiness on on here. I was sad for her and what she had to put up with from the emotionally cold "firm". and who can remember 12 year old Harry walking behind his mother's coffin alone without anyone holding his hand or putting an arm round his shoulders.

JenniferEccles Thu 09-Jan-20 08:48:42

That’s ridiculous *suzied

NO royal was more loved by monarchists than Diana.

Look at the extraordinary outpourings of grief when she died.

My impression is that most people were prepared to give Meghan a chance but it quite quickly became apparent that this was a manipulative woman used to getting her own way, and look at how callously she has cut her father out of her life.

I don’t entirely blame her for this latest development though.
Harry must be in agreement, but the announcement was very badly handled.

I expect we will learn more today.

Sparklefizz Thu 09-Jan-20 08:47:45

Thank goodness Harry is not the older son. The grace of William and Kate and their lovely family is a blessing, but I feel sorry for William in the future because whereas when Charles becomes King he will have Anne and Edward (not Andrew!) to help carry the burden, and indeed has done whilst waiting to be King, William will have no one.

I think Harry and Meghan have made a selfish and self-centred decision, and have handled it appallingly and disrespectfully. Thank goodness the Queen is a resilient and strong person but at her age and with all that she is coping with at the moment, they could not have picked more thoughtless timing. Would it have hurt them to wait another 6 months until perhaps Philip was better?

notanan2 Thu 09-Jan-20 08:43:36

The problem is, he is his mother's son! So he wont want to slip away and live a quiet life forgotten by the public.

They want us to adore them and listen when they think they have something profound to say, but then they switch to hating us if we do take an interest. The faux public cries for privacy: thats not how you go about obtaining privacy, if thats what you really want.

It STINKS of Diana
