Harry & Meghan stepping back from RF

At last two less meaningless royals to pay for, now get rid of everybody else that’s not going to take the throne, and let them all pay for their own security if they want it, and maybe we can use the money for things we actually need like the NHS

Good luck to them. The media have really had it in for Meghan from the minute she set foot in this country. I hope they will be very happy wherever they decide to settle. Ive always liked William and Harry.

I think it is for the best but is it really what Harry wants, and needs? I think he is vulnerable, spoilt and impulsive. Meghan seems to have alienated and lost most of her family and has few true friends. She seems now to be working on distancing Harry from his family and his friends too. He , at the moment appears to be besotted with her and bitter with the press and is playing into Meghan hands.It could all end really badly. Several people have referred to her as a young woman and a girl, she is nearly 40 and very worldly wise.

A statement has been issued by Prince Harry and his wife detailing their plans for their future, without consultation or prior knowledge of the Palace. This will be be undergoing intense scrutiny now, and I doubt very much if this couple will have quite the control over their lives and lavish income they envisage. The Queen, and Prince Charles, can be extremely tough when the future of the Family is at stake, and Meghan does not have the following that Diana had.

I think Tickingbird's comment is very balanced and sums it up well. However without wanting to add to the vitriol being heaped in them, I do agree that if they don't want to be part of the 'firm', then they should be 'finance neutral', cost the taxpayer nothing, and reimburse the cost of the refurbishmental of Frogmore.

That's a bit over the top! I haven't read all the comments and I haven't posted anything nasty myself, but I think people are very angry about the extravagance and attitude of these two, who have been given everything they could possibly want or need only to disrespect the Queen in such an appalling way. And it's clear that Meghan is seen to be the driving force in all this.

I can imagine why they chose not to consult the rest of RF - they would all have been down on them like a ton of bricks trying to persuade them to soldier on.

Whereas everyone is entitled to their own privacy this decision may come back to haunt them I think they should give up all claims associated with being part of RF based on their decision to step away. However rumours circulate that the Canadians don't want them Trump after his frosty encounter with Boris over Iran may say USA don't want them either may be a case of humble pie from the couple I wish them well as with any new family but I think this issue is far from settled and may have more twists and turns eminent

I must admit I never liked the woman & I rather doubted she would be able to handle not being a top dog in RF as she is obviously used to being admired & feted by those who watch the TV series she is in (never seen it myself)
I think not telling HRH first in unforgiveable- if he was my Grandson I'd me furious.
I suspect he is well under the thumb of an older strong minded woman & I doubt very much it will last that long & he will be back within 2 years.
I've always felt sorry for him - so much pressure & sadness when he was so young but he has made a big mistake here.
I wish him well though.

It seems as though Meghan is very skilled at isolating first herself and now Harry from their families. A lot of people had doubts about this relationship from the start and it seems to have been justified.

Shame Prince Philip isn't available to give them a hard lecture.

I caught they were going to split their time between UK and north America. Will that be USA where they have previously said they would be hounded or Canada. Harry will need to apply for visas for both will he not? Will look forward to him justifying why he wants to remain for six months in the USA! He'll have to pop over the border to Mexico for a week every no and then for a re-entry. Wonder how they are doibg to work towards being financially independent. Meghan will need to go back to work! Will Harry be able to continue with all his work with the UK Forces. He does seem to do well in that area. Both will I imagine continue with titles as their statement said they would continue to support the Queen. Good Luck to them both.

Maybe there’s a deal been done. They’re being rented out to Canada. What will they do and who’s paying for it? They’d need security. Is harry going to work in Starbucks Toronto? Will Meghan be back on tv

I think if they want to go off grid that’s fine. It can’t be pleasant living in a goldfish bowl, privileged or not. I also think Meghan has been given a hard time although she has brought some of it on herself. Personally I found the black pastor at the wedding cringemaking and embarrassing.

I think Harry is terribly scarred by his mother’s death and still struggles to deal with the press intrusion. So, yes, I think he’s probably doing the right thing for himself and his family. However, I think Duke and Duchess of Sussex should be removed and he should just be Prince Harry and Meghan his wife.

I feel sorry for the Queen as, apparently, there was no conversation or consultation with her at all. I think it shows a certain amount of disrespect to her.

Only time will tell if Harry has made the right decision.

Has there been nastiness in the press ? Nothing can be done
about twitter etc, but the press has not been nasty.

Another thought, I am pretty unaware of the spite and nastiness which has been directed at Megan Markle, because I don’t read tabloid newspapers or spend much time on social media.

I find it difficult to believe that their lavish lifestyle did not sufficiently compensate for the trolls, tabloid press and the naysayers... Maybe they gave too much credence to the nastiness?

LBC's royal correspondent went way over the top this morning - royal watchers grouped outside Buck House were described as "stunned and horrified, many draped in the Union Flag" and "angry on behalf of Her Majesty."

Charles I would have loved to have had fruitcakes like these on his side during the Civil War......

They should stay in or get out, give up their titles, pay for

Buy an estate in Canada.

I've quit jobs that affected my health before, and wouldnt go back part time or ocassionally to do cover.

You only opt for part time instead of a clean break if you kinda like aspects of the role.

And when Ive hated a job Ive wanted to leave with zero fuss.

I wonder how many of us would want to continue doing a job......
But they DO want to continue doing it... sometimes... not so much that it gets boring... but enough to keep the attention they crave.

Since they are not going fully private, their claims that its just so awful and traumatic being them seem a bit hollow no?

My concern is the c£30 million personal fortune that Prince Harry has amassed. This is from the Duchy of Cornwall, bequeathed by his mother and given by the Queen.

This is public money, acquired from the lands and properties of the UK and the royal family sitting on a vast fortunes of inherited wealth. Will the £30million be given back to the county, to establish the proposed financial independence?

What about the £2 million+ spent on their Windsor home just last year, now to be empty for 6 months of the year?
Megan Markle’s wedding dress cost £390,000 according to Elle magazine. The total cost of their wedding, particularly the security, was reported as £32 million.

Do they repay all this as an indicator of their commitment to financial independence? It’s a farce.

They are a disrupting force to the Royal Family. For whatever reasons they are not going to fit in and it's for the best just to let them go, and let them go in peace.
