... and planning to be financially independent.

Wonder how many of us would tell our grandmother and father- I want out of this job you give me millions to do but I
still want the house that goes with the job and the money and the staff .

and decided their only way of surviving was to get out.

Except they're not! Wish they would!
You dont get to claim to be a concientious objector if you're still keeping a foot in!

My guess up is that Meghan will return to her acting career and Harry will take a back seat which may suit him. My sister-in-law lived on Vancouver Island for thirty years, it is a beautiful place to live but the the signal to me for them choosing Canada is that many films are made there and in Vancouver, films which are set in the USA are often made in British Columbia. I would guess that Meghan is already in negotiations which could be why she has returned to Canada so swiftly. The old saying is often true, “A son is a son until he takes a wife.”

I wonder how many of us have ben consulted by our children or grandchildren-never mind Great grandchildren before they made life changes?

I wonder how many of us ensure that there's a constant flow of millions into our DGS's bank account in return for very little?

I wonder how many of us have ben consulted by our children or grandchildren-never mind Great grandchildren before they made life changes? Not many I bet

We have a family business. If we employ the girls in the future! YES I would expect us to be consulted before they radically chsnged their job description!

Summerlove Fri 10-Jan-20 10:31:08

Trisher, that’s a very valid point re “normal” family

notanan2 Fri 10-Jan-20 10:31:01

What would Diana say about all this?

It would be battle of the attention seekers!
Di would have some upstaging announcement or hard hitting interview about how she feels about it, or a set up press oportunity for her doing her best shy & private face.

Di wasn't the most consistant as a parent. She announced her love for them regularly, but she was in and out of her own dramas. She wouldnt have been content to be the doting knitting granny beind the scenes.

W looks very uncomfortable when H talks about Di, he has made up a fantacy saint, I think W remembers a more up and down Di not the impossible picture of perfection painted by her sycophants

I wish them and their baby all the best and if they want to step back and not be senior totals then fine...but they can't have their cake and eat it. It comes across that they think they are bigger than the RF but they're not and should probably be careful what they wish for. I think it is very sad that they are pulling away from his family and the 2 brothers are not so close. I just hope he doesn't regret this in years to come

trisher Fri 10-Jan-20 10:28:38

I wonder how many of us have ben consulted by our children or grandchildren-never mind Great grandchildren before they made life changes? Not many I bet. Yet everyone's always saying how the RF are like any family. Personally I think they've looked at how things have gone- mother tragically killed, dad hounded until recently, Uncle A really not acceptable, Great Aunt M alcoholic, Cousins E and B spongers, and decided their only way of surviving was to get out.

If they had informed Queenie all hell would have been let loose to try and dissuade them - don't blame them for flying the nest and seeking happiness.

merlotgran Fri 10-Jan-20 10:26:13

This is the photo that says it all for me. hmm

notanan2 Fri 10-Jan-20 10:25:21

Not sure about out on every bar crawl though, in Afghanistan!

Every one going. He wasnt always in afghan. He never wanted to comprimise at all. He was out in squaddy towns a lot!

ladymuck Fri 10-Jan-20 10:23:04

Do immigration laws not apply to royals? We lesser mortals cannot just go and set up home in another country.
Are they going to apply for asylum?

lucywinter Fri 10-Jan-20 10:22:32

tickingbird I haven't "repeatedly" called anyone low! I just think to suggest she had Archie just for some kind of a "scheme" is pretty low, not to say ridiculous.

Granless Fri 10-Jan-20 10:20:59

Oops .... have said ....

Granless Fri 10-Jan-20 10:19:56

What would Diana say about all this?

Callistemon Fri 10-Jan-20 10:16:24

notanan yes, he would have preferred to stay in the Army but security was the problem.

Not sure about out on every bar crawl though, in Afghanistan!

Anniebach Fri 10-Jan-20 10:16:20

Not at the expense of others , perhaps some would though

Callistemon Fri 10-Jan-20 10:14:44

hmm

I think wanting the best of all worlds is also tempered with a sense of responsibility for most of us.

notanan2 Fri 10-Jan-20 10:14:21

Harry should have carried on his career in the army (and I’m a pacifist) He said himself it’s when he feels the happiest, although I’m not sure Meghan would like it.

How? He wanted to be front line with the lads
Out on every bar crawl
He made himself a massive security risk!
W managed to build useful skills without drawing attention to himself in the army. He could have continued, H they probably were glad to have gone he was a liability!

Summerlove Fri 10-Jan-20 10:12:27

It does sound as if they want the best of all worlds

Wouldn’t any of us?

tickingbird Fri 10-Jan-20 10:06:47

ladymuck I think that’s the crux of the matter here. Sympathy for them went out of the window when the public realised the egregious disrespect shown to the Queen.

ladymuck Fri 10-Jan-20 10:04:17

Not informing the queen of their plans was the height of discourtesy. Just shows how arrogant they both are.

tickingbird Fri 10-Jan-20 10:03:52

* Meghan has not returned to Canada on a whim or on the run. I assume that she will have planned & booked her flight (commercial flight of course) to get back to Archie.*

From what I’ve just read she returned on a private jet and Harry may have followed. Obviously I don’t know if this is true.

Ellianne Fri 10-Jan-20 10:03:00

Anniebach I think that when strong, opposing opinions are voiced on GN about politicians and celebrities we tend to rise to the bait and become embroiled in arguments. This case is different because we are (predominantly all) grandmothers/great grandmothers, we understand family dynamics and squabbles and we really only want what is best. In a sense we can detach ourselves from the politicians and their antics but a family being torn apart is more poignant.
