... and planning to be financially independent.
?

Harry has moved down the chain. Zara isnt the only minor royal living relatively privately. Its not uncharted teritory to live quite quietly as a non working minor Royal. H crashing out like this is IMO for the US audience: to imply he is doing something groundbreaking and unusual, when he is not! He could have been quietly getting on with it but then he wouldnt have had attention...

Patticake123 Thu 09-Jan-20 15:01:28

I wish them both all the luck in the world. The scummy British press have themselves to thank for this. The poor woman has been hounded like her husband’s mother was. Anyone who purchases that gutter press nonsense should be ashamed of themselves.

notanan2 Thu 09-Jan-20 15:04:30

What are the specific examples of the press "hounding" them?

They literally demanded that their "messages" be heard! And the press obliged, but also noticed their hypocricy. How is that "hounding"

notanan2 Thu 09-Jan-20 15:06:03

MM and her friends made big claims about the "spotlight" she would shine on feminist issues.

So the spotlight was on her... and we waited... and waited for her to deliver...

How is that being hounded?

To be a Royal is different from being a Celebrity. The Royal women are discreet, not self centred and efficient. It requires a complete different mindset to be a successful royal (Queen, Kate, Princess Anne, Sophie, Camilla). Meghan was never to be a success too self centred for the job. Harry is completely dominated and seems to have lost or forgotten his royal roots.
Want to be independent, fine... but don't expect royal privileges and titles. You have a huge inheritance, use it, your choice.

bluebirdwsm Thu 09-Jan-20 15:10:45

H and M have both shown themselves to be who I thought they were when the 2 personalities came together. Two hard done by, petulant, entitled, arrogant and self centred people impressed by glamour, fame and money, and shunning family. Both of whom love attention.

He is being led, she is manipulative and he lacks the insight to see it. Their behaviours in the last 2 years have been outstanding, so loaded their self pitying brashness. Let's not forget William also lost his mother, he also has to deal with the loss/ the events around it and yet has behaved with dignity, has a huge sense of responsibility and duty, a wonderful family and has my full respect.

I hope they go to Canada. Keep away from the UK, keep a low profile, court the Canadian press and eventually grow up. But I don't think it will happen. I don't hold out much hope for a marriage where both parties are estranged from their families. A shame they are also selfishly estranging Archie from his relatives/grandparents/aunts/uncles/cousins etc too. And no, race has absolutely nothing to do with my opinion whatsoever.

notanan2 Thu 09-Jan-20 15:19:10

H has even lashed out at media pieces that were SUPPORTIVE of MM.

He wants cameras on him when he thinks he has something profound to say, but expects zero press that isnt directly requested by him.

SirChenjin Thu 09-Jan-20 15:21:06

Wouldn’t it be funny if the Queen said your services are no longer required’, fired the pair of them and stripped them of their royal title?!

She won’t - she’s too diplomatic - but I bet Phil has suggestions for what she should do with the pair of them. I’d love to be on the RF groupchat, their phones must be beeping non stop at the moment grin

annep1 Thu 09-Jan-20 15:23:33

I agree with Mcem

^If some taxpayers' cash be be saved, that's a bonus.
In other words "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn!"^

Yehbutnobut Thu 09-Jan-20 15:26:32

OMG a 35-year old married man and father decided to change his job and move house and....he didn’t consult with granny.

Disgraceful

notanan2 Thu 09-Jan-20 15:28:21

I bet she wants to, but wont in the hope that if they are "on the books" at least part time, some damage control can be done.

H is an angry man. His lashing out is indescriminate and he seems to blend fact with paranoia. He went after a piece by the BBC which was very much in support of MM and criticising racism. He thinks any press that isnt ordered by him = what killed his mother. Ironically he is making all of her mistakes in the process

notanan2 Thu 09-Jan-20 15:30:18

OMG a 35-year old married man and father decided to change his job and move house and....he didn’t consult with granny.

35 year old grown man went on holiday and decided that on his return he is going part time, and will only be in for the fun bits of the job, but will be keeping his job. Tells (doesnt ask) boss via social media

There. Fixed it for you.

SirChenjin Thu 09-Jan-20 15:33:44

Notanan - you forgot: Boss paid for expensive renovations to house and funds other parts of a very lavish lifestyle. 35 year old intends to use boss’s connections and prestige to earn money elsewhere.

notanan2 Thu 09-Jan-20 15:35:27

Oh yes Chenjin. Will be keeping the live in accomodation he had use of as a full time employee to use as holiday home.

Anniebach Thu 09-Jan-20 15:36:47

35 year married man is keeping his house which went with the job ,

tidyskatemum Thu 09-Jan-20 15:40:22

The sooner they b@##*r off the better. They seem to be so self-absorbed eg failing to see the irony when, at the end of what had been a successful tour of South Africa, they whinged about how hard done by they were. And they obviously only thought about their own feelings in making this announcement. They evidently had not been idle during their 6 weeks of plotting, oops, privacy in Canada. Let them make their own way and good luck to them

Grandma70s Thu 09-Jan-20 15:41:02

I’ve never read the tabloid press, so I don’t know what’s been said about them. I have formed my own opinions from observation.

Lindsey Thu 09-Jan-20 15:41:51

Good on them. They can escape the evil media which instigates hatred...The Daily mail, Express etc. Get out of this bigoted, racist country and live a better life.

Dareyouto Thu 09-Jan-20 15:43:21

Personally I wouldn’t care if the whole lot disappeared overnight. It’s not as if I’ll ever meet them or move in their circles or dare to even speak to them direct if I did come across them. They’re not worth more than a quick glance at the best of times.

Oldwoman70 Thu 09-Jan-20 15:46:39

Is it being assumed they didn't speak with the Queen about this? Remember during the Queen's Christmas speech there were no photos of Harry, Meghan or Archie - perhaps that was the first indication that they were moving away from "the firm", alternatively of course, it could be taken as a snub to Harry and his family - you can choose whichever suits your opinion.

Mollygo Thu 09-Jan-20 15:46:57

I hope they achieve what they SAY they want. Harry’s life coping with mental health issues would certainly benefit from less public attention.
I’m only confused about how stepping out of the limelight correlates with making an announcement which will get even more attention. Notanan2 makes a good point about other royals achieving less attention more discretely.

Oopsminty Thu 09-Jan-20 15:50:37

I think that this just garners more interest

They have a website they've been working on and want to earn their own money

Will we see Meghan on Oprah or somesuch?

Or maybe becoming the new Oprah?

It's all well and good leaving and heading off for peace. And one I can understand

I just wonder what on earth they will actually DO

Anniebach Thu 09-Jan-20 15:51:13

During the queens Christmas speech the photographs were of
those in direct line to the throne, why would Harry’s. photograph be there

Greeneyedgirl Thu 09-Jan-20 15:56:31

Well Dareyouto many of the older generation don't share your opinion judging by the very many posts on here. Any morsel of gossip about the Royals always generates a disproportionate amount of interest.
I don't think the younger generation are anywhere near as interested, and I think that after the queen goes the RF will diminish in importance and size, and become say more like the Dutch RF.
Roll on the day I say, I think that the queen should have abdicated years ago.

Newatthis Thu 09-Jan-20 15:58:42

I agree with Summerlove - what exactly have they done to make people dislike them so much? It seems that they cannot do anything right.
