When I was 14 my Dad sat me behind the wheel of Mum's Morris Minor and taught me the basics, including double-declutching (as lizzypopbottle mentioned above, they weren't synchro meshed)
Then Mum got a mustard coloured mini, which was striking enough but it also had a nifty little racing steering wheel and the registration number was HOT, which we all thought was great! I passed my test in that one.

. Second was a death trap Mini which had belonged to the son of my friend - must have know about the problems but always just said it was OK when they had it.
