Learned on Toyota Corolla passed first time after 10 lessons! Ergo adored that car!

Own car a Fiat Panda - dead cheap and nearly rolled over on bends. Would not ever buy such a car again.

Favourite after that Ford Focus very speedy off the blocks, reliable efficient easy to drive, perfect car.

Currently need a car into which I can put my powered wheelchair (heavy object) so am looking into this.

Morris Minor Traveller. Identical to yours Woodmouse which was my mother’s car.

Eventually got my longed for red Citroen Dyane which I named Sardine due to the rolling back roof. Column gearstick, half fold down windows. My pride and joy.

My first car was a blue 1965 Hillman Minx when I was 19, and cost £65! It was brilliant, got me through my test and got stolen, never to be seen again. Towards the end of its time with me I had to tie string to the windscreen wipers and pull the string to clear the screen when it was raining! Hilarious! I was a poverty stricken student at that point, working to pay my way through teacher training college.

I learned in a Mini, and passed my test first time in 1975, but my first car of my own (lent to me ny my Dad), was an ancient Austin A40, supposed to be red but the bonnet so faded it had white (go-faster?) stripes on it. It didn't have wind-down windows and had to have the windows wedged shut with half a clothes peg. The wipers' speed used to vary according to how fast I was driving, and at any speed past 40 it felt like it was shaking itself to death! Went on a camping holiday in it with my sister, with a full-sized frame tent, cooking gear and fridge box in the back seat, piled high to the ceiling, as the car had very little boot space. Loved it as it gave me freedom and independence.

Mine was a Blue Honda automatic which was fine the only trouble was I passed my test in an automatic, got a new job and was provided with a manual car. I had to resit my test and passed easily. The examiner asked if he could ask me a question, I said yes. He said he shouldn't ask but wondered if I had lost my licence. I explained the situation and he seemed so relieved not to have upset me.

My first car was a Mini so was my second the first was pink and the second red! My husband now runs a classic car hire company and we are just about to put a Mini Cooper on the fleet - that'll bring back a few memories!

A burgundy ford fiesta.
I loved it.

Our first car was a big black Austin 10. We took friends to a pub on the moors for New Years eve and when we came out it was snowing heavily. DH (then boyfriend) turned windscreen wipers on and nothing happened. Nightmare, but hilarious, drive home across the moors with no visibility.
Ah, the good old days!

My first car l drove was a Ford Orion. The first car l remember my parents having was a Zephyr, the older version. They later had a Ford Anglia estate. When my aunt, uncle and their two children came to stay with us, we would all pile into the car, nine of us in total, for outings! My cousin and l as the two oldest children would sit behind the seats as a special privilege. This was the early seventies and was common practice in those days. We've all survived to tell the tale.

I learned in a Vauxhall Viva (old style) and my first car was a blue mini with chewing gum gears!

Caro57 Thu 02-Jan-20 11:27:34

Mini clubman in a mustard colour!

nipsmum Thu 02-Jan-20 11:25:55

The first car I drove was my dads Ford Consul. It had a column gear change 3 forward gears and coach style front seat. I passed my test in a mini after 6 driving lessons in 1963 aged 22.

First lesson was in a driving school’s Vauxhall Viva, which broke down. They bought new Vauxhall Chevettes (I think) shortly after so learnt in them. My own first car was an Austin Allegro (second hand) and I remember it being recalled to have the wheel nuts checked!

A Hillman Imp, oh I loved that car and called it Tinkerbelle!
Happy memories indeed.

Mollyplop Thu 02-Jan-20 11:20:44

Ford Sieera estate. I loved it and drove it for many years until it was sadly stolen and never found.

Elcie Thu 02-Jan-20 11:20:29

Mine was a mini clubman estate. In the winter, I had mould growing inside the sliding back windows . Happy days?

Mollyplop Thu 02-Jan-20 11:17:56

cornergran I've got a green A30 with the flip out trafficators. I love it!

Minerva Thu 02-Jan-20 11:13:38

A red mini in the 60s which we once filled with four adults, two over six foot, two tents and all the usual camping/cooking equipment and drove from where we were living in south Germany to Austria for a ‘wild camping’ holiday.
We later drove it home to Blighty and sadly sold it to raise money for a trip to the Far East. Those were the days.

A white Triumph Herald coupe, which had been rebuilt by a motor mechanic friend after being declared a write off. Paid £100 for it in 1971.

BakaSueSue Thu 02-Jan-20 11:10:26

An Austin A35 called Jemima!

crazyH Thu 02-Jan-20 11:10:24

Mini metro - not too ashamed to say, passed after 5 attempts and by then I was in my forties. Best thing I ever did ....the year after I passed, my husband left me and had to do everything by myself, school runs etc.

Summerstorm Thu 02-Jan-20 11:05:21

Can’t remember driving instructors car other than it was dark green. My first car was a bright red Hillman Imp

pen50 Thu 02-Jan-20 11:03:05

Mini Clubman in hideous Harvest Gold followed by a Ford Escort Mk III in a equally hideous honey colour.

Worst thing for me was that none of my early cars had seat height adjustment and so, as I have a very short back, I found it quite difficult to see out without a cushion to sit on. That's why I like 4x4s now; I sit higher within the cabin and can actually see the bonnet. Suspect I'm not alone in this....
