I had to laugh lady shopping in well known supermarket this morning in pjs slippers n dressing gown, oh how times have changed, I’ve seen a few now, not in full attire generally pjs and coat over, I’m not judging each to their own, at least was dressed,I did think of those of us that feel naked if we haven’t got our mascara on to open the door,

I must admit its not something we see much of here in north east Scotland. Maybe its too cold. I've seen the very odd student run to the corner shop in Pyjamas but never in any of the supermarkets.

What does it matter what they wear

Musicgirl Thu 02-Jan-20 11:21:11

I don't like being in night wear except in bed. Even when l am not well l get dressed. This is something medical staff encourage in hospital as psychologically you feel better, less of a patient and more like a normal human being. I wear slippers indoors, though, or soft indoor shoes for when l am teaching music, as l feel it is important to dress fairly smartly in my professional capacity.

Dress tactically- I like that.

I have never seen this - it doesn't happen where I live or perhaps I just don't get up early enough.

I see it all the time and think the lazy slovenly sods.
I think it looks low life.
Pride has gone out of the window.

I like some of my night wear so much I wish I could wear it in the day time. I wear knitted cotton night dresses bought in Lands End sale, with pyjama trousers bought anywhere. I feel so comfortable in them!
I have been out in my night wear to buy milk from the petrol station at night when I ran out. But I wore my long mac over them. Some of my nighties look like tee shirt dresses anyway. Well I think so.....
I wouldn't wear slippers outdoors. Too flimsy might get wet.

How long since 'slip dresses' were introduced? The first time I saw one of them on the street - pastel colour, lace round the top and hem - I thought the wearer had come out in her petticoat. Then puzzled about it as she seemed a bit young for that kind of petticoat.

Suzelizbeth. I love you!! Perfect attitude in my humble op.

Fuss about nothing in my opinion, doesn't bother me what people wear when shopping! I personally wouldn't go outdoors, other than to put the bin out when I forget, in my dressing gown but I often wear nightwear until late afternoon if I'm doing housework or just lazing around. And I often stay in bed until lunchtime reading or playing on my iPad - why not? I'm not harming anyone.

And, shock horror, I don't have a shower every day, there's no need as I don't have a manual job, don't get sweaty, wash my hands regularly and don't smell! Years ago no one bathed daily.

I'm more likely to look away if I see someone wearing swimwear when shopping as seen on holiday, fat and sweaty bodies do not appeal to me!

Is there any need to be so sanctimonious or self-righteous? Wearing pyjamas/leasure wear outdoors is not an indication of the downfall of society!

Summerlove
ie women dressing to please men hmm
Then their choice of men leaves much to be desired. As my late DH would say when asked if he liked what I was wearing 'I married what was in the parcel not the packaging'

vinasol Thu 02-Jan-20 12:14:13

I saw someone walking out of the local shop the other day with her jacket over her jammies and had her slippers on. The one thing I did think that it would take confidence to do that. I'd probably bump into all and sundry!

Aepgirl Thu 02-Jan-20 12:21:28

I think it’s lazy and slovenly, and shows a lack of respect for other shops. How long does it take to wipe a flannel over your face and put a sweater and jeans on before going out? Have some self-respect.

Madmaggie Thu 02-Jan-20 12:44:19

When i lived overseas I had a great friend and neighbour who drove her kiddies to school daily in her jamas, fluffy slippers, cotton wrap & curlers, dash home to shower & dress in her nurses uniform for work. Until the day her car broke down and refused to start, right outside the school gates! Being a machine savvy farmers daughter, she popped the hood & attempted to sort it out, but, although she laughed about it later, that was the day she stopped driving in her nightwear ?

Down here near the sea, you get signs up in supermarkets in the summer asking people to be fully dressed when shopping. The sight of men in only tiny shorts, flip flops and a naked top half is enough to put anyone off their lunch.

Menopauselbitch Thu 02-Jan-20 12:51:36

Lady muck
Pride and self esteem???? If I’m not going anywhere why would I dirty more clothes that I will have to wash and iron. I wouldn’t go out in my pj’s but sometimes when I’ve been ill I wish I could of.

TerriBull Thu 02-Jan-20 12:54:00

My son drove round to ours on Christmas morning in pjs, he lives 5 minutes away he did have a coat over the top I might add, it was just a quick in and out to pick something up. He did come round fully dressed on Boxing Day.

Craftycat Thu 02-Jan-20 12:56:05

Being one of those who will not open the door if not in full makeup I just cannot understand how anyone can go out in PJs. I saw a young woman in our local shopping centre a few weeks ago in her dressing gown & slippers- she was going into a tobacconist to get cigarettes. It's just pure laziness- the dressing gown wasn't even clean!!

icanhandthemback Thu 02-Jan-20 13:02:21

During the sales I was looking for a top with a specific style and colour. The only thing I could find was a beautiful pyjama top. I hummed and hawed for a while before putting it back on the hammer. It was good enough for wearing out but was a bit concerned that somebody might recognise it.
I often have to run up the road in my PJ's to go to my Mum's in an emergency, I might even take the boy to the train station in them if he's running late but I can't imagine going to the shops in them.
Much to my daughter's embarrassment, my Nan sometimes wears her PJ's out. She has got out of bed and dressed in them as if they are clothes because they are warm, comfortable and easy for her to manage. You'd have to know they were PJ's because they are more like lounging clothes but if she is happy, who am I to judge.

Nannyme Thu 02-Jan-20 13:33:54

The first time I encountered it was in a Hampton Inn in America and a family of 5 appeared in their pjs, except the wife who had a long see through nightie on, quite put me off my breakfast. Then in Bristol some girls on a hen weekend appeared the morning after at breakfast without even brushing their hair and had onesies on, I find it very sad that standards have slipped so much as to not really care what they look like.

gilld69 Thu 02-Jan-20 13:41:14

i hate it with a passion, i see them going to the school of a morning and just want to scream "get dressed", why is it seen as acceptable , i will even admit my own daughter does this and thinks its fine to jump in car and run them to the school door but its even happening at home time surely you have time to throw a pair of jeans on during the day

sweetcakes Thu 02-Jan-20 13:41:40

It's just all sorts of wrong!!

SandraF Thu 02-Jan-20 13:55:33

I stayed at a B&B in Penzance recently and the owner told me he often has young women come down to breakfast in skimpy night clothes _ they are quite dumbfounded when he has to explain to them that this is not acceptable in a hotel situation.

Esspee Thu 02-Jan-20 13:56:03

If my OH or I popped out to the shops wearing what we wear in bed I expect we would be arrested.?
