I understand 'woke' to mean up to the minute in being very demonstrative in showing how green and environmental or political correct you are.
In this case, not buying 'stuff' but giving experiences. However, quite often, as in this case, the environemental cost of getting to the experience and back etc exceeds that of giving stuff.
To be truly 'woke' the experience should have been an experience within walking distance. We get round this stuff/experience dichotomy by asking people to provide a list of things they would like to receive at Christmas a couple of months in advance. Sometimes where we know that person well, we will buy somewthing they haven't asked for. Which is how I received two books this year that I hadn't asked for because I did not know they existed but I am delighted to receive them and I am well through one at the moment. Since both are extensively illustrated and one is quite old, not something to download on Kindle.
All my presents this year were things I was delighted to receive, none will be disposed off, all will be used and this applied to everyone.
