Best and Worst Christmas presents this year

Catta, I always treat myself to presents At Christmas (and other times) make up and last week, HATS, which I love.

Widowed a few years ago, my best present was the presence of my son, who cooked a turkey and ham, put lights around my garden trellis and makes me laugh so much. We watched University Challenge with a joke machine from the joke shop making appropriate noises and a French film, I Love Paris.
As I looked at his profile, so like his father’s, tears of happiness came into my eyes at the great blessing he (and my daughter, working awa) are to me.

Tickets from DD to see Whoopi Goldberg in Sister Act 11 and a night in a Hotel. I added a second night :-) so full on Mum daughter weekend in London :-)

She got DH Tickets to see England v Pakistan in the summer at Cricket, he loves his live Cricket.

We never expected so much but she said we give her lots of support and help throughout the year and we were worth it.

The fact that she thinks we are worth spoiling is the best part of the gift.

Hard to say as most of my gifts are lovely and appreciated . A donation from my 3 children toward buying a 'new' car. Old one died. My grandson and partner , a knee lap tray with a photo of my great grandsons.
Most disappointing . A friend has bought me an Ammarylis each and I can keep them coming into bloom for years. Once had 5 in bloom. This year she bought me chocolates yet knows I am diabetic.

Loved my Smellies and my beautiful set of Yankee candles. Also I was taken to The P&J Arena to see Sports Personality Of the Year last weekend by my SIL and DD as part of my Christmas. It was spectacular. Lovely Christmas lunch too. I was and am truly spoiled by all my family and friends. Thanks to them all.

I’m forever the practical one of our family, so after my mobility scooter developed a fault and became unreliable, my close family gave me gift vouchers for a Disability care shop which l have used to order myself a new Scooter which is due to arrive early next week. I much prefare this to lots of small gifts, some of them rather unsuitable, as l cannot eat sweets and Chocolates due to suffering from Diabetes, but still l manage to receive some and accept gracefully rather than upset the person who has gifted them to me. My Grandchilden enjoy eating them anyway when they visit.

I also got a dashcam. From DD. But the car I use already has one fitted, so basically she's bought me a dashcam for the car (also mine) that she drives

Eldest DD gave me tickets for Ball and Boe, ecstatic for those, youngest gave me a Robin bird bath that I wanted plus Rick Stein's French cook book x Very happy ?

My daughters had looked at the Radio Times and seen how much sport is coming up on television, and decided the best present for me was some very smart Bluetooth headphones, so I can find something else to watch on my tablet, while still being around if needed.
My daughter bought her two teenage sons T shirts,
with photos of the other! One was proudly wearing his...the other refused.
Alexa is great...turns on lights, finds music, adjusts volume...but I did need some handy grandchildren to help set it up!

Our family held, for the second time, a 'Secret Santa'. I was originally a bit dubious but am now a convert.

A grandchild puts all the names of all the adults into a hat and draws out a pair of names, one at a time. The first name buys a gift for the second.

This has the advantage that each adult buys only one gift. We all feel we have too much unwanted 'stuff' and by casually letting (via the child who undertook the draw) what might be pleasantly received, we all have gifts we really want to receive.

We have a price cap so we all ask for roughly the same amount.

Children in the family are excluded from our Secret Santa and we buy them whatever is on their list.

My daughter buys us beer and cider from small local breweries where she lives and places she visits, which we enjoy tasting. Everyone else has been instructed that I only want chocolates, and fortunately they honour that wish.

I requested M and S vouchers, and that’s what I got.

I didn’t receive any gifts with Xmas wrapping paper, so am a bit disappointed really. It doesn’t seem like Xmas without unwrapping presents.

My own fault, I suppose.

Tedber, it is the various alloys in jewellery which causes the nasty itchy dermititis.

Try painting all the surfaces that would be in contact with your skin with clear nail varnish. This (well, it mostly works for me) tip has enabled me to wear costume jewellery otherwise destined for the bin, charity shop (or next year's presents for someone else!). Hope it works for you.

Worst present I won't name giver but not a member of my family a box of "fake" After Eight Mints.

i did not get anything no family or close friends and i know i am not alone christmas day is just another day

I treasure every thing I get as they were given with love and that is my motto all year long. From the beautiful pictures that my grandsons do for me to the expensive gifts from hubby, all with precious memories. X

My son bought me several boxes of tea and coffee capsules for my Tassimo.
One of my brothers gave me a cheap calendar - he gives one every year to all of the family members, usually showing things they are not interested in - this year, I got "Cute animals " and my son got "Classic Cars" -he isn't interested in them, but I suppose it makes a change from F1 that he also isn't interested in!
He also gave us a small bottle of Cava - neither I or my son drink or even like the stuff !

My funniest was a wooden sign from DH which has YES on one side and NO on the other. With most of his suggestions the answer is usually NO and also he never listens to a word I say. The NO will get a lot of use. Worst present was even more shiny earings as I have about 6 pairs already.

I was very lucky all my presents from DH and sister were lovely (more to come from DD"2) yet and they are usually very nice. DH spoilt me with some jewellery, a massive bottle of Chanel No5 and even a blouse from Jigsaw which was gorgeous. He has never bought me clothes before an he got it spot on!!

Urmston - I was given an Alexa for my birthday 8 months ago and love it. You can ask Alexa to play radio 4 or to find any piece of music you'd like to listen to whilst you're busy in the kitchen. My only worry was when I said (and not for the first time) that I wished someone in the US would get rid of Mr T. Mr iam was worried we'd find the CIA outside our house the next day. So far, so good.

Grannyactivistthat is the exact chocolate my BIL always brings over from Norway by the ton. One for each of us to compensate for our "poor" English chocolate!

Best....an 'experience ' day from daughter who lives overseas...she will be over in summer..with new baby which is due imminently..she will share my 'experience ' day..a day at Kew gardens with cream tea thrown in..and train travel from Manchester...
Also beautiful perfumes and many good bottles of red wine..
..and lots of fun with family yesterday..even bloody H managed a smile (unless it was just wind haha)

Best was a carved wooden drinks coaster from DD2 telling me how much I am loved- made me cry. Lots of lovely things also from friends and DD1 and SIL he bought me a lovely cardigan.

Worst was slippers from friend 2 sizes too big and not from well known store so can’t change them and. Box of biscuits I can’t eat. They will go in the staff room when I go back to work

Presents aside we had a lovely day yesterday with all our family it was great!
