Grans alone and lonely, including those who may not even post here , we will think about each other as we watch Carols at Kings this evening at 5PM on BBC 2 television, and greet each other in our kind thoughts .

Thankyou poohbear as as happened before, with the radio playing Christmas tunes while we were eating dinner, they played one of his very favourite songs that I had playing at his funeral. My GD said theres Ray wishing you merry Christmas Grandma. We had a hug together.

sending love and hugs to all that need it, tanith he sounds like a very lovely man, and it is ok to miss him, talk about him and have a cry.

? To all of you who were alone this Christmas.

This christmas has been the cathartic christmas. I had 5 hours with family and the rest on my own and I was dreading it but it has turned into a happy and peaceful time. My meals are not that different to everyday but I do have a couple of edible treats a day and a GnT a day.

I have been to the online sales in JL and have purchased far too much beautiful wool but so what. I bought and have already used an indoor exercise bike so have no bad feelings about sitting in a recliner, reading, watching tv, netflix, no noise from shouting children, please myself, whats not to like.

This is the year that I came to appreciate the peace and the quiet, lonely is a state of mind and although alone, I don`t feel lonely. I feel lucky

Bijou & PinkSweetPea - ditto. Last years Christmas & New Years Eve were the first I had without my son or daughter. I was ill, which didn't help the fact that I'd never felt so lonely. This Christmas I didn't feel so lonely, & even enjoyed the freedom of being able to eat what I want, when I want it. There are a few compensations. So only New Years Eve to get through now.

PinkSweetPea Wed 25-Dec-19 16:40:04

@Bijou I agree this is my 4th christmas on my own since my divorce and DS moved out. I always think I am on my own everyday so Xmas day is no different. I have cooked myself a turkey roast dinner, had a pudding and starter and can please myself what I want to do and watch on the TV.

I know some people can't stand to be on their own at Xmas I have 2 friends who have gone to someones house for the day who they hardly know and one told me she is dreading it. I know which I would prefer my own home and comforts.

I just want to send everyone but especially those who are lonely or sad my best wishes and to thank those who have helped me through dark times this year.

Sawsage2 Wed 25-Dec-19 16:28:28

Love carols from kings, but not when feeling sad, like today

tanith Wed 25-Dec-19 12:41:46

hulahoop Wed 25-Dec-19 12:37:32

I will raise a glass to everyone feeling alone today ?

Bijou Wed 25-Dec-19 12:33:32

After so many Christmases on my own I have got to enjoy it. Eat and drink what I like, do what I like and watch what TV I like.
Do feel sorry for those who feel sorry for themselves.

vinasol Wed 25-Dec-19 12:30:05

Wishing everyone here a peaceful Christmas. I will think of all of you on your own and raise a glass to you xxx

Tanith this is my mums second Christmas without my dad and she too is feeling worse. I think last year she blocked it out and now it is surfacing.

Lots of love and hugs to you and Christmas thoughts and wishes. Xxx

Had carols from kings on in background while preparing lunch. Had nearly two months of Christmas music at work...retail but carols from kings college is different. I am here alone on my narrow boat home....sun shining. Diner is prepared...just need to turn oven on. Had my usual brandy and orange while getting it ready. Christmas DVD on. Alone though...no presents to open...vouchers via email....hahaha. Wishing everyone a peaceful Christmas. We are together in thought I know...love and peace to you all xxx

me? my dh of 50 years this coming January, died Nov. 12th.
I am so very fortunate that I have Jesus with me... don`t mock anyone, wish you all a peaceful Christmas..

I am telling my mind, this Christmas morning, here in Swindon, England, that this is just another day,, designated by us humans,,, made too much of,, but good for the kids.

Peace on earth,, wish we could all have these good thoughts all the year round and not just one day of the year.

Reading these lovely posts shows that “life still goes on” after the devastating loss of a loved husband, although I just cannot see how right now.

My wonderful husband of 51 years, together nearly 53 is terminally ill, though very thankfully stable and relatively pain free at the moment, thanks to powerful meds.

I lie her in bed thinking, worrying this is likely to be our last one together and the thought is devastating. I am purposefully not making today any different to others so as not to emphasise my thoughts and we will have a nice quiet morning on our own, going to see family later on.

Sending love and kind wishes to everyone who will find today difficult or sad. Please remember the happy times when our loved ones enjoyed Christmas with us.

It is comforting to know there are kind people here who know how others feel. It is especially nice for me as I have so little support from family.

Wishing all you lovely Gransnetters a very peaceful and happy Christmas. My heart goes out to all with sad hearts of their own. Much love to those who have had a difficult time in the last 12 months and wish for better times for you in 2020.

I lost my beloved Sister just a few months ago. My heart is still breaking from the loss, I miss her so much.

Take care everyone.
