Right....

Find the paper - I know I had some left over from last year.....now, where did I put it?

Selotape? - got that - no problem

Scissors? - yes, here they are.

Labels? - where can they be?

Pen? - all set to go now.

1. Cut piece of paper - how to make it square? Ah, which present will fit this jagged triangle?

2. Wrap paper round present - oh paper a bit big - cut off the spare - I can use that on another present - no too small for anything.

3. Carefully enclose the present and get the selotape - ah - how to make the paper stay put while I fight with the selotape machine? I know put a heavy item on it - great - a book is just the ticket!

4. Pull a length of selotape - oh, it has stuck itself together - throw that one away - go to pull another - oh, the end has got lost. Remove selotape from dispenser and fight for the end - replace in dispenser - and draw off suitable amount.

5. Oh dear, I have jogged the book and the present needs re-wrapping - no problem - easy-peasy - ah.....what do I do with the bit of selotape I have drawn? I know - stick it to side of table while I re-wrap paper

6. Re-wrap and go to grasp the selotape which has curled up and stuck itself to the table. Hmmmmm......Book comes in again; new selotape drawn off - grasp book and tug it speedily off present, whilst trying to catch the paper down with my bit of rapidly curling selotape.

6. Ah - a bit messy but will have to do; now for the label. Oh - roll of labels has leapt unbidden into its cardboard and requires several minutes to be persuaded out again. No worries, I've got it now!

7. Stick label to present - brilliant! Oh, can't write label whilst it is stuck on as pressure of pen will spoil the gift beneath.

8. No problem; I will write a new one from the roll and stick it over the old one when I have written it. Oh - roll of labels has leapt unbidden into its cardboard and requires several minutes to be persuaded out again.

9. Success! - now, where did I put that pen.............?

10) Think to myself "am I sure I took the price sticker off"".

Thanks Luckygirl I can relate to your experiences!

grin
At least you found the paper.
I forgot I bought rolls of the stuff half price after Christmas last year and bought more.

At least I have enough for years unless I forget I have it and buy more!

Callistemon Sat 21-Dec-19 16:47:43

Oh yes, and 10)
I've done that this year too

vinasol Sat 21-Dec-19 16:47:46

I'm afraid I'm more of a gift bag person these days. It's as quick as I can shove the gifts in a bag with a bit of tissue paper. Does that make me lazy?

Callistemon Sat 21-Dec-19 16:48:38

No, good idea

Except that I have all this paper to use up

Cloth gift bags (or a piece of red or green tissue paper and a kraft paper bag)
I plan to spend the next 10 months making cloth gift bags! tchgrin

A craft shop round here offers gift wrapping tuition - I thought about going!

KatyK Sat 21-Dec-19 17:13:03

Oh yes what a pain it is. I'm glad it's not just me. I know it isn't because last year when I opened a present from a friend, she had wrapped her scissors up with my gift. I bet she searched high and low for those.tchgrin

KatyK - hysterical!!! grin

Love it Luckygirl

In our house though, present wrapping always begins with ‘find the present that you hid in a very safe place when you bought it way back in November’

GrandmaMoira Sat 21-Dec-19 17:36:17

Lucky - this is so true. I hate wrapping presents. When my DH was alive he did it. It's one of the worst tasks I've had to take over. It will be all gift bags this year, so much easier. Now the DGC are teens they won't mind.

I used to love wrapping christmas gifts! Can remember the year, tho, when I bought some plain brown boxes - ideal for packing lots of Little Things?Jazzed up with seasonal tape, etc. Perfect! How clever was I!
But that was the year we found a kitten abandoned in the roadside and brought him home. A very adventurous kitten...
I think the story writes itself from this point....

I hate wrapping presents esp the weird shaped ones, I will get one side done and then think. Where did that ribbon .bow. Go. I’m sure I put the cellotape there, I just like putting them in gift bags n writing the labels,

Calendargirl Sat 21-Dec-19 17:58:26

Probably easier to put money in envelopes!

Smileless2012 Sat 21-Dec-19 17:59:08

11) Trying to find end of the sellotape because the last person to use it; Mr. S. in my case, didn't secure the end(tchangry).

kittylester Sat 21-Dec-19 18:12:31

We have one of those office type sellotape cutter things - unless the grandchildren get to it first.

MiniMoon Sat 21-Dec-19 19:43:25

Fortunately for me, Mr MM enjoys wrapping the gifts. The only thing I've had to do for years is write the tags. His writing is appalling.

JackyB Sat 21-Dec-19 19:51:15

I cut off lots of little bits of Sellotape and stick them on the (glass) lampshade over the table. Then I have them handy for sticking down the paper as I work.

Of course sometimes I don't use them all up, which causes puzzlement and is a conversation piece when all are gathered round for Christmas lunch and someone looks up and notices the "spares".

Purpledaffodil Sat 21-Dec-19 19:57:00

Urged on by all the warnings about nonrecyclable wrapping paper, I bought 3 large rolls of brown paper and matching dreary labels. Then I found the stash of pretty paper I bought in the sales after Christmas last year. Is it green to use serviceable brown and junk colourful stuff? Modern dilemma! ?

JackyB Sat 21-Dec-19 20:19:04

Just throwing it away unused is surely more detrimental than using it first. Perhaps you could wrap everything in the brown paper with a strip of the colourful wrapping paper for decoration, to brighten it up and make it more festive.

And then bring two cats who want to know what you're doing every minute of the day into the picture......
